Kyoto Station was crowded with people, but we found a place with fast turnover and no waiting in line. We ordered using a tablet, and the menu was easy to understand with set options available. We ordered individual items and were impressed by the speed, quality, and cost. It felt like a fast-food place for fried skewers, and we were satisfied with our meal for two at 5,000 yen. We would definitely consider going back when we visit Kansai again.

I visited the Porta store's Kushikatsu Daruma-san. Since it's in Kyoto, I thought of it as "obanzai" too, but as a fan of Kushikatsu Daruma, I just had to go. The thin batter, crispy frying - it's the best! My personal recommendation is the garlic-flavored chicken tenderloin. I couldn't stop drinking alcohol. The number of COVID cases is increasing. Internal disinfection is important, right? (laughs)

After work, I went to Porta for a quick drink before heading home. There was no wait at Daruma so I ordered some kushikatsu. I had a draft Peroni beer along with a few skewers. A quick meal and then off home. This kind of casual dining experience works well for me.

I have been going to this restaurant since it was the only one, but I like Daruma's batter the best. The toppings are similar in most places, but the batter can vary from crispy to firm depending on the restaurant. I've been to many places, but Daruma is my favorite. Having a quick drink at the station. Easy to get in without waiting. Lemon sour for 450 yen, squid and octopus for 130 yen each, and chicken with plum and shiso for 200 yen. In these times, free cabbage has been discontinued. I'd eat it if it was there, but it's not necessary. The squid was juicy and delicious. I wonder why the skewers at kushikatsu restaurants are so tasty. Maybe it's the thin coating. Convenience is also a plus.

There was a Daruma at Kyoto Station that I had been curious about for a while. After shopping with a friend, we thought about having tea, but for some reason, our legs took us to Daruma instead, haha. I don't drink, but my friend who loves beer was thrilled. We ordered a set menu with 9 skewers and doteyaki. While there are usually long lines in Shinsekai, we were able to enter the restaurant easily at an odd time. We enjoyed everything we ordered. However, I had terrible heartburn after returning home, maybe because I wasn't feeling well. It seems like the turnover isn't great on weekday afternoons. I wonder if the prices are the same as in Shinsekai? It's definitely geared towards tourists.

We finished work early so we came out for drinks together! It's been a while since we had kushikatsu at Daruma, especially now that it's easier to get to at Kyoto Porta! It's a bit sad that they no longer have sauce in a cup due to COVID, and the rule of "no double dipping" is gone too. The kushikatsu here has a bit too much batter, which is a shame. The taste can vary depending on the store. I don't like the sourness of the sauce at Kushikatsu Tanaka, but I love the sauce here (laughs). It's sweet and refreshing! It was delicious! We had a beer, Malt's Master Dream, and whiskey, Yamazaki, and they were delicious. By the way, they started charging for the cabbage!

The New World Set comes with 12 skewers and a specialty Doteyaki, enjoyed with Premium Malt beer. The natural shrimp was delicious. The restaurant was quite noisy and the tables were small, making it hard to relax. It took three requests before we finally got some water.

