Now, onto the second stop. Catching the eye of a sake-loving friend, we made a reservation a few days ago and visited Torara. Sitting at the counter, I felt like having a beer as a chaser (lol), so I ordered a small Otaru Beer Pilsner for 650 yen (I think) and cheers with two glasses. The otoshi (appetizer) was oden with yuzu pepper, and we ordered an assorted skewer set of 8 pieces for around 1360 yen. You can choose from 3 types of sauces (sauce, salt, ponzu) for the skewers. The skewers were served in a timely manner, starting with onion: small but dense, quail (sorry, Chappytsum, this might not be for you lol): how do they coat quail, enoki mushroom wrapped in pork: hmm, no photo of this one (^^;), marinated tuna: they recommended eating this without anything, and it had a tuna-like texture, tofu: the mild tofu was enhanced by the seaweed sprinkled on top, cherry tomato: of course, "be careful, it's hot" lol, coarsely ground wiener: with ketchup and mustard, a mini hot dog, shrimp wrapped in shiso: firm shrimp with the flavor of shiso spreading in the mouth. The sake is great because you can choose the amount: glass (150ml), half (80ml), or tasting (45ml). We decided to share and ordered four types: Hakurakusei, Romon, Nanakanba, and Niseko. They all had a modern, smooth taste with a sharp umami flavor. The thin coating on the skewers made it feel guilt-free to eat fried food, so I think even women might end up ordering too many skewers. The combination of sake and fried skewers is a winner. Thank you for the feast~
