On Friday at 7:30 pm, I stopped by Porta on my way home from work. A corner of Toyo-tei had been turned into a takeout counter and standing drinking area. The staff member in charge of takeout was also handling other tasks, so I had to wait a bit after entering. I ordered some bubbles and snacks. The sparkling wine was poured generously, making it feel like a great deal. What's the difference between rillettes and pâté? There are high chairs at the counter, so you can actually sit down and enjoy your drink.

I woke up early and stopped by a restaurant in Kyoto for lunch because I was so hungry. I wanted to try the salmon salad in the showcase, but it wasn't on the menu, which was disappointing. The restaurant is a long-established one with branches in Osaka, Kyoto, and Wakayama, and it was already crowded before noon. The hamburgers and steaks seemed to be popular, but I didn't care and just wanted the salmon salad that I couldn't have. So, I ended up choosing the omurice set because I didn't want to spend too much money. The set came with a whole peeled tomato on the plate with dressing, and cucumber and onion in mayonnaise sauce underneath. The omurice was simply delicious, with a traditional taste. The hamburgers and steaks looked very appetizing. Some people may not like the tomato, but even my daughter who doesn't like them managed to eat it somehow, haha.

I visited during a day trip to Kyoto. I tried the recommended century-old Western-style hamburger steak (beef stew sauce) cake set. The hamburger steak, wrapped in aluminum foil, was freshly baked and a masterpiece that made me feel the history. I would love to visit again next time I travel.

Located at the west end of the restaurant street in the underground area of Kyoto Station Porta. Tomato and tuna salad, filet beef cutlet, famous hundred-year-old Western food hamburger steak, cheese hamburger. Everything I ate was delicious (^_^*) The hamburger wrapped in aluminum foil was exciting to open and had a great texture, it was the best (^_^*) The accompanying potatoes were fluffy and well-seasoned, delicious! The extra curry was also irresistibly delicious! The rice just kept going and going, non-stop! But don't worry, you can have seconds of rice ◎ The only thing that wasn't as delicious, not that it was bad, was the pan-fried Oyama chicken. The drink service takes a little time, so I recommend ordering in advance if you want to have it with your meal. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited the famous hamburger restaurant Toyo-tei in Kyoto Station during my Shinkansen trip. Just like the popular restaurant "Sawayaka" in Shizuoka, Toyo-tei's hamburger had a refreshing taste with a hint of acidity from the tomatoes. The side dish of potatoes was so delicious and plentiful that it felt more like a main dish. The hamburger, wrapped in aluminum foil, stayed hot until the very last bite. Despite waiting in line for about 30 minutes during lunchtime, it was definitely worth it.

I was in the mood for Western food, so I went to Capital Toyo-tei at Kyoto Porta. I started with a rich vegetable juice to quench my thirst, then shared an assortment of appetizers with a friend. The tomato salad, marinated salmon, and pate were all delicious and well-prepared. For the main course, I splurged on the beef cutlet. The meat was cooked perfectly and paired well with the sauce. The mustard added a nice touch of flavor. Even the vegetables on the side were delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I lined up 30 minutes before the store opened and was third in line. By the time the store opened, there was a long line. Luckily, I was able to sit in a chair so it wasn't too painful to wait for 30 minutes. The tomato salad followed by the hamburger steak was delicious. I noticed they were selling the tomato dressing, so I asked if it was the same as what they serve in the restaurant. They explained that the dressing sold in stores is made in a factory, while the one served in the restaurant is made in-house.

It has been about 20 years since my last visit. My mother used to bring me here for special treats, so it holds a lot of memories for me. The taste and size of the dishes were different from what I remembered, but that in itself became a new memory. The staff members are still friendly as ever. This is a lunch before watching a play. Since it was a Sunday, I lined up 30 minutes before the opening, but still ended up being the 10th person in line. This place is definitely the busiest out of the three shops. I ordered a black beer, bamboo shoot fries, and the 100-year hamburger set. I heard that the bamboo shoot fries come before the hamburger, so I asked for them first, but surprisingly the hamburger came out first. I didn't have much time and ended up getting too full to eat the bread... I feel a little disappointed. The food tasted good, but for some reason, it's the best when I eat at the Miyakomichi shop... I wonder why...

Visited on a weekday night after 7 pm. There was a long line of tourists, and I waited for about an hour. I ordered a tomato salad and a hamburger. The tomato salad arrived in about 5 minutes, followed by the hamburger in about 15 minutes. The tomato salad consisted of a whole tomato, topped with tuna, cucumber, and sliced onions mixed in dressing. It was perfectly chilled, with the sweet peeled tomato, subtle acidity from the dressing, and the mildness of the tuna blending well together. I devoured it in no time. The hamburger arrived wrapped in aluminum foil. When I cut open the foil with a knife and fork, a piping hot hamburger was revealed. It was seasoned well, with a demiglace sauce complementing the tender beef, mushrooms, and string beans. The generous portion of hamburger was delicious! The whole baked potato served as a side was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a natural sweetness. I would love to visit again.

I had the beef stew hamburger, the signature menu item at the number one restaurant, for lunch. The delicious beef stew sauce was poured over the hamburger, which was topped with tender, juicy pieces of meat. It made me feel luxurious. As soon as I opened the wrapping with a knife, steam rose up, and eating the hamburger was exciting. It was a delightful hamburger lunch.

