On February 5, 2022, Chef Okuno, who had worked as a sous chef at the popular patisserie "Gokan" in Osaka, returned to his hometown and opened his own patisserie. Despite the low number of reviews, the current rating on Tabelog is 3.09. The patisserie is very popular among locals, often selling out before closing time, as seen on Instagram. Although the location may be a bit inconvenient, I have been visiting the patisserie on my trips to Kyoto because I was captivated by the chocolate and thinly baked galettes (available in plain and chocolate flavors). This time, during our annual anniversary trip to Kyoto, we arrived in the evening after visiting two patisseries following the Setsubun bean-throwing ceremony at Yasaka Shrine, so there were only a few items left. Unfortunately, my favorite chocolate was sold out, but I decided to try the hazelnut chocolate with yuzu flavor, pearl chocolate, and chocolate creme brulee. To my surprise, I received a set of sweets and a discount coupon for a whole cake as a first-anniversary gift at the checkout. Lucky me! The galette was thin and crispy with a rich chocolate flavor. The hazelnut chocolate with a hint of yuzu was a delightful blend of Japanese and Western flavors. The pearl chocolate featured various flavors like bitter, raspberry, caramel, and milk. The chocolate creme brulee was rich and satisfying, and the portion was generous enough for two people. The gift included two bonbon chocolates, three types of cookies, and round chocolate sandwich cookies, some of which were not yet available in the store. As the chef specializes in chocolate, all the treats were delicious. The patisserie offers a wide range of products, perfect for gifts. I hope more people will discover this patisserie. I had planned to visit again recently but had to cancel due to a minor injury. I hope to recover soon and visit next month. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

I had a fall frappe and eclair in the store, and got a pudding to go. The Earl Grey jelly, peach frappe, and pear compote were delicious. The peach flavor was strong, but the Earl Grey jelly added just the right amount of sweetness. The quality for 550 yen is amazing.

SHIKI Kyoto Nishijin is a shop that aims to create using carefully selected ingredients, much like the art of weaving with high-quality threads in Nishijin weaving. The shop offers special bonbon chocolates made by award-winning chocolatiers from various chocolate contests. While the shop's image may be associated with chocolate, they also offer beautifully crafted baked goods, canelés, and cakes. One of their specialties is the Nishijin Plain Canelé, made using tofu milk from a long-established tofu shop in Kyoto founded during the Meiji era. The canelé has a crispy exterior and a chewy interior, with a perfect size that captures the essence of a canelé. Compared to other canelés found in Tokyo, which tend to have a hard and crunchy texture, I personally prefer the chewy canelé from this shop. The fact that you can order online for home delivery is also a convenient feature, making it a great option for gifting. The shop accepts credit card payments as well. I purchased two new menu items and my favorite pudding. I visited in the early afternoon, but many cakes were already sold out. The whimsical menu items are highly recommended. SHIKI's pudding is so delicious that once you try it, you'll definitely want more. The Rich Framboise Raspberry cake had a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors, bitter chocolate, and refreshing lychee sweetness. The Tea Poire Earl Grey Mousse Chocolat cake with caramel cream, lemon and bergamot cream, and semi-confit pear was also delicious with the fragrance of bergamot, the sweetness of pear, and the refreshing lemon cream as accents.

A new outlet of Canale Mania has opened in Shibuya Scramble Square. The daily special from Canale Mania Select is the Canale Chocolat Cafe (tax included 430 yen). It was rich in flavor and texture, just like eating a chocolate cake, with a slight bitterness. It also had the unique crispy texture of a canale, making it a satisfying and delicious treat!

In March 2023, an event called Familia Morning Gift was held at Aeon Lake Town Mori 2nd floor in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture. The event featured stylish goods and delicious bread and sweets, including a Kyoto specialty called Orio's Cannele with Uji Matcha. I bought the Uji Matcha Cannele for 390 yen and shared it with my family at home. The green color is not mold, but matcha powder. The texture was crunchy on the outside and moist like castella on the inside, with a strong matcha flavor throughout. It is recommended for matcha lovers.

