Today, I stopped by a delicatessen shop located in the area below Higashitoin Takoyakushi, called "MARDELI."
MARDELI specializes in selling takeout side dishes, commonly known as a "delicatessen." It is said to be the sister store of "MARU CAFE" near Gojo Kawaramachi, which is a shop I personally like, so I had high expectations when entering the store.
Inside the store, there were various side dishes lined up, and it seems like you can choose your favorite deli and toppings. I received a pamphlet, which mentioned that the main items were the "Salad Deli BOX," consisting of three types of deli and salad, and the "5 Deli BOX," where you can choose five deli items. This time, I opted for the "Salad Deli BOX."
I went through the process of selecting the salad dressing, toppings, and main deli one by one. First, I chose the "Komatsuna Genovese" dressing from six salad dressings. Next, I selected three toppings from nine options: tricolor tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, and boiled egg rouge. Lastly, I chose three main deli items from a wide variety, with the help of the staff's recommendation.
After a short wait in the store, I received a stylishly packed box to take home. I decided to taste it at home.
The Salad Deli BOX was very colorful and had a substantial volume, enough to make you feel full just by eating it! I started by tasting the main deli items.
- Kabu and Salmon Mousse: A salmon mousse with a hint of spice, complemented by the crunchy texture of kabu. Eating it with consomme jelly, the consomme flavor blended well with the mousse.
- Roast Ham with Duxelles Sauce: Four slices of ham topped with solid duxelles sauce. Enjoying it with baguette provided a satisfying eating experience.
- Pumpkin Salad Halloween Ver.: A smooth salad with a mixture of pumpkin and purple sweet potato paste. The flavor of the purple sweet potato was slightly strong. I enjoyed it with the chewy texture of rice paper and pumpkin seeds.
Next, I combined the salad and shiitake mushrooms, thoroughly mixing them with the Genovese dressing. The colorful display of three types of mini tomatoes was beautiful. The boiled egg, colored naturally with beetroot pigment, was a nice touch.
I was surprised by the variety of vegetables in the box, feeling like I had a bountiful harvest of vegetables. It was like a lunch box filled with plenty of vegetables.
