Great location, and the motsunabe (offal hot pot) and garlic were amazing! I was also impressed by the zosui (rice porridge) at the end! ✨

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto. I felt really cold, so I was in the mood for a hot pot. I immediately thought of Kamehachi Honten! Recently, I've been hearing more and more about "Kyoto motsu-nabe" and I think Kamehachi was the pioneer of that. Kamehachi is a super popular restaurant, so you have to make reservations well in advance during the winter. I took this opportunity with the cold weather and went right when they opened. The food was delicious as always. I've ordered from them online recently due to COVID, but eating at the restaurant with beer is the best. Their Kyoto motsu-nabe has a white miso base with offal and pork belly that melts into a flavorful and rich broth. It's perfect for sipping and goes great with drinks. I enjoyed every last bite, and it left me wanting to go back a few more times this winter.

A Kyoto restaurant serving motsunabe (tripe hot pot) located in a quiet alley in Kiyamachi. The small and quaint interior adds to the charm of the place. We ordered the motsunabe course, which includes all-you-can-drink. First up was the shime saba (marinated mackerel), which was incredibly delicious! The thickness of the mackerel was impressive. Next came the salad, followed by horse sashimi, which was also great! It had no unpleasant smell and was light yet flavorful. Finally, the motsunabe arrived, with miso-flavored soup filled with cabbage, leeks, and plenty of tripe. The presentation was impressive! The miso soup was light, allowing the ingredients to shine. The star of the dish, the tripe, was thick and tender, making it easy to eat as much as you want. An ultimate delicacy!

First time trying motsunabe! The appetizer was seared mackerel, which was incredibly delicious. This time, I ordered the restaurant's specialty white motsunabe. The light miso flavor paired perfectly with the rich flavor of Omi beef offal. I couldn't resist and ended up drinking more and more of the broth. The ultimate noodles for the finish were tasty, but I overate and put a strain on my body. 😅

I tried the cod roe and motsu hot pot for the first time! The harmony between the soup and cod roe was incredibly delicious, and the addition of the soft and chewy motsu took it to a whole new level. The noodles at the end, with motsu, pork belly, and crispy pork fat, made me feel like I got a great deal.

The appetizer was smoked mackerel, which is great for mackerel lovers. The motsu nabe was delicious with tender motsu and tasty vegetables. The soup was the classic white miso, sweet and mellow. The famous Aotani plum wine from Kyoto tasted like plum syrup.

I always go to this recommended restaurant by the rickshaw driver during cherry blossom season every year since 2020! Everything I eat there is delicious and I always end up ordering too much! Personally, the motsunabe (offal hot pot), shibazuke (pickled vegetables), motsuyaki (grilled offal), and chijimi (Korean pancake) are really tasty! For motsunabe, I enjoy it with additional offal, pork belly, chicken thighs, and extra vegetables to savor it twice. The rich flavors from the meat and vegetables in the broth, along with the ultimate noodles, make for a satisfying meal. If there's room in my stomach, I always finish with the zosui (rice porridge)!! The taste may vary, but the white one was the most delicious. The seafood chijimi had a crispy exterior and chewy interior with a good portion size. As for the motsuyaki... I have no words. You just have to go there and taste it yourself!!! It's simply exquisite!

In winter, I always crave Kamehachi's motsunabe. I always go for the white miso broth. The grilled mackerel served as an appetizer is also delicious. The side dishes are also tasty, so it's a dilemma whether to order a motsunabe for everyone and risk overeating. This time, I tried the cheese chijimi for the first time, and it was also delicious!

I made a reservation at this elegant restaurant in a nice atmosphere in Ponto-cho and felt like I was able to fully enjoy Kyoto. The motsunabe (tripe hot pot) was incredibly delicious! This is a popular restaurant so making a reservation is a must. It's a perfect place for a date! ♡

I read somewhere a while ago that Kyoto's motsunabe (tripe hot pot) is famous, so I decided to try it at a random restaurant. It was actually really delicious! However, I didn't really feel the Kyoto vibe in it haha. Thank you for the meal!

