Before visiting the Heian Shrine, I had lunch at this restaurant. I had the Teoke bento and Hidaka-mi. The Teoke bento had a variety of dishes in small portions, perfect for enjoying slowly with some sake. Reservations were only available for 11:30 or 13:00, and I had to wait outside in the scorching sun as I arrived 15 minutes early. It would have been better if they allowed us to come a bit earlier since there were plenty of empty seats.

It is located near Heian Shrine. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff were very nice. There were various dishes in the hand bucket, which was enjoyable to look at and the taste was good. The local beer was also delicious. It is a restaurant that I would like to visit again.

I visited for lunch and saw in the reviews that it's better to make a reservation, so I called the day before to reserve. I reserved for one person, so they said I might be seated at the counter, but they actually guided me to a table. Each dish was carefully made and elegant, very delicious. It was a bit pricey for a solo lunch, but I thought it was worth it considering the atmosphere and service included in the price.

During lunchtime on a holiday, the restaurant was crowded before and after the Kyocera live performance by a popular idol group, but we were able to get in without a reservation in about 30 minutes! We ordered a bento box with an additional side dish. It was a tough choice, but I chose the seasonal vegetable tempura for the side dish! The tempura made with white shrimp, which is only available for a short period in spring, was absolutely delicious and I could have eaten it endlessly! The main bento box was also delicious, with each dish showing the careful handiwork put into it. It was a comforting taste of traditional Japanese cuisine. I would love to visit this restaurant again when I go to Kyoto ❤️

The menu included: - Watercress and fried tofu salad - Rolled omelette - Saikyo-style grilled black cod - Grilled chicken with salt koji - Simmered tiger prawn, daikon radish, small taro, sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin, and gluten - Simmered snow peas - Simmered winter shiitake mushrooms - Simmered cod roe - Sea urchin and jellyfish - Tender simmered octopus - Yuzu miso-filled raw gluten wrapped in bamboo leaves - Seasonal fruits (strawberries that day) - Seasonal rice (probably crab rice) - Yuba red miso soup - Pickled vegetables

Lunch on Respect for the Aged Day ☆彡 I'm really looking forward to this trip, which is the first in 3 years. In the morning, I went to see the autumn leaves at Tofukuji Temple. For lunch, we went to Rokusei near Heian Jingu Shrine. There were about 100 people in total, so choosing a lunch spot is always a challenge. But this time, we were relieved to hear that they also host wedding receptions. We were seated in a large room with tatami mats and chairs, which made the elderly feel comfortable. The specialty at Rokusei is the teoke bento, which is served in buckets made by the Living National Treasure, Kiyoshi Nakagawa. The bento box was filled with various dishes like simmered octopus, soft-boiled pumpkin, and delicious grilled fish. The rice was chestnut rice, and we also had red miso soup with yuba. The variety and quality of the food made us want to visit again. I think it's a good deal and I'd love to come back for a leisurely meal.

Before going to the Kyocera Museum, we had lunch here. The view from the window was lovely. The restaurant was very impressive and the interior was spacious and comfortable. We had a bento box with Kyoto cuisine served in an elegant wooden bucket, called the "te wo ke bento". I think this is a great place to experience a taste of Kyoto while sightseeing.

I used this restaurant for lunch with a friend before going to see the "Pompeii Exhibition" at the Kyocera Museum of Art. I ordered the Teoké bento box for 3000 yen and a glass of cold sake from Sawaya Matsumoto for 525 yen (both prices excluding tax). We visited in June, and the details are as shown in the menu photos. It was a weekday, but the place was quite popular with customers coming in one after another. After visiting the museum, we planned to have some sweets, so the portion size was just right for us at this time, but it might be a bit small for the price... (the taste was delicious though ♡). I don't often have the chance to visit Kyoto during hydrangea season, so the view of the hydrangeas from the window was beautiful ^_^.

I visited a long-established restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is very spacious. I ordered the te-oke bento with an additional dish. For the additional dish, I could choose from sashimi, ayu tempura, or Kamo eggplant dengaku. The te-oke bento had a strong dashi flavor and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The ayu tempura was unusual but tasty. I also tried a bite of the Kamo eggplant dengaku, which was soft and delicious.

