Strawberry Afternoon Tea Kyoto City Hall, a wonderful restaurant and wedding venue renovated from the former headquarters building of "Shimadzu Seisakusho" built in the early Showa period. Here, you can enjoy not only lunch but also afternoon tea in a retro building with a luxurious cruise ship-like atmosphere. The interior is very cozy, with a bamboo grove in the courtyard and elegant koi swimming gracefully. You will feel like you have entered a different world, so green and oriental that you may forget you are in Kyoto city.
The afternoon tea guarantees a seat with a view of the courtyard (limited to 4 groups per day). This season, an afternoon tea featuring plenty of seasonal strawberries is being held. The menu includes a sparkling drink, sweets such as strawberry and cranberry blancmange, TWG® 1837 Black Tea and strawberry financiers, choux chocolat, vanilla macarons, strawberry tart with pistachio cream, lemon cake, and strawberry and white chocolate. The savory items include mini burgers with black wagyu roast beef, strawberry and burrata cheese caprese, and freshly baked scones. You can also enjoy a variety of teas, herbal teas, and coffee with free refills.
The cake stand is very cute and spring-like, with a perfect balance of colors. The fresh strawberries are abundant, and the sweets have a refreshing taste that makes you want to keep eating. The blancmange has a chewy texture and a delightful sweetness, while the tart with pistachio and strawberry has a surprising deliciousness with its crispy texture and fragrant aroma. All the sweets are delicious, which is a big plus. The savory items feature luxurious ingredients such as the crab cream croquette from Tajima and the mini burger with black wagyu beef. The strawberry and burrata cheese caprese is refreshing yet rich with the flavor of cheese.
For drinks, you can choose from a welcome drink of sparkling wine (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and we opted for a mocktail with strawberries. The restaurant also offers private rooms for small gatherings like girls' nights out, mom gatherings, or lunch meetings, so be sure to inquire when making a reservation. If you're looking for a memorable tea time during your Kyoto sightseeing, Fortune Garden Kyoto is highly recommended.
