On my day off, it was hot so I decided to relax a bit, but when I saw the menu for "Alcohol Cream Soda", my cafe plan turned into a daytime drinking session! You can choose how to mix it, so I had it mixed with whiskey! For snacks, I had squid mentaiko (I was already full so I just had a small snack). The alcohol cream soda was so delicious! I'm hooked! Since it was a holiday, the place was packed. It was a lively smoking-permitted place! Next time, I want to come hungry and try out various snacks. Thank you for the meal!

I had always wanted to visit this place, and I finally got the chance to go on a weekday afternoon. I arrived around 1 pm and the restaurant was about half full. There were some people drinking, but it seemed like there were more people there for lunch. I noticed a parent and child eating ramen together. I ordered a draft beer right away. The spaghetti, which was just mixed with mayonnaise, was interesting. The fried food was a bit cheap, but it went really well with the beer. The long counter had seats close together, and the tables always ended up being shared with others, so it wasn't the most relaxing atmosphere. The menu had a wide variety of options from individual dishes to set meals and noodles, so I would like to come back again to try more.

I finally visited Kyogoku Stand! It's a great retro-style shop with a nice atmosphere. Isn't this beer mug cute? The combination of eggplant kimchi and beer is perfect. The pork belly with garlic was also delicious. I can't stop eating if there's white rice. I'll visit again. Next time, I want to try the tempura soba.

Arrived at the restaurant at 4:45 pm with a "full" sign, but they said it's okay for one person. I entered, but it was full of unknown old men, making it awkward. I ordered a draft beer and sashimi of sea bream. It cost 1920 yen, and the menu prices seemed to be excluding tax. The restaurant allows smoking, so the place was filled with cigarette smoke. The customer in front of me kept smoking non-stop. I wanted to leave quickly. The sea bream sashimi arrived, 6 pieces in total. I wasn't expecting much, but it was delicious! The flesh was tender and well-aged, full of flavor. They really know how to handle sea bream. I also ordered an M-sized T-shirt at the counter for 3500 yen, choosing black. Professional boat racers also wear it, I heard. I bought it to use as a uniform for VR. I had a drink to calm down. Is this the best way to use it? After that, I went to eat a conger eel rice bowl, fulfilling a dream I had for over 30 years. Thank you for the meal.

Starting from 12:00 pm, the Fushimi sightseeing tour with my friend from Osaka, who moved to Kyoto, was centered around memorable restaurants. The first stop was Kyogoku Stand, which I have visited with my friend about four times already, but it had been four years since our last visit. It was packed, but we managed to get a table just before the "full" sign was put up. We shared a table with another group and ordered some draft beer and a few appetizers. In the past, we would have extended our stay with more drinks, but this time we enjoyed octopus sashimi, hamo tempura, and a new dish of kimchi with eggplant. As we finished our last drink, we exchanged a glance and realized that we still understood each other well, despite the four-year gap. It's not that the restaurant was bad, but rather that we have become more discerning after trying delicious food and drinks at various places over the years. The nostalgic atmosphere of the place, where people huddle together, was enough to make us feel too full to drink anymore. The only solace was the kind service of the lady at the register. Thank you for all the good times we've had until now.

Day drinking, night drinking, or just grabbing a meal - it's great that you can do it all here. It may seem a bit shady from the outside since you can't see inside, but once you step in, everyone is having a great time drinking and chatting. I like the atmosphere here. Sharing a table with strangers is actually quite enjoyable. You can have a good time even if you're alone. Mackerel sashimi, beer, and tonkatsu - perfect combination. The conversations with my companions flow smoothly. As a smoker, I treasure places where I can smoke, making me want to stay longer. When I politely mentioned to the person next to me that I will be smoking, they replied with a loving "Go ahead, don't worry!" I absolutely love these stand-up bars!

I visited around 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday. The restaurant was almost full, with a couple of tourists from Taiwan, a stylish mature woman, and a shop staff who looked like a model sitting at the same table. We started off in silence but as we drank and chatted, we enjoyed beer sets, pork tempura, grilled eel, seaweed and cucumber salad, marinated chicken, hot sake, highballs with Suntory whiskey brands like Kakubin, Hakushu, and Yamazaki. I visit every time I go to Kyoto, and I love the casual atmosphere.

It gets very crowded around 2 pm on weekdays. There are a lot of middle-aged solo customers. The portion sizes for solo diners are a bit large, so it would be nice if they offered a half-size option. For those who want to try a variety of dishes, it seems best to go with two or more people. The ham cutlet is 600 yen (excluding tax), the deep-fried eggplant is 500 yen (excluding tax), and a draft beer is 550 yen (excluding tax).

Finally, I visited Kyogoku Stand, which has been in business for 96 years. They have a counter and several round tables inside, creating a lively atmosphere. It's a great place for daytime drinking in Kyoto, highly recommended! Even on weekdays, there are a few customers around, making it easy for solo visitors to drop in.

The logo of the store, the large central table, the feeling of leaning against strangers, the lovely receipt, the menu posted on the wall, the hustle and bustle of the store, everything is perfect at Kyogoku Stand. Around 5:30 pm when it gets crowded, I asked the guy in front of the store "One person" and he replied with a bright smile, "Oh, you can go in." Lucky me! I started with a beer. The draft beer here is really delicious. After working hard all day, I felt like saying "Itadakimasu" with a small voice, and the man in front of me nodded in agreement... Ah, happiness. The beer is so good!!! I hesitated between beef steak, sardine fry, and croquette for a snack, but decided on the beef steak since I had worked hard. It comes with lettuce and saraspa. The meat is tender, and the sweet and salty sauce with garlic (soy sauce marinated?) makes the beer go down smoothly. I wanted another one, but maybe because of summer fatigue, my stomach was full... feeling a bit dizzy... I wanted to go to the next place... so I ended my visit here. I wanted to try the croquette... I bought a new badge at the register and headed to the next place feeling light-hearted. Ah, happiness.

