I visited Kaneo Kyoto, located about a 7-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall Station, alone on a holiday around 5 pm. It is featured in the travel guidebook "COCOMIRU Kyoto" as an established restaurant since the Meiji era, and indeed, the dignified appearance of the restaurant exuded a sense of tradition. I arrived at 5 pm, just as the evening service was starting, and was seated in a room on the first floor since I was dining alone. The interior was relatively spacious, with various seating options. I ordered the "Chotto Ippuku Osumashi Set" for 2,200 yen, which included a small Kinshi Don, a small Uzaku, Oshinko, and a small Osumashi soup. The Kinshi Don, a specialty of the restaurant, featured a small bowl of rice topped with a large piece of tamagoyaki. The tamagoyaki was thick and paired well with the sweet sauce on the grilled eel. The eel itself was delicious, and I enjoyed adding some sansho pepper for extra flavor. The hot Osumashi soup was flavorful and comforting, with a hint of yuzu fragrance. The pickles were refreshing and complemented the eel bowl nicely. Overall, Kaneo Kyoto impressed me not only with its delicious eel dishes but also with the unique Kinshi Don, featuring a generous portion of tamagoyaki. I highly recommend trying it!

I had unagi donburi at Kaneyo for the first time in a while. It was around 1:30 PM for lunch, and I waited in line for about 30 minutes. The delicate saltiness of the fluffy egg and the taste of the eel sauce create an exquisite harmony. I quickly finished the meal while enjoying a dry sake at room temperature. Delicious! Great atmosphere! I will definitely come back!

Unadon topped with a huge shredded egg Kinshi-don. This was the reason for my visit after a long time. The unsweetened dashimaki tamago and unsweetened eel sauce combination is exquisite, making the rice go down smoothly. The eel is a bit on the smaller side, but the cost performance is good.

I went for lunch. The order took so long to arrive, I waited about 30 to 40 minutes. I wondered if it was because they were grilling eel. However, the amount of eel inside was extremely small. I suspect they are using eggs to increase the volume. The taste was just average, so I won't be coming back.

In Kyoto, there is a famous long-established restaurant called Kyogoku Kaneyo. I was overwhelmed by their Kinshi Donburi! Under the thick layer of egg, there was eel! It was very filling and satisfying. The perfect match of thick egg and eel, along with the eel sauce on the rice, increased my appetite.

Going back to the Meiji era. You can feel the history just from the appearance. The second floor of the shop is a traditional style with tatami mats, low tables, and cushions to sit on. You have to take off your shoes and leave them at the shoe counter before stepping up onto the raised platform. We ordered carp sashimi with beer, and the specialty dish of the restaurant, the "kinshi-don" (top). The kinshi-don is eel topped with a rolled omelette, with a sauce that is not too sweet, creating a light and savory eel bowl. The sauce might lean towards the Kanto style. The eel bowl itself was not particularly delicious, but for those who want to experience the history, this is a recommended restaurant.

I had to go to the super famous restaurant in Kawaramachi! I went on Sunday at 13:15 without a reservation. Of course, I went alone and was seated without waiting, thank you. I really wanted to eat delicious eel until I was full, but oh well, I ended up ordering the Kinshi Don for 3800 yen (there is also a regular size). I waited 15 minutes for it, and then it arrived! Let's dig in. Hmm, the rice is a bit mushy, probably because of the egg blanket on top. Hmm, I guess it's a historical dish, so it's fine. Usually, I prefer firmer rice, so it feels a bit off. Also, there's not much eel compared to the egg. With this amount, the regular size probably has just a tiny bit of eel, so it feels a bit lonely. The restaurant has a historical charm, and it depends on personal taste, but personally, I probably won't come back. However, if you're into trying different eel dishes, I think this place is a must-visit in the west. Thank you for the meal!

