I found today's lunch destination by walking along Ome Kaido from Nishi-Shinjuku Station and turning into a side street - it's called Charcoal Grilled Specialty Restaurant Shiroginya. Despite many restaurants likely to see a drop in scores in the 2021 edition of the Top 100 Set Meals, this place has maintained a high score of 3.62 as of September 2022, so I'm sure it will be included again next time. I may have a severe case of Tabelog addiction, but once I start thinking about it, I can't stop laughing. I had imagined it to be spacious, but the interior is a bit cramped with a cluttered izakaya-like atmosphere. The place is always crowded with salarymen coming in one after another, so it feels cramped. The restaurant's specialty is charcoal-grilled dishes, and I tried the most popular one, the "Grilled Fatty Salt Mackerel Set Meal" (850 yen). It arrived in about 10 minutes. The mackerel grilled over charcoal has an exquisite taste of fat that goes well with the rice, making it disappear quickly. When you dip it in grated daikon radish and the special ponzu sauce, it becomes even more irresistible, and the rice disappears in no time. The bones are also well processed, so they don't get in the way of enjoying the rice. The price is also reasonable at 850 yen, considering it's in Shinjuku. This is truly a deserving lunch spot for the Top 100 Set Meals. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After finishing work in Shinjuku on this day, I decided to have a quick solo drink at this shop. I had visited a shop in Kanda before and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was, so I was curious to see what this shop, selected as one of the top 100 set meal shops, had to offer. While they serve set meals during the day, they switch to a proper izakaya style at night. - Beef tendon yukhoe (tax included 380 yen) - Assorted grilled fish skewers (tax included 930 yen) - Grilled saury - Simmered Atka mackerel - Salmon belly - Salted mackerel - Mackerel marinated in sweet sake - Oyama chicken flavored sashimi steak (tax included 780 yen) - Eel skewer (tax included 350 yen) The famous grilled fish skewers I had in Kanda were still amazing! The crispy skin and well-sealed fish meat were superb, and the fact that you can enjoy this quality at this price is really great value. The Oyama chicken was also popular, and it was a generous portion of rare seared chicken sashimi steak. It went perfectly with wasabi and yuzu pepper, truly delicious! The beef tendon yukhoe and eel skewer were also delicious, so I'm sure all the other dishes are equally outstanding. The beer was 550 yen, and the lemon sour was 400 yen, with alcohol prices being reasonable and appreciated. Even though the basic order for skewers is 2 pieces, they allowed me to order just 1 piece since I was dining alone, which I was grateful for.

On my day off, I dropped by for lunch. The style is to order and pay at the entrance. The interior is small, but there is also a counter, making it a nice spot for dining alone. It can get quite lively in the evenings due to the small space and echoing voices. The set meals are around 1000 yen, which is a great deal in Tokyo. The grilled fish has a delicious aroma, as mentioned by others, and each dish is tasty. The grated daikon radish has a rich flavor, and I noticed a sign mentioning their own farm. The miso soup with okra also has a flavorful broth. The white rice is delicious, and it paired perfectly with the homemade furikake on the table. Looking at the menu on the wall, I noticed they offer fish skewers, which is rare, and if the non-fish dishes are as good as the fish, they must be delicious too. I would like to come back for dinner next time.

I visited around 12:45 on a regular day. I didn't have to wait and was seated at a shared table. I ordered the grilled mackerel with salt set meal for 900 yen. I paid in advance and received a numbered ticket before taking my seat. The mackerel was well prepared, with hardly any bones, making it easy to eat and delicious. It was truly impressive. I thought I could have gone for a large serving of rice this time. If I have the chance, I would like to try something else next time. Thank you for the meal!

I also went to a famous restaurant!! I visited Shiroginya. The quality is just as good as the main store, and you can eat for less than 1,000 yen. The taste is really precious at this place. It's recommended to go a little later during lunchtime because there will always be a line in the middle of the day. I always order the fatty horse mackerel set meal. Thank you for the meal today too.

The grilled fish skewers were delicious. However, the ikura bowl was very different from the menu photo and had a disappointing amount of ikura. What was more disappointing was that even though we were still using the restaurant until closing time, they started clearing our dishes before we were finished, even though we still had food left on them. They also asked if they could clear the dishes while we still had drinks left, which was confusing. Despite the good taste, the impression left was of a restaurant that was wasteful and disappointing.

Shinjuku-based izakaya and teishoku restaurant. It has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. We used it for a company drinking party. The teishoku set is famous, but this time we made a reservation for a course with all-you-can-drink option in advance. It was easy to reserve through Tabelog. We reserved for 7 people, but the table seats at the back of the restaurant are quite narrow, so I think it's better for up to 6 people. We had to create a birthday seat and when someone at the back needed to go to the restroom, everyone had to stand up... The food and drinks were served at a good pace. The tuna sashimi didn't look very appealing, but the grilled fish dishes were delicious. The dishes we had that day were: boiled edamame, enagawa yukke, shrimp and shirasu salad, fresh tuna sashimi, assorted grilled fish skewers (mackerel and salmon belly), premium dried fish (saury), daily grilled snack (large shrimp skewer), flavorful chicken sashimi steak, and dried fish rice ball.

