It was a sunny day with a temperature of around 20 degrees, so I felt it would be a waste to stay at home and decided to visit the Car Orie Shrine, which I had never been to before. I knew that this shop was located in front of the Car Orie Shrine station on the Randen line, but when I got off the station, there was a line with a wait of four groups. It was a stand-style shop with a thread on Tabelog, and there were quite a few reviews, so I thought it must be good, and I lined up without deciding what to buy. The person in front of me ordered a matcha latte, and the staff explained the differences between the three types of matcha lattes, with the most expensive one being described as overturning the concept of matcha. It was said to have no bitterness at all, but isn't matcha supposed to be bitter? I thought that the charm of matcha was to enjoy it with sweet snacks, so I decided to go for the most expensive matcha latte. After ordering, they prepared the matcha, and it was ready in 2-3 minutes. They recommended not adding sugar, so I followed their advice. When I tried it, indeed, there was hardly any bitterness, just a faint hint. I could taste a subtle sweetness, similar to Gyokuro tea. It might be better to enjoy it as matcha itself in order to savor the tea properly. It was good to have the matcha latte without sugar, without ice, and without any snacks, sitting on the stone wall of the Car Orie Shrine and savoring it slowly. The weather was nice, and despite it being mid-March, the cherry blossoms were blooming. There were many people, but it wasn't too crowded, so I was able to leisurely stroll around. I would like to try their matcha next time.
