Located just a few minutes' walk from Shimokitazawa Station, the "Former Yam Residence - Shimokita Villa" is a popular curry restaurant that is always bustling with people. This restaurant originated in Osaka and now has several branches in both Kanto and Kansai regions. During lunchtime, guests need to write their names down in a notebook, while during dinnertime, guests can enter in order of lining up. I visited during dinnertime on a weekday, and even then there was a line. The menu offers three types of monthly keema curry, which you can order as a two-curry set (1,150 yen) or a three-curry set (1,350 yen). This month's keema curry includes unique varieties such as Chinese medicinal herb chicken keema, miso cheese pork keema, and balsamic vinegar beef and pork keema, with even longer names in reality due to the multiple ingredients used. Each keema curry fully showcases the characteristics of the ingredients and is incredibly delicious. Despite the popularity of this restaurant, it is worth waiting in line as it is a truly exceptional dining experience.

I visited Shimokitazawa after a long time because I heard it's famous for curry. I found a highly-rated curry restaurant on Tabelog and decided to check it out. The restaurant was located one street away from the main street and had a charming exterior. When I arrived around 6 pm, there was only one group ahead of me, so I only had to wait for about 10 minutes before being seated. The interior was cozy with only 10 seats, but it had a unique and stylish atmosphere. The curry menu changes monthly, and for September, there were three options: - Wenzhou orange, celery, and chutney with wood ear mushroom squid ink chicken keema curry - Potato taro subzi on top, pickled taro and cabbage sour pork keema curry - Red ginger green harissa with pork belly napa cabbage tagine-style beef and pork keema curry You could choose to have all three curry options for 1,450 yen or two for 1,250 yen, with a choice of brown rice, turmeric rice, or jasmine rice. I ordered the all three options with turmeric rice and also tried the mackerel pickles (250 yen). After a few minutes of waiting, the long-awaited curry arrived. The three curries were served on a bed of turmeric rice. The flavors were authentic and full of spices. While all three were keema curries, the taste was quite complex. Personally, it wasn't my favorite, although it was undeniably delicious. There was also a yam curry soup served on the side, which you could pour over the curry to make it like soup curry. I preferred it this way. The mackerel pickles added a nice touch with its tangy flavor. They also had reasonably priced alcoholic drinks for around 400-500 yen, so I recommend trying them with the curry. This curry place seems to have a strong focus on authenticity, so fans of real spice curries will definitely enjoy it. Since they change their curry monthly, I'd love to try different flavors next time.

There is no need for introductions to the famous Osaka spice curry restaurant, "Kyuyamuntei." The curry here has a unique flavor that makes you crave it occasionally. The naming of the curries is also quite distinctive, with choices like Warm Wenzhou Orange and Celery Chutney with Wood Ear and Squid Ink Chicken Keema, Potato Taramasalata Subji, and more. The options are so unique that it's hard to imagine the flavors until you try them. You can choose to have the curry with brown rice. The amount of information provided is always abundant, and it's hard to determine how each combination of curries will taste until you try them. The flavors are beyond my imagination, making it hard to put into words, but I believe they are delicious. My favorite dish is in the second half of the menu. The Yam curry soup that comes separately tastes overpowering on its own, but when poured over the curry, it transforms into a delicious broth curry. It's a creative concept that allows you to enjoy two different flavors in one meal. For dessert, I recommend trying the Ice Masala Chai, served in a cold ceramic bowl for a touch of elegance. The final touch to an Indian curry meal. Unfortunately, the recipe for the Yam curry soup cannot be shared, but I've heard that the ingredients vary between Osaka and Tokyo. Kyuyamuntei is constantly evolving, which explains the long queues.

I went to the restaurant around 11 am on the weekend, and waited for about 15 minutes for the second slot at 12 pm. I ordered three types of curry and lassi. The curries were authentic and original. The chicken keema with wood ear mushrooms was a unique and delicious flavor that I had never tried before. Thank you for the meal.

Started the day with a note-taking session, scoring 1200 points. Even though we arrived at 1220, we were quickly served a set of three different curries. The curries were rich in spices and full of originality, so opinions may vary. Out of the four of us, one person didn't like it much. Two people gave it high praise, while one person thought it was okay. That's probably the general feeling. The turmeric rice paired perfectly with the flavorful curries. Perhaps jasmine rice would have been good too. The lassi was sweet, and the hot chai allowed you to adjust the sweetness yourself, both were delicious. With the menu changing monthly, it's clear that there are many regular customers.

I ordered the "Zensai" curry, which was served with all three types this month with various flavors. Compared to the previous Yamu, the curry here is not inferior at all - in fact, it's incredibly delicious! The curry is unique with a balance of spices and acidity as accents. The portion size may seem smaller than Osaka, but the taste is exceptional.