I stopped by "Shiroginya" while on a business trip to Nishi-Shinjuku. I was lucky to have no wait for a solo lunch at 1 pm (^-^)v The weather was humid with rain on and off...it feels like a subtropical climate already, doesn't it? The fatty mackerel, fatty horse mackerel, and salmon belly all looked tempting, but I decided to go with the recommended dish. Golden mirin-dried silver cod set meal 1100 yen The sizzling sound and smell of charcoal grilling make me excited (≧∀≦) The silver cod grilled over charcoal is incredibly delicious. The skin is crispy and the flesh is tender and juicy, even the area around the bones is tasty. I ate everything except for the large bones... The homemade Yukari sprinkle goes well with the rice. I enjoyed it with a special soy ponzu sauce flavored with grated daikon radish. The simmered hijiki and pickles were also good. The miso soup with okra was flavorful with a rich broth. This restaurant specializes in charcoal-grilled dishes such as fish and meat cooked over charcoal. This time, I went for lunch, and the payment is made in advance. I believe electronic money is accepted as well. Now, here is what I ordered this time: - Ooyama chicken aromatic sashimi steak set meal for 980 yen. The highlight of this restaurant is their chicken sashimi set meal! They cook the whole piece and serve it for you to cut yourself! The inside is served raw, and it is simply amazing! You can enjoy it with ponzu or soy sauce on the table, along with yuzu pepper and wasabi if you like. It's so delicious that you could just eat this alone! The set meal also includes a small side dish (this time it was hijiki), pickles, and miso soup. You can get extra rice for an additional 50 yen! Located just a 1-minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station on the Marunouchi Line, "Shiraginya," a charcoal-grilled cuisine restaurant established in 2008 (Heisei 20), is operated by the company Humanex, which operates various restaurants mainly in Tokyo. This restaurant is a branch of the popular "Kogane-ya" that I visited recently, with several locations in Tokyo centering around the Shinjuku main store. I visited around 7 pm on a weekend and was seated at the counter without having to wait, which was a relief. I ordered the following items: - Grilled skewers: Fatty salted mackerel - Grilled skewers: Salmon belly - Chilled tomatoes - Fresh spicy cod roe - Grilled beef tendons Skewers are consistently delicious! The fatty salted mackerel is always a hit. The salmon belly is also delicious with its rich flavor. The grilled beef tendons are a must-try as well! The crunchy texture of the beef tendons combined with the seasoning makes for a tasty dish. The fact that they offer "Bye Sour" (a type of sour cocktail) is also a big plus for me personally! The appetizer of diced tuna was also delicious. I believe there are no misses when it comes to the grilled skewers here. This is the perfect place to enjoy good fish with your drinks. It's highly recommended for a quick drink.

As they specialize in charcoal grilling, I could really taste the skill in the cooking. The surface and skin were crispy, while the inside was juicy. Fish seemed to benefit more from the charcoal grilling than meat. The fish they used was of high quality, with a nice fat content and aroma. I also tried some Toro mackerel that my companion ordered, and it was delicious with its rich fat content. Upon entering the restaurant as soon as it opened on Saturday without a reservation, we were able to order a set of 5 assorted skewers (930 yen), 2 pieces of Akou sea bream (200 yen each), Oyama chicken sashimi steak (780 yen), 2 eel skewers (350 yen each), and 2 eel liver skewers (240 yen each). We also tried the seared white liver (580 yen). Keep in mind that skewers must be ordered in sets of 2. In total, including drinks, it cost around 7,000 yen for two people. While most izakayas serve whole grilled fish, this place offers a variety of fish in small portions, allowing you to enjoy a variety of flavors. The size of the dishes was just right. The salmon belly and Akou sea bream were particularly delicious. Although the main focus is on grilled fish skewers, the restaurant offers other delicious options like the Oyama chicken sashimi and the seared white liver, both of which were incredibly tasty. The Oyama chicken sashimi was tender and pink, with a great size and texture, making it a standout dish. The white liver was so rare and creamy, almost like eating liver sashimi. The freshness of all the dishes served was exceptional, surpassing the quality of typical yakitori restaurants. Overall, every dish was delicious.

On a regular day at 11:10, there were several people waiting outside the restaurant. At 11:18, the restaurant opened and customers ordered and paid at the counter before being given their change. A foreign customer next to me tried to place an additional order after paying, but was refused. The grilled salted mackerel set meal for 900 yen was delicious. The grilling was just right, the flesh was plump and juicy, and it had a generous amount of fat which enhanced the flavor. The saltiness was a bit strong, but when eaten with rice, it became the perfect side dish. The miso soup was made with red miso, but it wasn't too strong, which was good. It seems you can get a large serving of rice for an extra 50 yen, which I'll try next time because the regular serving wasn't enough. I also found out that there are several branch locations, so it might be worth trying those instead of the main store.

The quality of the fish is different, with a nice amount of fat. The white rice is also delicious. The miso soup is a bit lukewarm, but it has a rich flavor from the red miso.