This was my first time trying the Kyoto-style motsunabe, and the egg rice porridge at the end was delicious. The thick and chewy texture of the motsu, combined with the flavorful broth that seeped out from the motsu and cabbage, topped with fluffy egg, made for a speedy and satisfying meal. The motsu was mild yet rich, which was a new experience for me. There were various options and additions available, but I decided to try it as is first, which turned out to be the right choice. The seating on the second floor in the tatami room was cozy, and the close proximity to other customers added to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

This is a restaurant in Pontocho, Kyoto, exuding the atmosphere of Kyoto. The small alleyways are filled with the charm of Kyoto. The interior of the restaurant is enveloped in the world of an old Kyoto house, creating a fantastic atmosphere. The service is warm, friendly, and creates a comfortable environment. The appetizer, "smoked mackerel from Aomori Prefecture," was truly impressive! It was incredibly delicious! The main dish, motsu nabe, is rich and smooth, with a refreshing aftertaste. The Omi beef motsu has zero odor, and the texture is irresistible! Even the rice porridge at the end was impressive. It was a fantastic restaurant where you would want to bring someone special.

White miso motsu nabe, consistently delicious. Suntory Jin "Midori" soda mix drink pairs very well with motsu nabe. The 3980 yen course with salad (pork cold shabu-shabu) and smoked mackerel for closing are also delicious. While waiting for the motsu nabe to be prepared, I had three beers with those two dishes! It's a taste that makes you want to eat it regularly♪

At first, I always went to the mountain lodge for motsunabe, but the taste is completely different at this restaurant! Kamehachi's motsunabe is light and refreshing. I tried the white and yellow versions. For the finale, I had the yellow one with cheese risotto. It was so creamy and delicious. Also, the cheese chijimi was very tasty.

I went out for dinner with friends♡ There were so many different types of motsunabe to choose from, but we decided to go with the classic white motsunabe! The toppings menu was extensive and there were plenty of side dishes to choose from, which was great♬ The motsunabe had a rich and flavorful taste! The motsu was nice and chewy♡ Vegetables are always delicious in motsunabe! The assorted horse sashimi was also very generous in portion! The chijimi was a gooey type. The staff were cheerful and friendly, which left a good impression! They had air purifiers for COVID-19 measures, but there were no dividers between tables or private rooms, so if you are concerned, it might be better to wait until things settle down. There was no parking available, so we parked at a nearby coin parking lot. It cost us 2400 yen for about 2 hours, so if you are price-conscious, I recommend parking a bit further away.

This time, I had to cancel my reservation at my usual restaurant due to a close contact situation, so I finally got the chance to visit this place in Kyoto that my friend always recommended. I went with a close business associate and we ordered a course menu along with some a la carte items. Here is what we had: - Complimentary appetizer (smoked mackerel) - Cold shabu salad - Motsunabe (white miso) with motsu, cabbage, bean sprouts, etc. - Shime ramen (not included in the course menu) - Mino pon squid - Dried squid - Sweet vinegar marinated white shrimp - Additional order of motsunabe (white miso) The total came to 17,000 yen. The motsunabe with white miso had a strong sweetness and was delicious without being too greasy. However, the taste of hot pot dishes can be subjective, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. There are also curry-flavored and soy sauce options available. Some notable points and the reason for my 3.5-star rating are as follows: - The quality of the seafood, including the complimentary smoked mackerel, was excellent. - The dried squid from Aomori's Fukaura region was thick and chewy, providing a satisfying texture. - The giant white shrimp marinated in sweet vinegar, which I have never seen in restaurants in Toyama, was a delightful surprise. Thank you for the meal!