I received the Chicken Keema and Pork Vindaloo-style Keema combination for 1250 yen. Both dishes had a deep flavor with various spices, making me very satisfied. The soup that came with it was also very good for adding a different taste. The Keema dishes were not very moist, so when you pour the soup over them, the rice absorbs the flavor and the dish becomes a whole new experience. I arrived on Friday at around 5:30 pm and was the first in line as there were no people waiting. They opened early at 6:45 pm, and by 6:30 pm there were already around 6 people waiting. When I left at 6:30 pm, there were 3 people waiting outside. I would definitely visit this restaurant again. However, the menu titles are very long!

I ordered the Jasmine rice dish with less rice, topped with a soft-boiled egg and cilantro for 1450 yen, plus 150 yen for the egg and 250 yen for the cilantro. I arrived just after 6 pm when the evening business opened, so I was able to enter promptly. There were a few people waiting, but it wasn't too crowded. It was my first time visiting the old Yam house, Shimo Kita-so. I always order the same menu when I come here, the Jasmine rice dish with a soft-boiled egg and cilantro. The cilantro here isn't too strong in flavor, but I like the generous portion. This month's curry options were unique and all different. My favorite was the Japanese-style chicken keema curry with crispy plum namul. Each curry had its own distinct taste, and I enjoyed mixing and trying different combinations. It was fun to experiment with the flavors.

I ordered the August curry set. The keema curry had a perfect balance of spices and a delicious meat flavor that stood out. Each bite brought deep satisfaction. The hibiscus decoration was stylish. I was planning to have shaved ice right after my meal, so I ordered the "aigake" option. I chose two out of the three options, but the portions that came out were quite small, so I should have just gone with the full order to begin with! The flavors were exactly as I expected, with a strong curry spice presence and a well-thought-out combination of ingredients. Everything was minced finely so it was easy to eat. Also, the system where you don't have to wait in line was convenient. Above all, the female staff member was very kind and provided excellent service to those waiting in the hot weather.

Before entering, there is a reception terminal where you can input your information and receive a paper with a QR code for entry. By scanning the code with your smartphone, you can receive information about the wait time, allowing you to wander around Shimokitazawa instead of waiting in line. Today, I was lucky to enter without having to queue. There are 3 types of curry to choose from, and you can also select your rice preference from turmeric, brown, or jasmine rice. This time, I chose the turmeric flavor, which was delicious as expected. It was a treat! ☺️

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I went for lunch on a Sunday and I was happy that I didn't have to stand in line outside due to their ticketing system! I got my ticket at 11:40 and was 23rd in line, got called at 12:45. You can also check the status online and set up LINE notifications for updates. The estimated wait time posted at the restaurant was pretty accurate as well (around 30 mins for 12 people, 60 mins for 24 people, 90 mins for 36 people). When you open the door, the smell of spices fills the air and you immediately feel ready for some curry. The interior has a retro, charming vibe with a large pendulum clock and unique lighting. It was enjoyable just looking around while waiting. The menu changes monthly, and this month they have 3 creatively themed Keema curries, mixing tropical and traditional Japanese elements. I ordered the combination of 2 and 3 since I don't like wasabi. Served beautifully on a long dish, the keema combinations were colorful and even came with a cute tropical umbrella on the rice. The presentation alone lifted my mood before even tasting it. The Keema with cow/pig meat and bitter melon was tasty, with beans being the main flavor, and the other one was richer and more traditional curry-like. I personally preferred the latter! I poured the Yam Curry soup over the rice halfway, and it complemented both curries well. The soup was delicious too and I finished it all in no time. The dishes had more volume than they appeared thanks to the depth of the dish. I left the place fully satisfied around 13:30. I would definitely recommend this spot to others. Since the menu changes monthly, I'll be coming back for sure! I can't wait to try all 3 varieties next time. Thanks for the delicious meal!

I arrived after a short walk from the station, but had to wait outside the restaurant for a while because there were only a few seats available inside. This popular restaurant always has a line, but the turnover is fast so I was seated quickly. I ordered the trio of keema curries with all toppings, including extra cilantro which added a generous amount. You can choose from three types of rice, and this time I chose brown rice. The more you chew, the more you can taste the various spices, and the curry had the perfect level of spiciness that left me fully satisfied. I would definitely like to visit again.

