I visited JR Nagoya Takashimaya. The Hiroshima Western confectionery store required online reservations, so I couldn't buy anything, but judging from the reviews on Tabelog, I wonder if it's really that popular. Without being able to try it, I decided to pass. Instead, I bought a pack of 5 Mitarashi dango from a popular Kyoto traditional Japanese confectionery store. I sprinkled some kinako on them and enjoyed them as a snack for today.

Solo trip to Kyoto. Originally, the boxed set was for 5 pieces, but now I'm full and wanted to have 3 pieces later in my hotel, so I asked if I could take a 3-piece set to eat in-store. They said it would be packed, but they wrapped it up for me to take away. The classic mitarashi dango was delicious, with the kinako adding an extra level of flavor.

Visited around 3 pm when feeling a bit hungry. The shop has about 10 seats for dining inside. Bought a set of 3 skewers and a drink. The shop was quite busy, so the staff was working efficiently. Got the dumplings and drink right after purchasing, almost no waiting time. The dumplings are delicious as they are, but even tastier with sweet soy sauce or powdered soybean. A great place to take a break when you need a moment to relax.

I was tempted by the sight of mitarashi dango and ended up buying some. The small dango were carefully grilled, with a fragrant crispy exterior that paired well with the not-too-sweet mitarashi sauce. Sprinkling kinako powder on top added an elegant touch to the flavor. Personally, I prefer dango with a savory soy sauce flavor, but I could appreciate this mitarashi dango. Thank you for the meal!

After exploring Kiyomizu-dera, we stopped by for a break. We placed our order at the entrance and enjoyed our snacks on the benches inside. I ordered Mitarashi dango and sweetened matcha. The sweet matcha was cold and lightly sweetened, refreshing on the palate. The Mitarashi dango was warm, chewy, and fluffy, freshly made. It was the perfect way to take a break during our visit to Kiyomizu-dera. Thank you for the meal.

It's Sunday afternoon. A raccoon satisfied its picky stomach at a sushi restaurant near Yasaka Shrine. Instead of taking the bus, it decided to walk to Kiyomizu Stage. Despite not fully healed, its back was fine thanks to the Vantelin lumbar corset. It also visited Kodai-ji Temple and walked through the Nene no Michi narrow path. Suddenly, it faced a steep incline. Feeling hot and uncomfortable due to the corset, it needed a break. It found Fushinami, where it locked onto a cold matcha drink. Sitting on a bench inside, it slowly enjoyed the natural sweetness of the matcha. Feeling refreshed, it continued towards Kiyomizu. And that's the end of the delicious meal.

I also purchased this at the Nagoya JR Takashimaya event. I had tried it before at a Matsuzakaya department store event and it was delicious, so I bought it for myself. It's a rich matcha jelly or agar that is smooth and melts in your mouth. This is the ultimate softness. The sweetness is also moderate, and I enjoyed it while adjusting the sweetness with the sweet red bean paste. Just as the name suggests, it truly melts in your mouth. It was delicious. This is my first visit. The mitarashi dango had soybean flour on it. It was delicious, and I could taste the flavor of soybean flour. The yomogi dango also had a strong yomogi flavor and was delicious. I could choose between unsweetened and sweetened matcha. The service from the staff was quick.

There is a small bench where you can eat in, which is better than not having one. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy the freshly baked kinako treats. Even without kinako, they are delicious. Personally, I prefer them without kinako. Last time I ordered warabimochi and matcha latte. The warabimochi was quite tasty and perfect for eating on the go. As for the matcha latte, compared to other places, it was a bit watery, but it had a good balance of matcha bitterness and sweetness, making it a great drink for hot summer days.

My favorite dango shop in Kyoto!! I found it at Seikyoto Station Isetan and became a fan, but sometimes they sell out in the evening... I visited a shop along the way to Seibi Arm on a weekend afternoon. It was still quiet because it was still in the morning. Some shops were still empty. Perhaps tourists have not returned to Kyoto yet. This shop was empty, so I decided to go in. I bought three mitarashi dango for 350 yen. They also had warabi mochi, which came with kinako warabi and matcha warabi. The dango was freshly baked and delicious. The warabi mochi was also quite tasty when I ate it back at the inn. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, we took a leisurely stroll around the area and stopped by Fushimi Inari. We enjoyed some mitarashi dango and matcha for a short break. The mitarashi dango at Rakusui (with ice green tea) are freshly grilled with a sweet and savory sauce, sprinkled with kinako. The freshly grilled dango has a delicious aroma that pairs well with the sauce. It's great with kinako too. Highly recommended!

I asked my daughter, who was going to Kyoto for a visit, to bring back some souvenirs. The mitarashi dango was not heated up enough, so it would have been better if it was warmed up a little more. I prefer it slightly burnt as the bitterness is nice. The warabi mochi was quite large, so I had to cut it into smaller pieces for my 4-year-old to eat.

There are other branches around Kiyomizu Temple and even one in Kyoto Isetan. Since it's cold, let's warm up with some hot tea. Oh wait, this is an outdoor seating area! It's freezing! But they have a stove here, so if you stand right in front of it, you can warm up a bit. I bought the mitarashi dango set (600 yen). The warm and chewy dango is delicious. It's small so you can finish it in no time. And the hot tea. I thought it was green tea, but it's actually matcha. That's a bonus point! It goes well with the dango. It's cold, but sitting at the terrace is safe for COVID-19 precautions. I shivered but relaxed comfortably (laughs). A casual and tasty dango set that you can easily stop by for.

After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, I stopped by this shop on my way down Kiyomizu-zaka. They had dango and warabi mochi, but I decided to order a drink - matcha or roasted green tea. Luckily, there weren't many people inside so I was able to sit at a bench in the back and enjoy my drink. It was rich in flavor but easy to drink and very delicious! Later on, the shop got quite crowded and a line quickly formed. It seemed to be a popular spot. Unlike other shops nearby that mainly offered whipped or latte drinks, this shop had a simple tea menu. I would love to come back here again!

This shop is located on the way up the hill to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. They make freshly baked dumplings when you order. The dumplings, slightly burnt on the outside, were delicious. We also had green tea, which added to the Kyoto experience. The shop is always busy with school trips and tourists, giving a sense of returning to everyday life. This shop, located on the tough uphill climb, feels like an oasis. I would definitely want to visit again next time!

The number of foreign tourists is still low, and tourism in Kyoto is quiet and enjoyable seasonally. The stalls near Kiyomizu Temple are still quiet, with many unfortunately closed. I hope that the number of tourists will increase due to the Go To Travel campaign. When I go, I hope it will be quiet (laughs). Ordered item: Mitarashi set 500 yen. I stopped by Fujinami as a rest stop before lunch. The freshly baked Mitarashi dango was superb, with a deliciously crispy exterior and a sweet and savory sauce. However, the blunt attitude of the staff is something that needs to be addressed. Despite the good taste, it's a shame. I hope for improvement in the future.