I was watching a YouTube video of KANEYO's sales scene the night before. I often visit Kyoto and planned to eat tonkatsu, but I ended up cheating on it with eel. I entered the restaurant smoothly even after lunchtime! The atmosphere was great as usual, I moistened my throat with beer and waited for the arrival of the specialty dish, Kinshi Don. I ordered Kinshi Don (half) with eel on rice and soup set. It's nice to eat a variety of things, isn't it? Oh! Here it comes!! It's time to meet the Kinshi Don! The bowl full of eel and egg, where are you? I lifted the egg with chopsticks and said hello to the eel. Let's eat right away. Huh? The eel sauce seems a bit lacking in flavor. The eel itself is also light and lacking in flavor for someone used to Kanto-style grilled eel. It's a good deal to eat as a set, but I want to taste more eel and enjoy an eel bowl to my heart's content! I felt like I wanted to taste more eel. I want to eat something else a little more, so I'll wander around a bit and go up the lunch ladder (laughs). Thank you for the meal!

Cost performance: 2.0 Ordered item: Kinshi Don (shredded omelette over rice) - medium size, 2,700 yen *Set includes donburi (rice bowl) and pickles, no soup Taste impression: The taste of the egg was weak, and the flavor of the eel and sauce was also faint. Even when I added the sauce on the table, it was a light soy sauce-like sauce, different from the usual thick sauce. Overall, the seasoning was light, and the rice was slightly mushy. I ordered the Kinshi Don, but the flavors were all weak, and I got tired of it halfway through. Atmosphere: The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, with a traditional feel. Crowdedness: I visited around 12:30 on a weekday. I didn't have to wait in line and was able to get a seat. The second floor had many seats, and there were many foreign tourists, more than half of the customers. Overall: I saw the restaurant introduced on YouTube and was interested, so I visited. I was a bit disappointed as my expectations were high. For those who like eel, the taste of the eel kabayaki here is different from the usual, so it's good to keep that in mind when trying it out. Thank you for the meal.

As soon as the restaurant opened, it was very busy, with staff rushing around to serve dishes and clean up after meals. They were moving quickly around the tatami floor, which was a bit unsettling. Overall, it wasn't a very good impression.

The restaurant is famous for its Kinshi Don topped with fluffy rolled omelette. I thought it might be crowded, but I was able to get in easily at 5 pm. - Kinshi Don: I wish the omelette had a stronger flavor, but it depends on personal preference. - Chawanmushi: The broth was flavorful and the texture was very delicious.

I visited the restaurant with high expectations after seeing good reviews online. I lined up before opening and ordered the Kinshi Donburi (regular), Shirayaki, Liver Yakitori, and beer. The beer was brought to the table quickly, followed by the other dishes without much waiting. I was surprised by the speed of service at an eel restaurant, but when I tried the dishes, I was disappointed. The wasabi next to the Shirayaki looked like it came from a tube of commercial wasabi. The eel in the Shirayaki and Kinshi Donburi was thin and the flavors were very weak. The amount of eel was also less than expected for the price. The Liver Yakitori was average. However, the beer was cold and delicious. I had high hopes due to the restaurant's long history, but I felt very disappointed.

I was able to make a reservation by calling one hour before famous Kinshi Don on a Sunday, but they were sold out for walk-ins. It's better to make a reservation before going. Unfortunately, chawanmushi was sold out, which was a shame. The egg was thick and the sauce was delicious. I like eel, but don't have many opportunities to eat it, so I was happy.

After enjoying some sake at Takashimaya's festival, I had an early dinner at Kaneyo-san. I ordered the Kinshi Donburi (small size) and a beer set. When I ordered, I didn't pay much attention, but it felt like there were about two bites of eel hidden under the egg. In other words, it's like a bowl of rice with eel sauce topped with a tamagoyaki. The eel was delicious, but if you want more eel, just order a regular bowl.

This was a restaurant I had been curious about for a while. The impact of the tamagoyaki was impressive, so I had been wanting to try it someday. The tamagoyaki was delicious. The eel was prepared in the Kansai style and didn't suit my taste. However, it wasn't overly sweet. It's an old establishment, and you can feel the history in both the exterior and interior. During this visit to Kyoto, I tried famous soba and udon shops, but they didn't quite hit the spot for me.

