Mokuya-cho "Nikunabe Chiba" On this day, we had a gathering at the famous restaurant "Nikunabe Chiba" on Mokuya-cho Street after a long time. It is a hot pot style restaurant of the famous Kyoto horumon "Chiba" group, not a horumon grill. It is a favorite place of mine, which I have introduced on TV before. You can look for my very bad autograph displayed there. The seating consists of a counter with six seats, two 2-person tables, and two 4-person tables at the back. It is a popular restaurant, so it's better to make a reservation. Those who make a reservation receive an "oden voucher" before ordering as a hospitality gesture. The appetizer is simmered pork belly, cooked for a long time until tender, with a spicy kick of black pepper. This alone is a reason to visit this restaurant. The burdock salad was also included. Beef heart sashimi for 880 yen. A pre-meal raw dish. The beef heart sashimi is tender and slightly thick, which is good. Beef intestines sashimi for 880 yen. Beef intestines go well with chojang. You can eat as much as you want. The thick cuts are nice. This is also tender. Specialty Nikunabe (with meatballs) for 2 people for 4000 yen. And the main dish, Nikunabe. Look at this mountain of meat. Beef and pork belly, horumon, and chaos mixed together. This time, we added meatballs for more meat. The ratio of meat to vegetables is reversed compared to a typical hot pot. In fact, you have to search for the vegetables. It's a peaceful pot where you don't have to fight over the meat. The staff will handle everything for the hot pot, so no need to worry. The white miso soup with the flavor of meat is also delicious. As it gets a bit heavy towards the end, changing the taste with dashi ponzu, Sansho pepper, and shichimi makes it delicious again. The combination with dashi ponzu is especially outstanding. Spicy miso soba for 2 people for 1100 yen. Soba noodles at the end are a must. My recommendation is the spicy miso flavor. Add the special soup to the soup full of meat umami. Once the noodles have absorbed most of the soup, mix in plenty of spicy miso, top with lots of green onions, and it's done! A spicy kick with umami. Even I, who don't like spicy food, couldn't stop eating. Peach and mango with coconut juice A little refreshment at the end. This kind of gesture is delightful. Furthermore, after paying the bill, they even give you mints, showing exceptional hospitality. It's a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious Nikunabe and leave feeling satisfied.