The second time having the Birthday Cake from SHIKI, the cream in the entremet was delicious with a strawberry shortcake-like flavor. The cream had a nice sweetness and the sponge was fluffy. Today is a family member's birthday, following Christmas, I purchased it from SHIKI again.

The interior of the shop is chic and elegant, and the cakes lined up in the showcase are dazzling. The Christmas Rishu House cake priced at 4800 yen immediately caught my eye, and I knew that my hungry friends would definitely love it. I placed my order just in time, and I was relieved that I did. The chocolate cake is so cute, with a mechanism where you can break the chocolate in front to reveal a Santa Claus inside (check the second picture). The chocolate cake itself is perfectly balanced, not too sweet or too bitter, with a rich and delicate texture that conveys a sense of happiness with every bite. It's truly amazing. I highly recommend this cake shop in Kyoto. Be sure to check it out!

Christmas cake Trois Fromages size 5, 4300 yen. Despite being cheese-heavy, it was surprisingly light and delicious. Layers from top to bottom: Crème Chantilly, strawberry and raspberry semi-confit, Blancmange cheese, baked cheese, raspberry jam, maple sablé. Each layer seemed to be meticulously crafted.

I purchased a West Jin Matcha Cannele (390 yen) at an event. It has a strong aroma, but the crust was not crispy. It is a moist cannele. The inside is rich matcha with sweetness, and the surface is sprinkled with bitter matcha powder, which is delicious. I wished I could feel more matcha aroma, but the burnt smell is strong.

The curveball of canelé! I tried the Nishijin an butter flavor. Delicious! What I expect from canelé is the contrast between the crispy texture on the outside and the chewy texture on the inside. In addition, the playfulness of the an butter flavor makes you want to eat another one right away, not just one. I should have bought some.

I visited the shop on Saturday, March 12, 2022, a little after 3 o'clock. The atmosphere of the shop is lovely, and I was impressed by its spacious and stylish interior. I bought a shortcake, a Blanc Orange, and a Frais Pistache. The sponge of the shortcake was amazing, so fluffy. The Blanc Orange had a nice balance between the orange acidity and the sweetness of the chocolate. The Frais Pistache was full of pistachio flavor! I think this shop deserves a lot of praise!

The newly opened shop was beautifully decorated with celebratory flowers. Inside, the shop had a chic and elegant atmosphere, with cakes neatly arranged. I tried various chocolate cakes such as Rich Chocolat (620 yen), Tart Fraises (650 yen), Gateau Chocolat (540 yen), Brulee Chocolat (490 yen), Madeleine (230 yen), Financier (250 yen), and Pearl Chocolat (750 yen). The shop mainly sold chocolates and chocolate cakes, and the flavors were rich and the texture was smooth. The chocolate pearls added a nice crispy touch. Before I knew it, I had finished them all. It's great to have another nice shop like this!

You can't tell what kind of shop it is from the outside, but as soon as you enter, beautiful Piedmont chocolates are displayed, showing the shop's expertise. A famous chocolatier with numerous awards has recently opened a shop, creating buzz on social media. The "Kyobassan Bassan" means basin, with ganache and chocolate covering the hollow. The size is small, but the rich flavor makes it satisfying. I purchased Financier Caramel and Plain, both moist and with a strong flavor. The Brulee Chocolat is torched on the surface upon order, with a smooth and rich taste that chocolate lovers will enjoy. The cakes were sold out, but I was happy with the baked goods and chocolates I bought. Overall, the flavors are rich, and while they offer cakes and baked goods, the main attraction is definitely the chocolates. With Valentine's season approaching, I am curious about their Bonbon Chocolat. I wish someone would gift it to me.

Peach frappe is delicious and highly recommended for peach lovers. It is said to use the equivalent of 2 peaches in one serving. The cakes are visually appealing and taste great, you can eat as many as you want. Updated as of August 4th. Looking forward to more of their whimsical menu items.
