野良パンダム
First visit. A popular izakaya in Ebisu with long lines. No reservations. The signature dish is gyoza. You can enjoy the gyoza that was highly praised as a street food in Kochi Prefecture in Tokyo. There is always a line during dinner time, but I found out that there is no line in the evening, so I decided to go for gyoza and beer. As expected, I was able to enter without waiting. However, all the table seats in the restaurant were already taken. It's amazing how popular it is even at such an odd time. So, I ended up at the counter seat, which is fine for me as a solo diner. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is typical izakaya style, so it might not be suitable for non-drinkers. I was in the mood for gyoza and beer, so no problem for me. Besides gyoza, there are several other appetizer options, but as a solo diner, I couldn't order too much, so I just got gyoza and vegetables. The items I ordered were gyoza x2 (495 yen each), potato salad (528 yen), and draft beer (616 yen). The gyoza was served much faster than I expected, but the size was quite small. It's easy to eat in one bite, so I just popped it into my mouth. Oh! It's delicious! The crispy thin skin is filled with a vegetable-heavy filling that is well-seasoned, and you can taste the flavor of the filling even on its own. I like the combination of the gentle filling and the crispy skin. Despite being cooked with a lot of oil, the thin skin and mild flavor of the filling make it easy to eat without feeling too heavy. I could easily finish two plates of these. The potato salad was unexpectedly served in a different style. It had whole potatoes and whole boiled eggs in a mortar. According to the staff, you can crush them to your liking before eating. I thought they would prepare it for me! But when I tried it, it was surprisingly fun. Adjusting the texture while eating was quite enjoyable. The amount of mayonnaise was a bit too much for my liking, so it would have been better if I could add my preferred amount. It was a short drinking session that lasted about 10 minutes. There are other dishes for closing, but honestly, I didn't have high expectations, so I decided to eat elsewhere. The bill was unexpectedly high for a short drinking session, and waiting in line was a bit of a hassle, but the gyoza was delicious and I would like to eat it again. I mean, can you really eat delicious gyoza at a street stall in Kochi... Kochi, you're amazing!
