Michelin-starred Aoyama Umi no Mi recently opened a branch in Yaesu, and I was excited to visit on a holiday night. Upon arriving at Tokyo Station, I was surprised by a sudden rain shower. I knew the restaurant was straight ahead from the Yaesu Central Exit on the map, so I decided to take the underground route. When I arrived, I was amazed to find that the exit for Yae-chika was right in front of the restaurant! The accessibility was incredible! I descended a narrow staircase or took the elevator at the back. As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by the counter. The golden folding screen was dazzling. There were two private rooms in the back. I sat on luxurious chairs and the course began! First, I had a draft beer, and I was thrilled to see they had a premium selection! The first dish was followed by the highlight of the meal - Caviar! Opening the box was exciting, and as a fan of small items, I was charmed by the tiny spoons for the caviar. It was a luxurious experience to enjoy it generously spread on top, with a mild saltiness and a rich flavor. The sushi course started with impeccable knife skills, and I was impressed by the aged quality of the Kinmedai. Each piece of sushi was expertly sliced, and the texture in the mouth was amazing. The pace of the meal was perfect. The seasonal vegetables were delicious, and the attention to detail in sourcing the fish was evident. The thick and succulent Tairagai had an incredible sweetness that lingered. The variety of fish included many from Kyushu, and I appreciated their journey to Tokyo. The shari was slightly acidic, which balanced well with the rich toppings. The rice was firm and my favorite type. Lastly, the fluffy Anago was the most tender I've ever had! It was a fantastic course. The bold flavors of the dishes made the sake flow easily, which was great for a sake lover like me. I regret not trying the Craft Tea that they offer in bottles. The attention to detail in the meal was exceptional, and the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. It was a delightful experience. Here is what I had: [Appetizers] - Live Squid with Ponzu Sauce - Caviar [Sashimi] - Bonito (Wakayama) [Sushi] - White Squid with Salted Vinegar and Yuzu (Fukuoka) - Horse Mackerel (Oita) - Cuttlefish (Nagasaki) [Warm Dish] - Steamed Sea Bream [Sushi] - Mackerel (Miyazaki) - Black Grouper with Kelp (Chiba) - Bluefin Tuna (Okinawa) [Rice Bowl] - Salmon Roe (Hokkaido) [Side Dish] - Grilled Eggplant, Chopped Okra, Tomato [Sushi] - Fatty Tuna - Purple Sea Urchin - Spiny Lobster (Amami Oshima) - Edamame Chawanmushi - Conger Eel (Tsushima) - Fresh Seaweed with Deep Sea Soup - Toro Maki Sushi - Watermelon ===========
Thank you for the delicious meal! Before the aftertaste faded, I strolled through the underground mall and quickly returned to Tokyo Station. To put it mildly, it was amazing. Having a meal at Tokyo Station is convenient for everyone, and the accessibility makes it easy to bring guests from afar. The sister restaurant of Michelin-starred Umi no Mi had a great sense of hospitality, without being too intimidating, and it was a comfortable experience.