Eating daruma in Kyoto is a delightful experience. Lately, my trend is to have a quick daruma meal before taking the Shinkansen back. I visited around 2 pm on Saturday but it was full. There were already 2 groups waiting ahead of us. We sat at the counter seats. The cabbage was sweet. The batter was light, crispy, and fluffy, easy to eat. My favorites were the cheese and shrimp. The cheese was gooey and the shrimp was thick and juicy! It went well with beer!! The atmosphere inside the restaurant was lively, with the staff's loud voices filling the air. Many customers seemed to be eating quickly and leaving, so the turnover was fast. After watching a play, I felt like having a beer and ended up coming here on a whim. It was just before 6 pm on a weekday and there was only one group ahead of me in line. We were seated at a table for two within a few minutes, although I would have preferred sitting at the counter. The table next to us had a tablet for ordering, but we had to use a call button here. For seasonal skewers, we ordered mugwort gluten, oysters, and green onions, along with a draft beer! Skewers and beer go so well together. I realized that while there are many Daimaru kushikatsu restaurants in Osaka, I may have never been to one. I then had a Daimaru highball, followed by cold sake. I added shrimp, camembert cheese, quail eggs, smelt fish, and asparagus skewers. Eight skewers and three drinks in total cost 3,146 yen. Enjoying a solo drink while reminiscing about the play is so much fun. The Kyoto Station area has a variety of easy-to-reach restaurants, making it perfect for pre-theater lunch, watching a play, and post-theater drinks. I might not be visiting Kyoto Station as often once "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" ends, but I always enjoy the dining options nearby. On the way back, there were over 20 people waiting in line, probably because it was Friday night. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Today, I visited Kushi Katsu Daruma Kyoto Porta store located in the underground shopping area in front of Kyoto Station. I ordered their specialties: Doteyaki for 440 yen, Beef Tenderloin for 220 yen, Original Kushi Katsu for 143 yen, Pickled Ginger for 132 yen, Quail for 132 yen, and a draft beer for 616 yen. Since there are no kushi katsu restaurants in my local area, whenever I come to western Japan, I end up eating a lot of kushi katsu. But it was still delicious. Thank you for the meal.

During lunchtime at Kyoto Station, all the restaurants had long lines. So, we decided to have kushikatsu instead, to avoid waiting. The line was long, but it moved quickly, so the wait wasn't too bad. We sat at the counter and ordered one by one from the menu. In the end, the two of us had almost 20 skewers plus drinks. When you go for kushikatsu, you usually know what you want to eat, but ordering individual items can add up in price. It would be nice if they had a lunch set or something. Our order included octopus, squid, scallops, quail, two types of cheese, chikuwa cheese, lotus root, and yagen. My daughter also had zuri. All our orders arrived at once. It was a sight to see! We quickly devoured everything. The most delicious ones were the cheese skewers and the yagen. While we were inside, we noticed that the line occasionally got longer, but the way they handled the orders seemed efficient, so it didn't seem like you'd have to wait for a long time.

I was able to visit the famous Daruma for the first time. I went around 9 pm on a Friday night and was able to enter without waiting in line. I had a few drinks for about 100 to 200 yen each, and spent around 3000 yen per person. The food was really delicious, especially the kushikatsu. I also recommend trying the doteyaki besides the kushikatsu.

After returning from a business trip, I visited a restaurant with a senior colleague from work. It's located in the station building, so it's great that we didn't have to walk far. We arrived a bit early, so we didn't have to wait in line to get in! The pork miso stew here is delicious! And all the deep-fried skewers are consistently tasty! I thought it would be a quick meal, but we ended up enjoying ourselves until the last train! Thank you for the meal!

The last stop of my trip is always Daruma-san. The kushikatsu with the crispy coating made in the kitchen is just delicious. It's great that you can enjoy it without having to go to Osaka. I used to like Daruma Hozoji store and often went there, but I tried the Porta store that opened. It was 4:00 pm on a weekday. There was no line and I was able to enter smoothly. I ordered the usual draft beer and the Dotonbori set! However, the draft beer took a while to come out! I had to make do with the cabbage. After a 20-minute wait, the draft beer finally arrived! Even though it wasn't crowded? Why. It seems that the part-time staff were not cooperating well and there were few of them, so it was chaotic! It's clearly different from the Hozoji store. This is not good. Some people might not make it in time for their train. Please be more organized! The taste was delicious as always!

It seems like there are various opinions about it, but I still think "Daruma" is delicious!! This is the only store in Kyoto. Thank you for coming to Kyoto. They also have wines that were not available at the Umeda Chayamachi store I usually go to! Amazing! However, on this day, I had a highball because I had already had wine at another store. LOL