They write "stand" but it's not a stand, it's Kyogoku with an old-fashioned atmosphere and old-fashioned stance. They serve a huge amount of noodles and lots of homemade dishes. It's a nostalgic izakaya with a traditional feel. They offer agemen, hakusai kombu, and croquettes.

Kyogoku Stand in Kyoto is known as one of the top three traditional izakayas. I love the retro atmosphere here, and today I had a great time with Senbero (1,100 yen excluding tax). We enjoyed Spicy Salad, Edamame, Koya Tofu, Fried Squid, and Chicken and Vegetable Stew. The Fried Squid was the best! Thank you for the delicious meal. #KawaramachiGourmet #KyotoGourmet #Izakaya #Retro #Senbero #KyogokuStand #Kyoto #Beer

I always passed by Kyojima Stand because it was always crowded, but I finally got a chance to go in! I thought it would have more of a casual atmosphere, but the food was beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. The vegetable ankake was especially amazing. The staff were lovely, and even though it was bustling, it had a calming vibe. This place has become a must-visit spot in Kyoto for me. I will definitely be going back! A well-known Kyoto daytime drinking spot with over 50 years of history. I visited for a second round. Today's order: bottled beer, homemade croquette, potato salad. After ordering the homemade croquette, I mistakenly ordered the potato salad out of habit, resulting in a carb-heavy order, haha. The potato salad had a familiar, homey taste. The homemade croquette was large, freshly fried, and delicious! It came with a small portion of spaghetti, lettuce, and mayonnaise on the side, but I ended up eating them separately and couldn't decide if that was the right way. I wanted to try the popular ham cutlet and other dishes, so I'll definitely be back. Thank you for the meal.

A traditional diner established in the 2nd year of the Showa era, boasting a history dating back to 1921. In the early Showa period, it was a popular 10-sen diner. The tables and furnishings from that time are still in use, creating a nostalgic retro bar atmosphere. Recommended points include a wide variety of Western menu items, a welcoming atmosphere for solo diners with communal seating at the counter, cute retro-style order slips, and the rare opportunity to enjoy drinks from noon in Kyoto. It is recommended for a quick drink rather than a full dinner, as it was 80% full by 5:00 pm on weekdays. Located at Kyoto's Gion-Shijo area, just a short walk from Kawaramachi Station. Open from 12:00 to 21:15 (last order at 20:45), closed on Tuesdays. #KyotoGourmet #GionShijo #ShijoGourmet #ShijoKawaramachiGourmet #KyogokuStand #Izakaya

This lively bar is always bustling with regulars, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's easy for even solo customers to feel comfortable here. I tried their homemade croquettes, which had a crispy outer layer and a fluffy, potato-filled inside. They were delicious.

This is a great place to enjoy a delicious draft beer at the fantastic long counter. The staff are all cheerful and friendly, which creates a warm atmosphere. I ordered a medium draft beer and homemade croquettes. The croquettes were round and crispy on the outside, and soft and tasty on the inside, so I end up ordering them every time. They also offer dishes like kizushi, and in winter you can enjoy kasujiru. Despite mainly serving meat-based Western dishes, this restaurant has a wide variety of options on the menu.

I was tired from walking around the town of Kyoto. I finally managed to get through the heavy traffic at Nishiki Market (*´-`). I have one more thing I want to get, but time is running out. Hurrying to the department store basement in Kawaramachi ε=(ノ゚д゚)ノ to wait for the sale of "Futaba's Mochi". Alright, I made it just in time. The sale starts and I slowly move forward in line. "Only ○○ packs left~" says the staff. Am I going to be okay (-_-;) I'm next after next. There's a little left. At that moment, someone says, "I'll take all the remaining ones" ( ̄▽ ̄;) I'm exhausted. So exhausted. I've been working since morning, buying souvenirs in the crowds, and now this. Let's have a light drink somewhere and head home ( ω-、) Oh, Kyoto Stand is nearby. I enter the shop and see lots of customers enjoying a midday drink (°Д°) It's crowded on a Saturday afternoon in a tourist area, of course. The female manager-like lady points to an empty seat. "Please sit over there." I'm not really hungry, I just want to sit down and have something to drink. I get a shochu highball with lime and an omelette. Puhh(´Д`) Phew, I can finally take a breather. It's a strange space, like a school cafeteria or a public bath. Not a bad place at all (^.^) I don't mind the retro Showa atmosphere. I take a bite of the omelette. Delicious(^^) It's just a simple omelette, but it tastes surprisingly good. The sweetness of the egg soothes my tired body. I enjoy some light drinking while nibbling on snacks. It feels like the weekend in Kyoto, and it seems like COVID is a thing of the past. I thought about getting another drink, but my home is far away. It's time to head back. I have more work in Kyoto next month. I'll plan a better strategy next time. Thank you for the meal.

Personally, I tend to avoid places where smoking is allowed, but this place is smoker-friendly enough to advertise that smoking is allowed. Even if you end up sitting next to someone smoking, it's not a big deal here. That's why this might be the only place where I can tolerate smoking.

I really love this amazing restaurant. It has been around for a long time and stands out in Kyoto. I've always wanted to go in, but it's always packed with old men drinking during the day. I hadn't had lunch yet, so I decided to have a lunch of beef cutlet, ham cutlet, and highball. The receipt was impressive, and the cash register had a lot of history. The menu was amazing as well. It truly is a legendary place. The food was delicious! It had a fun Showa-era vibe, which was great for an old guy like me. It was delicious, thank you for the meal! And you can smoke inside too.
