I called around 6:30 on a regular Monday and asked if I could come now. They said it was fine, so I visited the restaurant. I had researched this place because I was reading the manga "Golden Kamuy." The inside of the restaurant was bright and clean. The staff were energetic and cheerful, which was nice. I sat at the counter, which had a partition that could be used as a private room. The actual private rooms have decorations like Ainu huts, but at the counter, there were wooden bear carvings and other decorations. The food included bear meat and Ainu soup, which was interesting because they appeared in "Golden Kamuy." The taste was good, and there was no gamey flavor in the meat. I would like to visit again.

This is a restaurant in Susukino that serves Ainu cuisine. While there are occasional Ainu cuisine restaurants, this one offers authentic Ainu dishes rather than creative interpretations. Visitors can experience Chitapu and enjoy dishes like bear and deer meat, which are not commonly eaten locally, making it interesting for both tourists and locals. The private rooms provide a relaxing atmosphere, and they offer a variety of Ainu-inspired drinks like Tonoto and local Hokkaido sake, which were delicious. The dishes are made with natural flavors, making them seem healthy as well.

Ainu cuisine restaurant "Umikara no Haru"
I visited this restaurant after a two-year hiatus due to the previous closure caused by the pandemic. I originally found out about this place through a gourmet show featuring a predecessor of this restaurant in a back alley. This restaurant is a sister store of the Michi-no-Eki at Bihoro Pass.
They offer a platter with bear, deer, and duck meat (bear meat for an additional ¥800). Each type of meat has its own unique flavor, which is quite interesting. They also serve soup with rabbit dumplings (an additional ¥800), which reminded me of the kiritanpo from Akita. There was also rabbit meat and mochi among other Ainu dishes.
The ruibe (raw salmon) is a speciality, served with soy sauce. The soy sauce is light in flavor, but it leaves a nice aftertaste. Personally, I didn't quite enjoy the ruibe, but for fans of Golden Kamuy, this place is a must-visit as you can try rare Ainu cuisine. I hope to experience Chitatap (Ainu traditional dance) here someday.

Located in the basement of a building along Tsukisamu Street in the Susukino area, this izakaya offers Ainu cuisine. I heard about this place from a colleague at work, so we decided to visit. The interior has a calm and traditional Japanese atmosphere, with counter seats and private rooms, one of which is designed like an Ainu house called "Chise." The menu offers a variety of game dishes and Ainu creative dishes that you wouldn't find in typical izakayas, making it a unique experience for visitors from outside the region. We opted for the 120-minute all-you-can-drink course for 1,500 yen and ordered dishes to share, including the Ainu creative dish set (3,500 yen), bear and duck meat (1,280 yen), Kitaaakari potato fries (580 yen), and wasabi leaf soy sauce pickles (480 yen). The Ainu creative dish set includes deer and duck meat, Ohau, Chiporoshito, Chitap, and grilled salted salmon, making it a must-try menu at this restaurant. I've had bear meat skewers in the past, which were tough and had a strong smell that I didn't enjoy. However, the bear meat here was tender and didn't have a strong smell, making it very delicious (possibly due to low-temperature cooking). While the prices are a bit high, the opportunity to enjoy Ainu traditional cuisine makes it a recommended spot for fans of Golden Kamuy and those looking to try something different.

I finally got to try Ainu cuisine at this restaurant that I've always wanted to visit! It was really great. It's definitely a good place to take friends who are visiting for sightseeing. The rooms designed like Ainu chise (traditional houses) really boost your excitement. If I can make a reservation here, I would definitely choose this room!

I was so impressed by Gocam! It was my first time in Hokkaido, and I definitely wanted to try Ainu cuisine. I found this place while searching for a restaurant. I never thought I could actually eat dishes like Chitatap, Ohau, and Ruibe that I had seen in manga. I also love game meat, so I had seconds of deer and bear. The konbu with a child was thick and incredibly delicious, so I ended up having seconds of that too. It was a great experience!

