A restaurant located near Kifune Shrine, known for its specialty dish of ayu (sweetfish) tea rice. They also serve eel and soba noodles. I ordered chilled somen noodles with hot spring egg and raw wheat gluten, as well as an eel and egg rice bowl. The portion of rice in the eel and egg bowl was small. While the food wasn't exceptionally delicious, it stands out in this area where many restaurants cater to tourists with riverside dining options at higher prices.

I walked from Kurama-dera Temple to Kifune Shrine. I was sweating and my knees were weak, but I searched for a restaurant and everywhere by the river was full (it's good to see tourists coming back! I'm one of them). Luckily, there was one seat available at this restaurant. I had a hard time deciding on the menu, but I was interested in the summer vegetable cold noodles, so I followed my heart and ordered it. It was a great success! I did well. The noodles, vegetables, and cold broth were all delicious. And the prices were reasonable for this area. Thank you for the meal!

I walked from Kurama-dera to Kibune Shrine. By the time I arrived at the west gate of Kurama-dera on the Kibune Shrine side, I was exhausted. I had lunch at Torii Chaya. I was tired from walking. It was quite a tough mountain trail. I was relieved when I was shown to the second-floor tatami room. The specialty dish, Ayu Chazuke, is made by grilling ayu fish, then simmering it with rice and mountain vegetables for a day. It was light and delicious. I visited Kibune Shrine, which has been worshipped as a god protecting Kyoto's water source for a long time. The autumn leaves along the Kibune River were beautiful.

I descended from Kurama to Kibune on horseback and stopped for a break. I couldn't decide between Una-tama-don, but I ordered Ayu chazuke and cold sake. The Ayu was cooked with sansho pepper and had roe inside. I enjoyed eating it in two ways: first, eating it whole before pouring tea over it, and then after pouring tea over it. The seaweed and wasabi did a great job. The shiitake mushrooms cooked with sansho pepper that came as a side dish were delicious, so I bought some as a souvenir.

There are many delicious dishes available, but due to a hangover and overeating breakfast, I could only manage to eat soba for lunch. It was still very delicious, and other customers were enjoying different menu items energetically, but I didn't have the energy to take photos. I hope to visit next time with a good appetite and in good health. Please make sure to refer to other photos and reviews.

I arrived in Kibune all sweaty after crossing the mountain from Kuramadera, so I decided to take a break and entered a restaurant. Since it was still before lunchtime, I ordered Kibune soba. It was served with toppings on top of the cold noodles, and then poured with mountain vegetable sauce, which was a unique sight to see. When I dipped the soba into the sauce, it really hit the spot and warmed up my tired body. They didn't serve soba-yu (soba dipping broth) though. I wonder if they would have given it if I asked? There was another person next to me who was also sweaty, so maybe they also crossed the mountain like me, haha. Anyway, I enjoyed the delicious soba. Thank you for the meal.

Kibune is quite far away. It takes 30 minutes by train from Demachiyanagi, which is similar to going to Osaka from Gion Shijo. I had only seen it on TV before, so it was nice to experience it for the first time. The food was elegant and delicious.

This year, I missed out on eating eel on "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" so I decided to visit a restaurant on the day between "Ushinohi" and "Ninou" when the crowd is a bit calmer. Located right next to Kifune Shrine, this restaurant offers a dish called "kinshi don" which is eel topped with rolled omelette. I also decided to try their popular limited-time menu. I started with a small dish of simmered shiitake mushrooms and mountain pepper stems. Then I tried their popular summer vegetable tempura somen, which was refreshing and delicious. The main dish, eel and egg rice bowl, was small but tasty, with a fluffy rolled omelette and flavorful eel. The meal also came with liver sashimi, pickles, and other side dishes. Overall, dining in this charming restaurant was a great experience.

The other day during the long weekend, I went out with the master of a music bar and some regular customers to eat eel. They were all ordering eel and rice with eel sauce, but I decided to order a regular eel rice bowl. Since we were in Kyoto, the presentation was beautiful but the portion was a bit small. I wanted a more hearty eel rice bowl. It cost 2900 yen, which was a bit pricey. I slightly regretted not ordering a different menu item. The restaurant was located right next to the torii gate of Kurama Shrine, called Torii Chaya. They did have a parking lot, but it only fit about 5 cars, so there were some issues with customers fighting over parking spaces. I guess it's common during holidays in tourist spots. It's probably better to visit a regular eel restaurant on a weekday.