On this day, I visited this curry restaurant called "Kyuyamutei Shimokitaso" located about a 6-7 minute walk from Shimo-Kitazawa Station on the Odakyu Line. This was my first visit to this restaurant. I have previously visited two other restaurants in the Kyuyamutei chain: the main store in Taniroku and Kyuyamutei Umeda. This visit, on a weekday Monday just before 11 am, saw two groups of customers already in line. I was number three with my ticket, so I was able to enter smoothly once the restaurant opened. For the menu, I ordered the "Zengake Curry" and Masala Chai Ice Cream. For the rice, you could choose from brown rice, turmeric rice, or jasmine rice, and I opted for jasmine rice this time. The August Zengake Curry included Wasabi-flavored crispy Ume Namul, Papaya, and Seaweed-rich Chicken Kheema, Pork Vindaloo-style Kheema with Hibiscus, Pomegranate, and Rose-infused Pork Vindaloo-style Kheema, Flavorful Hummus with Edamame and Corn, Green Peas and Corn Curry with Citrus-infused Goya, and Beef and Pork Kheema cooked with summer vegetables. - Zengake Curry: ¥1,450 (tax included) - Masala Chai: ¥550 (tax included) As for the taste, the Chicken Kheema was delicious with its plump texture from Papaya and seaweed, complementing the well-spiced chicken kheema. The Pork Vindaloo-style Kheema, while not particularly tangy, had a good amount of spices like cardamom and pink pepper, making it very tasty. The Beef and Pork Kheema contained summer vegetables like Goya, Edamame, Corn, and Red Onion, with spices like cardamom as well, resulting in a very delicious dish. Overall, each curry had a unique combination of flavors with a great balance of spices, allowing you to enjoy a variety of tastes in one meal. I was very satisfied with the dishes this time as well! Thank you for the meal! I would definitely visit again if given the chance!

I ordered three types of curry, without cilantro, something with shime saba (mackerel marinated in vinegar), and pickles. I also added green chili. The curry had a strong spice flavor and was very delicious. Adding the green chili gave it a nice level of spiciness. Towards the end, I poured the curry soup over the rice, which I also enjoyed. Hopefully, the jasmine rice won't be sold out next time.

To overcome the intense heat, I decided to visit "Kyu-Yamatei Shimokita-So" in Shimokitazawa for some spice therapy. I got my ticket and entered the restaurant at the specified time. The recommended lassi was so thick that it hardly moved up the straw when I tried to drink it normally. It had a restrained sweetness and was by far the best lassi I've ever had. For the curry plate, I chose the "all toppings" option with three different curries, accompanied by the restaurant's recommended turmeric rice. (1) Spicy chicken keema with crispy umeboshi namul and papaya and seaweed-rich topping - enjoy the umeboshi's crunch and flavor with the spicy chicken keema. (2) Pork vindaloo-style keema with hibiscus, pomegranate, and rose essence, served with rich hummus - the herbs blend well in the keema curry, providing a balance of acidity, crunch, and spiciness. (3) Edamame and corn gari-chi mix, and bitter melon beef and pork keema simmered with citrus - slightly sweet with a citrusy tang, the dish is a summer delight with a mix of flavors from bitter melon and citrus. As you continue eating, pour the accompanying soup to blend and enhance the flavors, making it even more delicious. Savor the ingredients in every bite and enjoy the mix of spices in this medicinal-like, absolute delight of a meal. ♬

When I visited during Golden Week, it was so crowded that I couldn't get in, so I decided to visit for a revenge visit and was able to easily get in on a weekday evening. I chose the roasted chicken keema with charred corn and choban salad tossed in citrus, the spicy mackerel pepper pork keema with apple and radish, and the pork and beef keema with spicy tofu. Each dish had a unique taste and I particularly enjoyed the mackerel dish. They recommended adding soup curry to change the flavor halfway through, which was a fun experience. It was my first visit and I was a bit unsure about the ordering options, but in the end, I thought it might be nice to just focus on one dish and enjoy it thoroughly. Overall, the food was delicious. The Old Yam Residence in Shimokita Manor July Curry (with Yam Curry Soup) symbolled by ★Chaban Salad Tass topped with crispy roasted chicken keema and corn. Delicious but the array of flavors causes enjoyable confusion as the corn pops like chewy mochi with a delicate gravy laden with the soft goodness of chicken... I searched for more information on flavors but couldn't find anything. Perhaps Choban Salad Tass is a shepherd's salad as in Turkish cuisine? That makes sense, with a good ring to it. Following on from the other day, a fascinating salad day here invited by the Yam residence, where you are lured to travel with just one dish. The scent of citrus and spicy fried egg and Daikon mackerel pepper pork keema, to be eaten with fried egg, is like the people's takoyaki junk pop I nurture octopus takoyaki from a meteor shower so the meaning of fried egg is close if it comes from Kansai. The sweetness of apple and Daikon bursts with pink pepper layered with vegetables and spices, and the mackerel becomes a light taste that suits the summer season. Served with winter melon pickles and Chinese chili-spiced beef and pork keema. A keema of ground beef and pork spiced with ma la and a greedy appetite for mapo tofu. I plan to experience the idea that the appetite diminishes because of the heat, which has now vanished. Delicious ☆ Yam curry soup stock! Tomato! Multiplication of deliciousness. I want to sip it bit by bit. * Served with rice and side dish for 1250 yen, served with all side dishes for 1450 yen, and mutton achaar for 300 yen. Surely mutton will be effective for the heat. I had Ai-gake curry with coriander topping. It was much more delicious than I had imagined. This month, there were three types of curry to choose from, and you could choose to have it with all of them. Last time I came, I couldn't get in because it was sold out right before lunchtime, so this time I came around 11 o'clock and got a numbered ticket. I was able to get in around 12:30 when they called my number!
