The fried chicken set meal for 880 yen here is really delicious. It was requested multiple times as a celebration for family birthdays. Squeezing lemon and dipping it in soy sauce makes the fried chicken refreshing and juicy. It was so tasty, as always. Thank you for the meal.

Today's lunch was at "Saganoya", a restaurant located right in front of the south exit of JR Saga Arashiyama Station. It seems like they were closed for a while due to the pandemic, but they are open today. The exterior gives off a touristy dining spot vibe, with tables lined up inside. There are also narrow raised seating areas. They offer cold noodles and cold soba, which I enjoy, but I feel a bit hesitant to order them at a Japanese restaurant. They have a variety of noodle dishes, and the prices are quite reasonable. They also have a wide selection of Western-style set meals, but the Japanese set meals seem to be the main attraction. When it comes to specialties in Arashiyama, it's probably Yudofu. Since it's hot today, I decided on the "Upper Yakko Set Meal B (Tempura)" for 1650 yen. The dish arrived and it was a luxurious Japanese set meal. The rice came with pickles on top, which seems to be an old-school style. When I lifted the lid, I found tiny dried fish on the rice, adding a nice touch. The tempura was piping hot, and the shrimp was nice and firm. I enjoyed it with the tempura dipping sauce. The main dish was cold tofu. It was soft, but the tofu itself had a solid texture. The taste of soybeans really came through. It was topped with nameko mushrooms, and you could add plenty of condiments to your liking. The sauce for the cold tofu was just right, not too thick or too thin. It truly lives up to its reputation as a specialty dish. Despite being a tourist spot, you can enjoy delicious food at a reasonable price.

Local favorite diner, incredibly cheap and delicious! You can enjoy a Kagoshima beef kalbi set meal for only 1000 yen. The meat is tender and the addition of miso soup for 150 yen made it even more delicious. While many restaurants in Arashiyama have tourist prices, this place is a hidden gem! Definitely a place worth visiting again.

JR Saga Arashiyama Station South Exit Square, a charming dining room. It is open until late at night for this area, offering a wide range of dishes from affordable set meals to yudofu sets that can be enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The prices are reasonable given the location. There are quite a few 4-person table seats in the restaurant, and there is a small garden next to the toilet behind the door (not visible from inside). One day, I had the tempura set meal. The crispy tempura and the small dish of pickled vegetables were delightful. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 6 pm on a weekend evening. The restaurant was almost full, bustling with customers. There were tatami and table seats, creating a calm atmosphere. I ordered the following items:
- Pacific saury sushi: 320 yen (tax included)
- Deep-fried Kyoto tofu in dashi broth: 320 yen (tax included)
- Jumbo shrimp fry (single item): 800 yen (tax included)
After about 5 minutes, the dishes arrived one after another with a "thank you for waiting." I love shrimp fry, especially when eaten with tartar sauce. Tonight, I have three of them! The shrimp fry is plump and crispy, and it tastes delicious with the tartar sauce. The deep-fried tofu in dashi broth is also a favorite of mine. When you break the tofu with chopsticks, the inside is soft and goes well with the broth. The Pacific saury sushi is thinly sliced and marinated in vinegar, making it a great accompaniment to sake. There were limited-time menu items and good deals, making it a cheap and delicious meal.

At 6:00 pm, there were only 1-2 groups of customers in the restaurant, so the food came quickly. I was hungry, so I appreciated the menu which was perfect for alcohol pairing. I devoured it right away! Thank you for the meal!

This is my first visit. The prices are reasonable for a tourist spot. I had the Greedy Donburi, which is a bowl of beef and shrimp tempura with egg. It costs 1,080 yen. It was decent.

I'm happy to find a restaurant near Arashiyama that serves generous and reasonably delicious meals at this price! I visited after climbing Mt. Atago. The black pork fillet cutlet set meal was less than 900 yen.

I stayed overnight in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Since it was a room-only stay, the inn did not provide meals. When I asked the innkeeper, he said that there were dining options near Saga-Arashiyama Station that were open at that time. So, I walked there and arrived at a restaurant called "Sagano-ya". The interior was based on brown tones and very calming. I thought I could have a drink here, so I ordered some food and snacks for drinks. The first dish that came was deep-fried tofu. It was seasoned just the way I like it, with a good balance of sweetness and saltiness. The tofu was silky smooth, and had a nice texture when bitten into. Next, the main dish was Gyudon (beef and egg over rice). It came with pickles and red miso soup. The sweet and savory beef was topped with a half-cooked egg, and sprinkled with sansho pepper. The aroma of the broth was wonderful and the dish was delicious. Then, I had sashimi (no photo) and boiled pike conger. It was my first time trying pike conger, a food I don't usually eat in Iwate where I live. It had a taste similar to eel, and was light and easy to eat when paired with plum paste. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious. Since they also serve lunch, why not visit while sightseeing?

I visited this restaurant in March 2013. I have used this place several times before, but recently they have extended their evening hours, so you can enjoy drinks and small dishes in a casual tavern-like atmosphere. I ordered the Hungarian duck breast, Sakoshi oyster fry, fried potatoes, potato salad, and shrimp mayo salad from the chef's selection in March (each 300 yen and 500 yen). They also had dishes like simmered mackerel in white miso, spring vegetable tempura, and grilled shirako. Since I am writing this review in April, the menu may have changed, but they have staple items like noodles, rice bowls, and set meals. The kitsune udon I had as a closer had delicious broth and came with two pieces of fried tofu, which was very satisfying. My husband had the fry set meal, which was very generous in portion. The miso soup had a creamy texture. Located in front of a tourist spot, the customers seemed to be a mix of tourists and locals. The restaurant has a TV and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a delicious and casual place to visit anytime.

I stopped by during a trip. We arrived at the hotel late at night due to traffic, so we thought it would be nice to have dinner at a nearby izakaya. We didn't have high expectations since it was near the station, but it turned out to be a nice restaurant serving set meals. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and quite filling. My husband and I can't eat much, so it was a challenge to finish everything haha. The food was so good that we ended up visiting a few times during our stay. There were some variations in flavor, but overall we were satisfied. The recommended chicken tempura "toriten" was also delicious. When we stopped by for lunch, there was a child running around and the parents weren't paying attention, but the proprietress promptly took care of it, which was impressive. Both the food and the people at the restaurant were lovely. I definitely want to go back if I'm in the area again.

It was before noon, so the restaurant was empty with only one customer ahead of me. I ordered the "herring soba" and it arrived quickly. The herring was flavorful and the broth was rich, making it very delicious. I could taste the difference compared to the soy sauce flavor commonly found in the Kanto region. The menu board outside displayed photos and prices of each item, which I think is an important point for first-time customers passing by. Considering it's a tourist area, I found the price of 700 yen for the "herring soba" to be reasonable.
