It's Sunday lunch time... I went with my wife to search for a restaurant around Odori Park. We visited "Hakata motsunabe Yamaya Sapporo Ekimaedori Store." At the entrance, we had to order and pay in advance. Although they also serve motsunabe (tripe hot pot) for lunch, I have been accustomed to the one from "Ooyama" since a friend shared it with me, so I decided to try something else. For lunch, they offered a daily special "nameko mushroom stew set for 1,300 yen" and a grilled fish set with "grilled saffron cod for 1,300 yen." Both dishes were served in about 7 minutes. I tried a bit of my wife's nameko mushroom stew set... The ingredients included shiitake mushrooms, konjac, bamboo shoots, carrots, chicken, burdock, and others. The flavor was not too strong, and it went well with rice. The set included the main dish, rice, miso soup, salad, and simmered burdock. They also offered all-you-can-eat mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and pickled mustard greens for free. They provided dashi for ochazuke (tea poured over rice) as well. Although the initial price was a bit high, if you eat a lot, the overall cost performance is not bad. The miso soup contained seaweed and wheat gluten, with a mild saltiness and a natural dashi flavor. The rice was a bit firm inside, and the quality of the rice was not the best. The grilled saffron cod seemed to be reheated after grilling, with a slightly tough texture compared to freshly grilled fish. The salad included leafy greens and potato salad, which was average. The pickled mustard greens were suitable for ochazuke. The mentaiko was a signature dish, with a light flavor but a strong umami taste, and its natural, transparent color without artificial coloring enhanced its deliciousness. I got a half portion of rice for a refill, poured the dashi from the pot, and although the dashi was lightly flavored and lacked a strong dashi taste, it paired well with the mentaiko and mustard greens. The mentaiko was delicious, but excluding motsunabe, the other lunch menu items seemed mediocre. Thank you for the meal.