The other day, I went to Kurama to see the autumn leaves. I walked from Kurama Station to Kurama Temple, through the temple grounds to Kifune, and by the time I reached Kifune Shrine, it was already past noon. Feeling hungry, I looked for a place to eat around Kifune Shrine and discovered this Torii Chaya near the second torii of the shrine. I went inside immediately. Although I was hungry, I wanted something light, so I decided to order the Kifune soba. I could choose between hot or cold soba, and since I was feeling cold, I chose the hot soba. The bowl was smaller than I expected, but it was filled with plenty of soba, which was satisfying to eat. I tried dipping the soba in the grated yam provided, and it was quite delicious as well. It helped warm me up. I noticed they were selling Mitarashi dango outside the shop, so I asked if I could have some to eat inside, and they quickly brought it to me. It was a skewer of 5 pieces of freshly grilled Mitarashi dango, truly Kyoto-style. They were soft and very tasty. I later found out that the specialty of this shop is "ayu chazuke." I thought I might try that next time. However, the Kifune soba I had this time is recommended for those looking for a light meal at lunchtime. It's located right near Kifune Shrine and offers a variety of dishes from light snacks to hotpot dishes, so if you're unsure where to eat in Kifune, I think it's worth a try.

This is a review of a riverside restaurant in Kibune. In order to secure a seat at this restaurant, a kaiseki course meal costing at least 8,000 yen (excluding tax) is required for reservations. However, upon arrival, it was discovered that the restaurant also offers more affordable set meals for walk-in customers, and due to the impact of COVID-19, there was no need to wait in line and we were promptly seated. It should be noted that the seating for reservations and walk-ins are separate, with reserved seating being more spacious and located upstream. While I didn't have high expectations for the food, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was. The quality of the dishes exceeded what I would expect for this price range in the city. Although it is a bit pricey, I felt that the experience at the Kibune riverside restaurant was worth it and I would definitely want to visit at least once a year.

I don't know what got into me, but I decided to walk from Kurama-dera to Kibune instead of taking a bus or something. My feet are like jelly now... I just wanted to sit down more than eat, and besides, kaiseki cuisine is too expensive for me. So, without researching at all, I walked into a restaurant (sorry, staff). The specialty was ayu tea rice, so I ordered it without hesitation. It came with rice topped with cooked ayu, nori, wasabi, and sesame. Very simple. I poured tea over it and it was so refreshing and delicious! The ayu was cooked soft, even the bones, and the flavor of sansho pepper matched perfectly. It was easy to eat and my appetite, which had diminished due to exhaustion, was revived! But my legs were still trembling, so by the time I reached Kyoto city, I was completely exhausted. I'm never crossing mountains again!!!

Last year's article. Please note. A visit to Kibune Shrine. Before climbing the long stairs, I replenished my energy with some eel, which I rarely eat on a regular basis. My wallet loosened as I indulged in this luxurious meal! Eel topped with fluffy omelette - what a gorgeous combination! Cheers with a bottle of beer. Let's enjoy this dish with Matsumoto for a moment! The fluffy omelette sits on top of the eel and rice, creating a delicious three-layered dish. The gentle omelette, flavorful eel, and rice complement each other perfectly. It's so delicious! The idea of eating omelette with eel is truly divine. Kibune Shrine, you are the best! This collaboration is so tasty, I want to eat it every year. Kibune Shrine, you give me so much energy!

Many shops were closed, but Torii Chaya was open. I stopped by for lunch after visiting the shrine. I ordered the "tororo soba" with a smooth texture and cold sake. The rich flavor of the egg yolk and the mellow texture of the tororo harmonized perfectly, making it a delicious dish.

I took a break here when I visited Kifune Shrine for hatsumode. This shop is located along the beautiful river on the way from the parking lot to Kifune Shrine (*´ㅈ`*)♡ The scenery along the river is so beautiful that it makes you want to have a meal on the riverbed, haha. I was very relaxed and soothed by the great atmosphere. The seating is half table and half tatami mat. There is also a second floor. The exterior and interior are both old traditional houses with a warm and cozy feel. I immediately ordered the Kifune soba. The warm soba is simple and lightly flavored, perfect for lunch. You can adjust the taste with grated yam and condiments to your liking. Thank you for the meal. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

