While enjoying shaved ice, I was considering where to have lunch. There was a restaurant nearby that caught my eye, but I wasn't quite feeling it, so I decided to search again and then I found a place with tuna! It's located in a narrow alley off Sannenzaka, so some people might not notice it. [Order] Tuna bowl Tuna cutlet Bottle of beer (Sapporo Red Star⭐) The tuna bowl is marinated in sauce and served with a soft-boiled egg. It's delicious. The tuna cutlet comes with tartar sauce. On the second day of my trip to Kyoto, it felt like a school field trip revisiting Sanjusangendo, Yo-genin, and then Kiyomizu-dera. Sanjusangendo is so dynamic and impressive, especially the unique faces of the thousand-armed Kannon statues. At Yo-genin, you can see Sotatsu's cedar panel paintings. And then Kiyomizu-dera. It's always crowded no matter when you go, and this time was no exception (laughs). After leaving Kiyomizu-dera, we wondered where to have lunch. We decided to try a highly-rated restaurant that we found online. It's called Shokudo Endo. With Kiyomizu-dera behind us, we walked down Kiyomizu-zaka, turned right, and entered a residential area where the restaurant is located. It's easy to spot with its distinctive red door. It was a little past noon, but luckily a large table was available. The first floor had small and large tables, while the second floor had counter seats. The menu mainly featured tuna bowls with various toppings available. They also offered set meals. I ordered a regular tuna bowl, and my husband ordered the tuna-heavy bowl with extra rice. The interior had a charming antique style. We were served tea in a vintage aluminum teapot. The tuna bowls arrived! They were topped with onsen tamago (soft-boiled egg), almost hiding the rice underneath. The tuna-heavy bowl was even more generous! I was so hungry that I dug in without saying a word. The tuna was marinated in a gochujang sauce, slightly spicy and delicious. It came with miso soup and pickles. It was different from the soy sauce-marinated tuna bowls, and I could see why toppings like avocado would go well with it. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the feast!

Suddenly decided to go to Kyoto in the morning. I called the restaurant that came to mind, but it was fully booked! Well, that's right, you can't underestimate Kyoto, right? Giving up, I thought of finding a place nearby that was available, but then my friend from Kyoto told me on LINE! Grateful! A delicious tuna restaurant near Sannenzaka recommended by Shimizu-san! It was a lucky day on a nice Saturday afternoon, and I was worried if we could get in, but luckily, it was just past 1 pm. The restaurant is located in a residential area, so even though there is a sign, it can be hard to find if you don't know about it. We took off our shoes and sat at the counter on the second floor. Tuna avocado bowl (1200 yen) - A Korean-style spicy sesame oil-scented tuna bowl! The gochujang base makes the rice go down smoothly. The tuna was soft and cut into large pieces. Tuna assorted side dish set meal (1400 yen) - Tuna in sweet and spicy sauce, tuna cutlet, ginger-stewed tuna, pickles, egg tofu soup. The spiciness seemed milder than the tuna bowl. Making your own tuna bowl and enjoying various side dishes with white rice all at once, this set meal is the best. The tuna was of good quality, soft, and delicious. It must be a popular restaurant. After we entered, more and more customers arrived. Since there was a long line outside, we quickly finished our meal and left the restaurant. It's amazing to find such a restaurant in the middle of a touristy city! I would love to visit this place again. Thank you for the meal!

I visited here based on a recommendation. It's a bit off the main street and without a sign, you might not find it. They serve delicious tuna bowls here. After ordering, it was served after a short wait. There was a note saying to eat it quickly without taking too many photos. The tuna bowl was delicious. I finished it in no time. I had the double bowl with lean tuna and seared tuna. I topped it with avocado and sprinkled plenty of chili peppers on top. The chili peppers were not very spicy and added a nice flavor. The sauce was also really delicious. I felt that it was definitely worth stopping by when visiting Shimizu Kankou!

The restaurant on Sanjozaka was like a hidden gem, and the food was delicious! However, there was a little issue that bothered me. I kindly asked the staff to improve, but they repeated the same mistake. When I asked again, a female staff member muttered, "Ugh, so annoying." Customers may not be gods, but this was a bit much. Having rice grains on the outside of the rice bowl was also disappointing. Even though the food was tasty, it was all ruined.

It was a delicious tuna bowl restaurant where the tuna was sliced and seared with a torch after ordering, but it was my fault for not paying attention, it was a Korean-style tuna bowl restaurant!!!!

The seasoning was strong and delicious. The staff was a bit unfriendly. No wet towels provided. Hot tea is available, but there is no water.

Donburi bowls may be the main focus, but the simmered ginger pork is a must-try. Ordering a set meal with plenty of side dishes gives a sense of value, and I highly recommend trying the tuna cutlet with tartar sauce, which is delicious.

The tuna kimchi chili oil rice bowl was so delicious!
