Arashiyama, after 3 years, has many new and exciting shops. This pickled plum shop can also be found in Gion, Ninen-zaka, and Shijo Street in Kyoto! You can sample and try different pickled plums in the store, and even enjoy some plum kombu tea. It was crowded on the day I visited, so I didn't sample any, but I bought "Ochaji no Koubai" and "Mitsu na Ume" that I had tried before. "Ochaji no Koubai" is small, soft, sweet, and delicious in rice balls or as a tea snack. "Mitsu na Ume" is larger, softer, sweeter than Ochaji no Koubai, and more suitable as a tea snack rather than a side dish. Having delicious pickled plums makes me happy. Thank you for the meal!

Every time I visit Arashiyama in Kyoto, I always stop by this shop. I enjoy buying different products each time and savoring their various flavors. This time, I was drawn to "Washo-san's Hidden Plum" with its comical packaging. The shop offers a variety of products with different salt levels and sweetness, and the staff kindly offer samples and explain the products in detail. It's easy to compare and make a satisfying purchase. The plums are large and just the right size for a late-night snack with a bowl of rice. They have a refreshing honey flavor with just the right balance of saltiness, not too salty or too sweet. I wonder what I'll look for next time? It's always a pleasure. Goodbye.

After breakfast on February 6th, I planned to go river rafting, but unfortunately the snow and my husband's sore back made us cancel the plan. So, I took a leisurely walk around Arashiyama after resting at the hotel for a while. The sound of the river was very soothing. There were quite a few tourists around even in the morning. On the way back, we decided to take a rickshaw ride back to the hotel, which was quite fun even though my husband thought it was a bit pricey. The rickshaw puller was very friendly and took many photos for us. We were lured by the display of umeboshi (pickled plums) and ended up visiting a famous umeboshi shop called "Ousunomura". The staff kindly offered us tea and umeboshi samples to taste. We bought some umeboshi as they were delicious, especially the ones with a hint of kelp. I instructed my husband to eat only one umeboshi a day, so we savor each one carefully. The umeboshi rice seasoning we bought made a great gift for a friend who loved it. I wish we had bought more. The umeboshi were not only tasty but the customer service was excellent at this shop.

It's been about 3 months since I last visited Arashiyama in Kyoto. Even though I've decided to eat eel once every two months. So this time, I celebrated the "Midsummer Day of the Ox" at "Hirokawa" with a late meal, as usual, while waiting for eel at "Ousunosato". This restaurant is really attentive, offering samples of pickled plums and tasting plum juice, providing hospitality to the fullest. I bought a set of "Ume-tsutsumi Kyoto Jiman", which includes three plums: "Kyoto Ichirin", "Kenjo Ume", and "Hougyoku Shin Ume". Normally, I wouldn't be able to buy these, but this is Arashiyama. I keep buying things here. I repeat this not to maintain a sense of identity, but because it's delicious. Looking at the excessive packaging, I wonder, "Isn't this too elaborate for just one plum?" But the staff probably have an answer ready, something like, "It's a question we hope you'll ask." They package it this way because they understand the taste of these pickled plums. It may seem comical, but they want everyone to be satisfied. "Satisfied". Alright then.

When it comes to Ousunomura, it's a popular shop known for its slightly sweet pickled plums and plum-based products. When I visited Arashiyama, I found a store there and decided to go in. They offered samples of their famous plums and various plum-based pickles to try. In the end, I bought the bonito-flavored plum cucumbers and the crunchy pickles. The bonito-flavored plum cucumbers were mild and easy to eat, with a light sourness. The crunchy pickles also had a subtle flavor with bonito flakes added. They had a good variety of products, making it perfect for buying as souvenirs.

This shop offers a variety of plum flavors. Each plum costs around 300 yen, but they are very delicious. They are not too sour, with just the right amount of sweetness, so you can eat as many as you want. They also sell plum jam and plum wine, making it fun just to browse. The packaging is stylish, making it a perfect gift.

This is a souvenir shop near Arashiyama Station on the Randen line. I was looking for something other than just sweet souvenirs, so I decided to stop by. They let you sample inside the store, which is great because it's hard to buy just based on the packaging. I like sweet pickled plums, so I tried about 3-4 different kinds. They also offered me plum juice and plum kelp tea as a palate cleanser. Everything was delicious, but in the end, I chose "Joushuu Shiro" made from Kyoto plums for 1,495 yen. When I tried it at home, I found it to be thick and satisfying to eat, with the skin being fairly soft and tasty. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

When I go to Kyoto, I always make sure to stop by this place with a decent probability. They sell umeboshi (pickled plums) for 500 yen, 1000 yen, and 500 yen respectively. I buy them as souvenirs. There are various types available, and they even let you sample them little by little. My real goal is the crushed umeboshi. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't. If the timing is right, I can get it. I'll go back when I run out of umeboshi again (•́✧•̀)

There are various types of pickled plums lined up in the store. It's difficult to choose. I prefer the ones with low salt content and honey. I couldn't decide, so I bought a compact set of four. Yae no Ume has a flavor of shiso and bonito, perfect with rice. Ochaji no Ume has low salt content, perfect for tea. Shiroju no Ume is mixed with small garlic cloves, plum meat, and bonito. Gakyo Ume is large and has a good balance of saltiness and acidity, goes well with rice. Among these, I think "Ochaji no Ume" is my favorite. It's perfect for onigiri or ochazuke.

I stopped by on my way back from sightseeing in Kyoto. Honestly, I didn't plan on buying anything, but I ended up making a purchase because I was able to try various samples. There were umeboshi (pickled plums) in the store that cost over 500 yen each, which may seem a bit expensive to some, but I highly recommend trying them even if you feel that way. The staff was very polite and there was a wide variety of products, so you are sure to find something that suits your taste. If you happen to be nearby, I recommend stopping by as the atmosphere is welcoming and it's easy to ask for samples. I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area. Thank you very much.

I visited this shop for the first time, and was surprised to find the same shop after moving to Shijo. The store had a beautiful and calming interior, and the customer service was very polite. I didn't plan on buying anything, but ended up wanting to purchase something. I was able to sample a variety of products and received detailed explanations, which left me satisfied. The flavors ranged from mild to strong, and all were delicious, making it difficult to choose. Although it's not cheap, I was very satisfied with my purchase.