The traditional wooden building where shoes were exchanged with a nostalgic ticket number had a charming atmosphere. Some places we visited were aiming for Instagram-worthy shots, but the lunch of eel satisfied our desire for a little luxury and was delicious. The fluffy eggs and thick slices of eel were particularly tasty. The only downside was that soup was not included in the set.

The shop's appearance exudes a sense of tradition, making it hard to resist stopping and taking a look. The Kinshi Donburi with a light dashimaki tamago topping is delicious, and the eel seasoning is light and easy to eat, typical of Kyoto cuisine. The high-quality sansho pepper on the table also had a rich aroma. This was my second visit, and I enjoyed it.

Kyojima Kaneyo @ Matsugaecho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City - Famous for their "Kinshi Donburi" Today, I will be researching a popular eel restaurant that is buzzing on Instagram. It seems that eel cuisine is trending among young business owners, possibly due to a successful M&A in the eel industry in Nagoya. Let's start by checking out the PR on "Tabelog" for the restaurant. Established at the end of the Meiji era, Kyojima Kaneyo is a century-old eel specialty store beloved in Kyojima. You can enjoy their eel dishes in-store or for takeout. This longstanding eel specialty store sources eel mainly from Kyushu and expertly grills it to a soft and fluffy texture. The rich, secret sauce passed down through generations since its establishment enhances the flavor. The popular menu item is the "Kinshi Donburi," which features a Kyoto-style rolled omelet on top of an eel bowl. The retro interior that has remained unchanged since its founding is also a highlight. On the second floor, rakugo performances are held monthly. I arrived just after the lunch opening time of 11:30 am, and guests are being seated one by one, with still some available seats in the restaurant. Once seated, the waiting area is empty. I was guided to a round table separated by acrylic panels. The old-fashioned interior and the traditional uniforms of the staff give a sense of Kyoto's longstanding history. The staff provides attentive service without rushing. For today's research, I decided to try various dishes. I ordered the famous Chawanmushi (800 yen), Uzaku (1,100 yen), Kinshi Donburi (regular 2,800 yen), and Liver Sucking (450 yen). The Chawanmushi arrived first, fluffy and filled with large cuts of chicken, fish cake, and eel. The Uzaku, slightly sweet, was a good choice for me, as the Kinshi Donburi is not sweet. Speaking of which, the Kinshi Donburi impressed me with the eel sauce not being overly sweet, allowing me to enjoy the generous portion. The eel is sourced from Kyushu. The Liver Sucking was also a nice addition. Overall, this restaurant is easy to understand and a good choice for tourists. Kyojima Kaneyo is a long-established restaurant with over 100 years of history! It was about a 10-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station. Even though it was 20 minutes before opening on a holiday, there were already about 30 people lining up, and by the time they opened, there were around 50 people! Truly a famous shop! Luckily, I was able to get in on the first turn. Both the exterior and interior exuded a great atmosphere with a sense of history. Today, I ordered the following: - Kinshi Donburi (Regular) ¥2800 - Grilled Eel Liver ¥450 The Kinshi Donburi was impressive with a large dashimaki that overflowed from the lid! When you lift the lid and peel back the dashimaki, you finally see the eel. It was a half portion as I ordered the regular size. The eel is cooked well and tender thanks to the techniques of the long-established restaurant. The dashimaki has a light Kyoto-style broth with a bit more dashi, which pairs perfectly with the eel and eel sauce. The balance between the eel and dashimaki was about 4:6, with the dashimaki being the star of the Kinshi Donburi. It was an exquisite balance! The Grilled Eel Liver was large, plump, tender, and had been blanched well, with no unpleasant smell. It was delicious, but the broth was a bit light, which made the saltiness slightly stronger. The taste of a true long-established restaurant! It was delicious! Thank you very much for the meal.