When you think of motsunabe, you might imagine something rich and heavy, but this motsunabe is surprisingly light with a refreshing aftertaste. It's relatively easy to eat and has a smooth flavor. The only downside is that the motsu pieces are on the smaller side. They also offer other dishes besides motsunabe, like horse sashimi, so you can enjoy a variety of options.

The original Kyoto motsunabe is a shop where they share a lot of knowledge about their dishes. The motsu (offal) is firm and elastic, using only carefully selected intestines from Omi beef, so the fat is just right. The harmony with Kyoto's special broth is outstanding, with the refreshing taste of Kyoto white miso and the richness of the motsu creating a beautiful trio. The finale of the meal was perfect with Kamehachi's ultimate noodles. We ordered everything separately, starting with the Aomori smoked mackerel appetizer, followed by a platter of three types of horse sashimi, Kamehachi's special chijimi, and the pride of the restaurant, the motsunabe with white miso. The motsu used is carefully selected Omi beef intestines, which have a different sweetness and umami. The soup woven from Kyoto ginjo sake and traditional Kyoto dashi with bonito and kelp was rich and nourishing, warming us from the core and giving us energy.

During this time, I had a hard time getting a reservation and was rejected multiple times when I called. But guess what! When I happened to pass by and asked just in case, they said it was okay! So I went for the first time! Of course, I had high expectations for the Kyoto motsu hotpot with a Kyoto dashi base!! You can order courses with all-you-can-drink options as well. The hotpot came out quickly, but I didn't really need the horse sashimi, haha. The hotpot was too light and lacked a punch, but when I added garlic, it became really delicious ✨ Maybe there are a lot of tourists visiting? I've always wanted to try motsu hotpot, especially since it's called Kyoto motsu hotpot, so I guess they focus on the broth...

I had been curious about this restaurant for a while but couldn't get a reservation. However, I decided to try calling on a weekday evening and luckily they had availability for 6:00 that same day! The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere with red lanterns in the alley and a small interior, perfect for lovers of izakaya. The seared mackerel with spicy mayo was delicious with just the right amount of oil and a smoky aroma. The horse sashimi platter was my first time trying it and the sweet soy sauce from Kyushu paired perfectly with the refreshing taste of the horse meat. The motsunabe (white miso) was recommended as a specialty dish, and it was indeed a classic flavor. The dish had plenty of ingredients like burdock, bean sprouts, cabbage, leeks, and lots of tripe in a white miso base with a slightly sweet seasoning, making it easy to eat. According to my friend, the taste was more approachable than the typical motsunabe and a great introduction for beginners. The staff were attentive and provided excellent service with a friendly and polite demeanor. I would definitely like to visit again!

It has been quite some time, but I was taken to enjoy motsunabe (offal hot pot) in Kyoto for dinner, and we visited Kamehachi restaurant! It is located on a side street in Pontocho, about a 5-minute walk from Sanjo Station or Kawaramachi Station. First, we had the smoked mackerel as an appetizer, which I really enjoyed dipping in mayonnaise for a smooth taste. We ordered the Kyoto motsunabe "shiro" (white) for 1,280 yen per person. The broth is made with kombu and bonito, combined with white miso from Kyoto and uses offal from Omi beef. The ingredients included tofu, cabbage, bean sprouts, leeks, and beef offal, keeping it simple yet delicious. The white miso broth was light, creamy, and easy to drink, which went perfectly with beer. We also ordered the Chanja for 450 yen, which had a slightly spicy kick and a crunchy texture. The recommended seared Omi beef offal for 780 yen had a unique chewy texture and a delicious sauce that made it quite addictive. I would like to try the red or yellow motsunabe next time, so I hope to visit again someday!

It's been a while. We had guests from Shikoku, so I made a reservation over a month ago for a Kyoto-style motsunabe, fitting for the season. In the past, you had to wait in line to eat here, but now it seems you can also make reservations online. Personally, I'm not sure about the sweet motsunabe, but I guess it's good for visitors from far away.