Today, I explored Kibune from Kurama. Kibune Shrine, with its beautiful red lanterns lined up, is a sight to behold. I paid my respects at the inner shrine. Speaking of Kibune, enjoying Kyoto kaiseki cuisine while cooling off by the riverside is popular. Some shops even offer nagashi somen. Riverside dining is available until the end of September, so after visiting the inner shrine, I planned to have a meal by the riverside. However, sudden heavy rain caused all the shops to close up. Disappointed, I gave up on the riverside dining and searched for a restaurant with indoor seating. - Torii Chaya Located next to the torii gate of Kibune Shrine, this restaurant offers Kibune soba and kaiseki cuisine. The interior had a luxurious feel. I decided to try their specialty, Ayu Chazuke. - Ayu Chazuke (top) This set menu includes chazuke, sashimi, small side dish, and pickles. - Small side dish A small dish of namemko and shiitake mushrooms simmered in soy sauce. A nice little appetizer. - Sashimi The sashimi consisted of fresh yuba (tofu skin) and carp. Despite the common perception of river fish having a strong odor, the carp sashimi was surprisingly sweet and delicious. The soft yuba had a delicate texture and was also tasty. - Ayu Chazuke The ayu, grilled once and then simmered with sansho pepper, can be eaten from head to tail. There were three ayu in the dish. When you pour tea over it, the flavor of nori (seaweed) gently spreads. I enjoyed biting into the plump ayu and mixing it with rice and tea. It was delicious and left me feeling satisfied. I indulged in the wonderful cuisine made from river delicacies. It was delicious.

This is a fashionable lunch series. I had a meal at Torii Chaya Kibune, where you can taste Kyoto even though it is not by the river. I chose the Ayu Tea Pickles with three fish. Since it's one dish per person, I also ordered Yudofu (hot tofu) and grilled salted ayu fish. The flavors were good and I was able to spend a pleasant time with an elegant atmosphere. However, the inside of the restaurant was hot. I tend to feel hot easily, so it may have been more noticeable to me. Thank you for the meal! The fashionable lunch series will continue.

I visited this place as everywhere else was crowded when I went to Kibune Shrine in Kyoto. I had the Ayu tea rice bowl, which was delicious with the fragrant flavor of mountain pepper and soy sauce. The head of the Ayu fish was soft and tasty. The dish also had a unique touch with the local specialty of wood buds. The wasabi was quite spicy, as it was made from cyclodextrin, but it added a nice kick to the dish. The somen noodles were delicious with plenty of vegetables. While other places nearby offered riverbed cuisine for over 6000 yen per person, this place was more affordable at around 1000 yen.

I entered Kifune for the first time around 1 pm. It was full, but I was able to get a table without waiting. I ordered Kifune soba for 950 yen and a bottle of beer. It was a Super Dry in a small bottle. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. Kifune soba is served cold with toppings like shredded seaweed, simmered shiitake mushrooms, and a boiled egg. It also comes with grated yam to pour over, and a dipping sauce. It also includes simmered shiitake mushrooms with sansho pepper, which goes well with beer. I wish they had brought this out with the beer at first. The soba was nicely chilled and had a good texture. The sweet yam mixed well with the savory broth, and the slightly salty dipping sauce added a nice touch. Located near the entrance to Kifune Shrine, I thought it might have a touristy taste, but it was quite good.

I decided to enjoy the early autumn leaves with my mother today. We visited an area we have been to many times before, but this time we took a bus and a train to get there. Surprisingly, we arrived smoothly in Kurama and walked to Kibune while admiring the autumn leaves. We then took a bus to Kifune Shrine. Even though it's still a bit early for the autumn leaves, there were already a lot of people. The light-up at Kifune Shrine had started, making it a popular spot. Due to the impact of this year's typhoons, many trees were still down and it seems like it will take some time for recovery. Despite thinking that it was still a bit early for the autumn leaves, we could see some areas with colorful leaves. On the way back, we took a bus and a train, but we couldn't take the same bus back in one go, so we took a break at a tea house nearby. This time, we ordered mitarashi dango for 300 yen. You can help yourself to warm tea. The mitarashi dango consisted of five small rice dumplings skewered together and coated with plenty of sauce. They were grilled on a stove, but the charred marks were light. The sauce was light and paired well with the soft mochi, bringing happiness. Overall, enjoying the delicious autumn air, beautiful autumn leaves, and tasty dango, we fully enjoyed the autumn season.