I made a reservation in advance and arrived at 11:30. Even though I arrived a little early, the place was already full with reservations. I think reservations are essential. I was nervous visiting alone as a woman, but I appreciate the various considerations given to me. I had reserved the Teoké bento with a luxurious dish (grilled Omi beef on a ceramic plate). The flavors were delicate and gentle. I was able to enjoy a luxurious moment. The service was also wonderful.

Absolutely 5.0‼️ I had a fantastic time in Kyoto with authentic Kyoto cuisine. The restaurant is a bit away from Kyoto Station, so there were only about 2 groups of customers including myself, allowing for a quiet and enjoyable dining experience. Even though it was raining outside from our window seat, we could see the beautifully lit garden. The dishes, made with seasonal ingredients and steamed in bamboo, were not only delicious but also visually stunning. The coffee jelly dessert we had was chewy and had a unique deliciousness that I had never experienced before. I would love to know the recipe‼️

Next to Heian Jingu Shrine is a long-established Kyoto cuisine restaurant. If you're looking for a lunch bento, the threshold for us commoners isn't too high, right? We made a reservation for 11:30 when the restaurant opened. There are a few parking spaces in the basement of the restaurant, and we were able to park since we arrived early. The road in front and the underground passage are quite narrow, so please be careful when driving! The beautifully arranged colorful Kyoto cuisine is served in a handmade bucket by a living national treasure, accompanied by red miso soup and seasonal rice. In March, it was rice with burdock leaves. We also ordered additional dishes of white fish and spring vegetables tempura, served with warabi, taranome, young bamboo shoots, and the slight bitterness of white fish with salt. It was delicious! The rice with burdock leaves had a wonderful aroma and was very tasty. The bucket also included simmered vegetables, rolled omelet, and grilled fish with miso, each meticulously prepared with a subtle yet satisfying seasoning. The exquisite flavors were fantastic. The menu may change monthly. Please see the menu content in the photo. Local residents seemed to have pre-ordered their bento and came to pick them up. The restaurant may have many tourists, but we were satisfied with the elegant and delicious lunch we had.

In the middle of October, on the last day of a nationwide business trip (11th day). It was the final day, but all I had to do was return to Saitama. However, before that, a friend who lives in Ashiya said he was going to the "Kyocera Museum of Art" to see the exhibition "Modern Architecture in Kyoto" and invited me to join him. I enjoy classical buildings too, so I agreed to go with him. This friend is a senior colleague from my time working in Osaka, as mentioned in previous logs. Despite being two years ahead of me, we have always been close, and after retirement we made a promise to start a social venture together with our spouses. The plan is already well-developed and ready to start. He is one of my dearest friends. After enjoying the history of the changing buildings in Kyoto, which I had thought of as an old city, we had lunch at a nearby restaurant recommended by his wife. That place was "Rokusei". The unique appearance of the mansion-like exterior was impressive, and the cozy atmosphere was perfect for the famous "Teoke Bento". His wife had made a reservation for us, but we added an extra dish once we arrived. It was called "Teoke Bento and Hitoshina" (4,290 yen). We chose the seasonal "Dobinmushi" from the five options available. The "Teoke Bento" was literally a variety of dishes served in a "hand bucket", with each dish having a delicate and delicious Kyoto-style flavor. Although there was no standout dish, it felt like we were eating the refined and delicious "Shokado Bento". The Dobinmushi in the "Hitoshina" set, despite not expecting much from the additional charge (990 yen), was delicious with a flavorful broth and not only matsutake mushrooms but also conger eel, satisfying our taste buds. This restaurant has been in business for over 120 years. The "hand bucket" itself was created by a Living National Treasure. It was a wonderful bento from a Kyoto-like restaurant with something special in every detail.

Every year, I visit Heian Jingu Shrine for Hatsumode, but this year, to avoid crowds, I visited Rokujo-san on the 10th for Hatsumode. I parked my car in the underground parking lot and entered the restaurant. We were seated by the window with a view of the river and ordered the Te-oke bento box and crab kankake chawanmushi. My partner ordered the winter vegetable yuba ankake. While waiting with a warm cup of tea, our beautifully arranged Te-oke bento box was served after about 10 minutes. Since it was January, it was like osechi cuisine. It had chestnut sweet potatoes in the middle, as well as yellowtail and kazunoko. There were plenty of vegetables, which seemed good for the body. However, the seasoning was a bit weak overall, and the flavors didn't come through as much as expected. The kazunoko and sea urchin inside were delicious. A while later, another dish was brought to our table. The crab chawanmushi had a flavorful broth with plenty of crab and was quite delicious. The yuba ankake my partner had was subtly flavored. It felt slightly overpriced, but it was still a tasty lunch today. Afterward, we were allowed to visit the shrine while leaving our car parked in the lot.

