Near Shibuya Police Station, there is a tonkatsu restaurant. With a solemn stone lantern as a landmark, you can descend the stairs to a spacious space reminiscent of a rural warehouse, where you can forget the hustle and bustle of the city. With a history of 60 years, the atmosphere is truly authentic. Today, I ordered the hirekatsu set meal (150g: 2,800 yen). First, a large bowl of crunchy cabbage, pickled radish, and bean sprouts is served. I immediately drizzle yuzu soy dressing over the cabbage, which is delicious. Be careful, as this alone could fill you up. The tonkatsu is fried slowly in low-temperature vegetable oil, taking about 15 minutes. The served hirekatsu has a slightly rare center, oozing with meat juices, whetting the appetite. You can choose green shiso rice, but today I opted for white rice. Additionally, they offer red miso soup, a rarity in the Kanto region. There are two types of sauce, extra spicy and regular, but I started with "Wajima sea salt"… the quality of the meat makes it a perfect match. The combination with the mustard is also excellent. I thought 150g might be too small, but after eating the cabbage, rice, and red miso soup, I was completely satisfied and full. This tonkatsu restaurant in the Shibuya area is without a doubt the best choice. Their specialty, "Hiyashi Katsu Don," has become popular recently. I definitely want to try it next time.