Located in Susukino, Sapporo, Hokkaido, "Umi Zora no Haru" is a private room izakaya where you can enjoy Ainu traditional cuisine. It opened on May 18, 2017. The "Ainu Creative Cuisine Set" costs 3,500 yen (3,000 yen on Hot Pepper) and includes venison, duck meat (cooked at low temperature), Ohau, Chitap, Chiporoshito, grilled salmon, and a cup of Kamuitonoto. The atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic, and the food was delicious, creating wonderful memories. Thank you for the feast! Detailed review can be found here: [Link to the review].

I ordered Ainu cuisine and Rui-be, and split the bill which came to about 6200 yen. We tried bear, deer, rabbit, and duck meat, and the rabbit had the most gamey flavor, not unpleasant but very savory. The bear had a slight gamey smell but tasted surprisingly refined, unlike its appearance. The deer was similar to lean beef. The course also included a sake made using a similar method to that of the Ainu people, served in a small cup. The cooking was careful, ensuring that the meats were well-cooked, and the Rui-be was served in a solid frozen state. The prices were a bit high, possibly due to the location in Susukino, the rarity of Ainu cuisine, or the use of game meat, but it was worth it for the experience. The restaurant had Ainu-style box seats, resembling a traditional Ainu house, which we couldn't reserve but got a quick look at. The room was well-designed, reminiscent of a real Ainu house with a central hearth replaced by a table. Even though we didn't book this room, the staff kindly allowed us to take a commemorative photo, which was a nice touch.

This restaurant serves Ainu cuisine and it is relatively new and clean. It is a great place to take Golden Kamuy fans. Trying bear sashimi is a rare experience as it is not often available. It may have a bit of a smell, but curiosity outweighs it. Let's all enjoy the food together and say "Chitapu". If you are not up for trying bear, you might enjoy eating Ezo deer instead. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is also nice with an Ainu style.

The trip was almost unplanned, but I had made a reservation at a restaurant I found in a hurry. After returning to the hotel to rest, I moved at a leisurely pace. I pretended not to know about Golden Kamuy. The bear meat I had after a long time was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of the sweet sake. I had seasonal fish sashimi with special dashi (sea salt soy sauce), a glass of Piypa sweet sake, Ainu creative cuisine set (with a glass of Kamuito), bear and duck sashimi (pre-cooked at low temperature), deer skewers, Ohau (cod and bear), miso instead of Osoma for flavoring, and grilled salted salmon.

In Hokkaido, there is a unique izakaya serving traditional Ainu cuisine. It has recently relocated, just one block south of its previous location, now on the basement floor. The building is easy to spot with an egg-shaped object along the national highway. The interior has changed, with separate private rooms as you enter. The seating capacity has decreased slightly, with the counter feeling like a private room. Antique-like items decorate the space. The special private room "Haru no Chise," designed like an Ainu house, offers a great atmosphere (reservation required). The menu includes Chitatafu (similar to Tataki or Namero), today's Ohau (soup, with vegetables left uncut), Ruibe (semi-frozen sashimi of salmon, etc.), Chiporoshito (potato dumplings with salmon roe), and grilled fish such as King Salmon, Hokke, and Shishamo. There are other seasonal options as well. For drinks, there are 12 sake breweries to choose from, with tasting sets available. Whiskey from Nikka, wines from Tokachi, Furano, and Otaru, craft beers from Sapporo and Onuma, unique shochu like potato and perilla, and Ainu traditional sake "Kamuito no To" (made with sacred grass) are also on offer. With the recent opening of Upopoy (Ainu Cultural Center), it's a great opportunity to experience Ainu culture. Highly recommended for a visit. (No squirrel Chitatafu on the menu.)

This was a series of dishes that appeared in Kinkam, or Ainu cuisine. Recommended for fans of Kinkam.

It was 5000 yen with all-you-can-drink. The food with Hokkaido ingredients was deliciously incorporated.

In my previous review, I had the location of the store wrong, but it is actually located in the basement of a building with an egg-like object along Route 5 at South 4th Street West 5th Street. This time, I tried the new specialty, Zangi platter with 3 types (choose from chicken, lamb, salmon, octopus, and sweet potato) and switched to beer halfway through because fried food goes well with beer. Next time I visit, I might try the sudachi somen noodles as a finisher.