We visited the restaurant with a friend without a reservation after 3 pm. We were very happy to finally visit this place we had been interested in for a while! We took a taxi to the front of the store, and even though we were outside, the staff opened the door for us and guided us inside. We were surprised by how incredibly kind they were! We had a handcrafted bento box and matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot. Since these were not things we usually eat, we enjoyed trying them out! We also had beer and had a very elegant time. We definitely want to go back again!

My parents-in-law asked me to make a lunch reservation somewhere, so I researched to find a reliable restaurant and ended up choosing "Rokusei". The restaurant had a very classy atmosphere and the food was delicious. However, my mother-in-law's shishito pepper tempura was extremely spicy, and the pumpkin was almost raw. When we ordered souffle afterwards, it took quite a long time to arrive, which was tiring. The taste was good though. It was great that the restaurant was accessible by car.

This is a shop located along the Takase River, next to Heian Shrine in Okazaki, Kyoto. It seems to have relocated here in the late Showa period. During lunch in Kyoto, the conversation turned to what defines a Kyoto-style bento. It was concluded that the bento featured on the packaging of Kyoto sweets "otabe," illustrated by Hirotsugu Ooba, represents the quintessential Kyoto bento. Unable to find images of old bento, the decision was made to visit Rokusei, a famous shop known for its teoke bento. The shop has a convenient parking lot, and the staff skillfully guides visitors. The teoke bento, which is smaller than expected, is elegantly arranged. The teoke itself is a work of a famous artisan. The meal includes seasonal dishes, such as corn soup, conger eel rice, pumpkin and taro stew, and simmered octopus. The meal also features flower-shaped wheat gluten and yuzu miso, which adds a refreshing touch to the summer meal. Although the uni and jellyfish dish, a specialty of the shop, was not particularly outstanding, the pickled vegetables were delicious. The traditional Kyoto atmosphere of the restaurant is further enhanced by the serene and spacious tatami rooms. Overall, the meal captured the essence of Kyoto's summer.

I wanted to eat Kyoto cuisine, so the atmosphere was also nice. The presentation was luxurious and delicious, but it's definitely a taste for adults. I felt like I've grown up to be able to appreciate this kind of food. The plating was beautiful, and I enjoyed the visual aspect as well.

There is a desire to enjoy Kyoto cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, and after careful selection, I chose Rokusei. It was a traditional restaurant suitable for the New Year's Day on January 2, 2020. I visited without a reservation and arrived at 12:15. Fortunately, there was a table available, and I was seated promptly thanks to the staff's consideration. By 1:00, the restaurant was fully booked with reservations, and when I went to the lobby after finishing my meal, there were about 20 customers waiting. It is best to make a reservation about 3 days in advance. If you plan to visit without a reservation, it is best to arrive before 12:00 PM. As for the main topic, I ordered a bento box with hand-picked ingredients and Omi beef teppanyaki, along with 2 bottles of Asahi beer, costing a little over 7000 yen per person. The seasoning was light but the flavors were rich, true to the reputation of a traditional restaurant with over 120 years of history. Asahi beer with its sharp taste paired perfectly with such elegant Kyoto cuisine. I refrained from sake as I had plans to visit three shrines later. After the meal, I visited Heian Shrine near the restaurant and received a Goshuin stamp. It was a wonderful experience to be able to share a healing time in such a magnificent space. Thank you for presenting us with dishes that embody the three key elements of delicious food: quality ingredients, creativity, and sincerity. Thank you for the feast today. I am very satisfied.

The restaurant located along the Rokusei Aqueduct in Okazaki, famous for its teoke bento, has a hotel-like appearance. The excellent customer service typical of Rokusei makes it a pleasant experience to dine there. The specialty teoke bento is like a collection of delicious Kyoto cuisine in one box, and every dish is satisfying and delicious. It was a high-quality lunch experience!