This restaurant always has a long line, and even on holidays, the Porta branch has a line as well. This time, I ordered the signature dish, the 100-year-old Western-style hamburger, which is served one hour later. First, I enjoyed the famous whole tomato salad while waiting for the main dish. The tomato had a mild acidity and sweetness, which paired well with the dressing and tuna potato. When the 100-year hamburger arrived, it was sealed in aluminum foil and steaming hot. Cutting into it released juicy meat and plenty of demi-glace sauce. The whole baked potato also added a substantial element to the meal, leaving me feeling satisfied. The A lunch set is the basic option, but upgrading to B includes dessert and coffee, and C comes with corn soup as well. This is a restaurant worth visiting on an empty stomach.

It's daytime at Kyoto Station. It's a shop run by a high school classmate. Without realizing it, the number of shops has increased a lot. It's been about 20 years since I last visited. I decided to bring my daughters to try out Toyo-Tei. But the line was crazy long. I had to wait for an hour and a half. I ordered the hamburger set for 1580 yen and the fried chicken for 820 yen. The tomato salad was surprisingly delicious. It brought back sweet memories from my high school days. The hamburger was just as I remembered - the shape wrapped in aluminum foil and the sauce. The meat was slightly firm and delicious. The meal was satisfying. No wonder it's so popular. There were also many tourists. Thank you for the delicious meal. I passed on the tradition to my daughters.

There are no issues with the atmosphere of the restaurant, the food served, or the taste! However, if I had to say something, it would be that it would have been better if they used a system where they call out names in order. We had to wait in line, and although there were some chairs, there weren't enough, so we ended up standing for quite a long time and got tired.

After returning from Kiyomizu-dera, I was looking for a place to grab a light snack at Kyoto Station. Many places were crowded, so I ended up at a standing bar. It was more like a snack than a meal, but I didn't have much time, so it was fine. I had the salmon rillette, which paired well with the baguette. And the beer I had was Kyoto Station Beer, brewed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Kyoto Station building. There are two types, yellow and amber, and I tried the yellow one this time. It was a refreshing beer with a hint of hops. It didn't fill me up too much, but it was enough.

It had tuna salad inside and the peeled tomatoes were sweet and delicious. It was almost all tomatoes. So many tomatoes. They were cute tomatoes. Next was the Mushroom Soup. This was so delicious. It was quite rich, and I'm sure it would be absolutely delicious with pasta. And then the Hamburg Steak. It was surprisingly 1.5 times bigger than I imagined. The potato was also incredibly large haha. The taste was the classic demiglace overflowing with meat juices. It had a delicious flavor that would appeal to everyone, without any bitterness. The beef stew meat was tender and delicious. The buttered potatoes were fluffy. I was so ready to have seconds, but the potatoes filled me up. We shared the cake, and both the fig brulee tart and milk crepe had a sophisticated sweetness that was delicious and made me happy. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the restaurant around 11 am on a weekday and already there were 23 people ahead of me. They were calling out the numbers in order, but by around number 19, they started the second round. I had to wait for a while, but there were chairs outside so I decided to chat while waiting. They also offer the option to be called on your phone. The restaurant wasn't very spacious, but the seating arrangement made it hard to feel crowded. They quickly brought me a glass of water and handed me the menu. I ordered the B set which came with dessert and a drink. The tomato salad that arrived first was delicious as always. Then came the hot hamburger straight from the oven, with fluffy potatoes on the side. You could choose between rice and bread, and the bread was warm and tasty. You could ask for seconds. The dessert options were good, and the iced coffee was delicious. The milk crepe was also tasty. All this for around 2000 yen made me very satisfied.

Located in the northern district, Capital Toyo-tei's branch at Porta is always crowded during lunchtime. Despite arriving a bit late, I still had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. I ordered the famous Hundred-Year Hamburger set, which comes with dessert and a drink. The highlight was the whole tomato salad, which was generously sized and featured tender Hokkaido tomatoes, cabbage, tuna, and a delicious dressing. The hamburger itself was served in a wooden pot holder that had turned black from the heat, adding to the excitement. When the foil-wrapped skillet with a large potato was brought to the table, I couldn't help but be amazed. Cutting open the foil revealed a large hamburger with plenty of sauce and even more meat on top. It was accompanied by a generous serving of beef stew and steamed potatoes. The hamburger, despite its appearance, was surprisingly light and flavorful. Adding pepper or salt enhanced the flavors even more. Rice refills were offered, and I decided to add a chestnut milk crepe for dessert. The dessert selection was extensive, with various cakes and the option to upgrade from a cake to a set dessert. The chestnut milk crepe was meticulously layered with chestnut cream and topped with candied chestnuts. The iced tea was also served in a generous size. It's easy to see why people are willing to wait in line for this delicious meal.

During a visit in October 2022 on a weekday evening, the staff kindly reassured me with a "It's still okay!" as I rushed in just before closing time. I ordered the "Century-old Western-style Hamburger Steak," "Tomato Set," and "Lemonade" that had caught my eye before. Despite it being close to closing time, the place was bustling with customers of all ages. After about 10 minutes, my order arrived. The "Century-old Western-style Hamburger Steak" was described on the menu as "Hamburger steak wrapped in aluminum foil served with butter, a fluffy baked potato, and hot iron plate." The hamburger itself was flavorful, with just the right amount of juices oozing out. On top of the hamburger was tenderly simmered beef, which was also delicious with good fat content. The baked potato was indeed fluffy as described, and it tasted great with butter or dipped in demi-glace sauce. The "Tomato Set" consisted of a whole peeled tomato turned into a salad. The tomato, which seemed to be from Miyazaki prefecture that day, was sweet and delicious. The "Lemonade" was served with a glass containing ice and lemon, along with separate carbonated water and gum syrup for self-adjusting sweetness. It was convenient to be able to adjust the sweetness according to personal preference. Although it is a chain restaurant, I had the opportunity to try the representative Hamburger Steak from a famous restaurant. If given the chance, I would like to try other items on the menu as well.
