High Cost-Performance Morning at Kyoto Rikyu Odashi and Dashimaki ♡ Kyoto ❤︎ Takeda ♡ my pick! ・ Dashimaki Gohan and Kamadaki Rice ♡ Kyoto Minami Inter near Jonangu Shrine "Kyoto Rikyu - Odashi and Dashimaki" a theme park for dashi opened on August 8, 2022! In a spacious area renovated from a Japanese house, there is a space where you can learn about the charm of dashi and Japanese recipes. Take-out options include dashi packs and bento boxes. There is also an eat-in space where you can enjoy dashi rolls and kamadaki rice bowls. It is a new proposal-type dashi specialty store where you can experience various dashi cultures. I went to have breakfast at such a store. It is located along National Route 1, just after crossing Kyoto Minami Inter in the direction of Osaka, you can see the store in the parking lot of "Mine Toranosuke". It is a bit far from Takeda Station, so I took a taxi there, and it was a quick ride. The operating company is the same as "Mine Toranosuke". A large Japanese house has been renovated and rebuilt. I arrived 10 minutes before opening, but there was already a waiting line of 2 groups! In addition, there were 2 reserved groups before that, so I barely made it in for the first round. When you enter the entrance, you can feel the warmth of the wood in a stylish space. In the back kitchen, you can see artisans rolling dashimaki. There is also an eat-in space at the back of the store where you can enjoy freshly made dashimaki and kamadaki rice bowls. The eat-in space has a total of 24 seats including table seats and private rooms, creating a refined and calm atmosphere. By the way, if you don't come for the first round, you will inevitably have to wait for about 2 hours for the second round... so you will end up having lunch. When you sit down, there is only one menu item, "Dashimaki Gohan and Kamadaki Rice". First, start with a tasting of 4 types of dashi. The standard Rikyu Odashi, Kyoto Sawara, Agodashi, and Katsuo dashi. When you compare the dashi, the differences are clear. They are all delicious, but the umami and flavors are completely different. You can choose your favorite dashi, and it will be used for the dashimaki. This time, I chose Rikyu Odashi. While tasting the dashi, the rice is cooked bubbling away. When the rice is ready, the rice bowl is served! The fluffy dashimaki with plenty of dashi is exquisite. It is satisfying until the end with plenty of dashi. The freshly cooked rice comes with side dishes such as grilled mackerel, shrimp, duck roast, terrine, corn, and eel vinegar. They are all cooked using dashi, so they are rich in flavor. You can also enjoy the rice as dashi ochazuke at the end. You can choose 3 out of 5 condiments for the dashimaki. This time, I chose grated daikon, Kujo green onion soy sauce, and katsuomayo. The dashimaki is delicious on its own, but with condiments, it offers a different flavor. It was truly a dashi theme park that resonated with the five senses from the perspectives of aroma, flavor, umami, and learning.
