It was bustling until late, so I stopped by for a final drink at the fourth place. They have a wide variety of food at reasonable prices. There is also a TV, so it's a casual izakaya where you can easily go alone. There are many relatively young people. This time, I only had one drink as I had a little time before the last train. Thank you for the meal.

On the evening of the second day of the 2023 Kyoto trip, we took a break to enjoy the night in Kyoto. But before that, when in Kyoto, you have to visit a sauna! Kyoto is known for its good water, which makes the sauna experience wonderful! After visiting Shirayama-yu Takatsujiten and Umenoyu, we felt refreshed and ready to explore the city while replenishing our body with fluids. Walking in the night breeze, we stumbled upon a lively izakaya. The "New Series" is a chain of Showa-era retro izakayas with a vinyl sheet exterior and a nostalgic interior, offering affordable drinks. With locations like "New Shinmachi" in Shijo, "New Daikaimon" in Marutamachi, "New Karasuma" in Karasuma Bukkoji, "New Ebisuno" in Kyoto Station, and the newly opened "New Takoyakushi" in Karasuma Takoyakushi, each named after the area they are in. The menu includes classic izakaya dishes, as well as a variety of seafood and meat options, featuring seasonal ingredients and satisfying dishes until the end. To start off gently, we ordered the chilled tomato oden, which consists of peeled tomatoes soaked in cold oden broth, topped with bonito flakes and green onions. The cold broth complements the tomatoes well and soothes the body. Paired perfectly with the seasonal sudachi highball, we are now ready for the second act of Kyoto's night!

Late on a weekday night, I came to this local restaurant. I had been here many times before, but this was my first visit since the start of the pandemic. I ordered the following: Negi Shio Cabbage for 385 yen, Kanpachi sashimi for 748 yen, Assorted sashimi platter for 946 yen, Gobo (burdock root) tempura for 506 yen, Tartar Chicken Nanban for 858 yen, and Grilled Seseri (chicken neck) for 793 yen. The Kanpachi sashimi was unexpectedly parboiled... I wish they had mentioned it beforehand! The tuna and salmon in the sashimi platter were delicious. The Gobo tempura was also tasty. However, the Tartar Chicken Nanban was neither Nanban nor tartar sauce... It seems like they changed the chef for this dish. The restaurant used to be known for being affordable and delicious, but it seems like they have raised their prices while compromising on quality. It's a bit disappointing.

It's been a while since I had work in Kyoto, so I headed to a job near Hankyu Karasuma Station. After finishing work quickly, I decided to have a drink. Just a few minutes' walk from the station, there was "New Karasuma." When a place has "New" in its name, I usually expect it to be an old establishment taken over by a new owner, blending traditional charm with a modern touch. However, "New Karasuma" turned out to be a newly opened establishment in an old building, giving off a trendy neo-populist vibe. They had Sapporo Black Label and Kirin Lager in bottles, and I was in the mood for Black Label that day. The bottled beer was a bit pricey at 660 yen including tax, but it was a nice touch to have it with an ashtray. I decided to pair it with a safe and simple choice of ham cutlet. The food menu, however, had quite a few items in the higher price range, making it feel not so cheap for a neo-populist bar. I settled for the ham cutlet at 418 yen including tax, along with a small portion of miso-simmered mackerel at the same price. I also ordered a glass of sake, the Gekkeikan at 528 yen including tax. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience with young and lively staff and customers, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that it was a bit on the expensive side for a neo-populist izakaya.

Today, I worked in Shijo Karasuma again and finished my work quickly. Since I don't have plans to meet my partner today, I decided to go to New Karasuma alone for a solo gourmet experience. The restaurant was bustling with energy and full of customers. I started with a highball and octopus sashimi, which were both delicious. The octopus used was from Hyogo prefecture and was very tasty. I then switched to sake and ordered additional dishes of grilled large clams and plum jellyfish. The clams were small but delicious, and I even enjoyed the broth. The plum jellyfish was also good, and the sake went well with the food. However, the delivery of the eel dish was delayed, and I had to remind the staff twice before it finally arrived. Overall, the restaurant had delicious food, but the service was a bit slow. If they can improve the timing of their food delivery, it would be a great place to dine. Popular spots for casual izakaya in Kyoto. Places like New Karasuma and New Ebisu are bustling and impressively fast with their service. They have created a perfect izakaya atmosphere. The menu is extensive and their famous potato salad now has even more crunch, which is a nice touch. It can get very crowded, so it's a must to go early.

I chose Sapporo Black Label bottled beer and enjoyed it with fresh Senmaii sashimi, firefly squid and myoga salad, and miso soup. Drinking alone at the counter in a bar is quite relaxing. I had as much as I wanted. The food was authentic and delicious. Thank you for the meal. D Works uniform.

Snow! Due to being unable to return home, I ended up staying at a hotel with a colleague and decided to go out for drinks. My colleague smokes, so personally I recommend New Karasuma as a great place where smoking is allowed outside! The sashimi was all delicious, but surprisingly the fried chicken was also tasty!! The restaurant is a casual izakaya with a lively atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Ishikawa-produced cold yellowtail sashimi for 680 yen and the beef tendon stew for 580 yen. The yellowtail sashimi had a slightly fishy smell and some scales were left on. At this price range, it's probably best to avoid ordering sashimi. The beef tendon stew had a strange smell reminiscent of hormone stew.

I came to drink with my boss after work. The potato salad with Worcester sauce was a unique type, not really special, but surprisingly it goes well with alcohol. The smashed cucumber with salt dressing is a reliable choice. The grilled stingray fin is a perfect dish for drinking. The chopped tuna is apparently a specialty here. The chunky red tuna is delicious on its own. The grilled chicken gizzard with grated daikon is a nice addition. Despite saying it's just a casual drink, I ended up having two beers and one plum soda. I drank a bit too much. Thank you for the meal!

I recently took a solo trip to Kyoto and visited a popular izakaya in Karasuma. I challenged myself to dine alone in a bustling place and I must say, I impressed myself. Lately, I find solo outings so enjoyable that I feel reluctant to make plans with others. The sashimi of amberjack was incredibly fatty and delicious, the grilled oysters with mayo miso were packed with flavor, and the simmered beef tendons had a spicy kick to them. It's been a while since before Corona. The restaurant was full, but luckily we managed to find a table after 4 customers left. We started with chu-hai. The potato fries were unique, with a special flavor. After finishing a few more dishes, we left the restaurant. I've seen the chain restaurant "New Something" in various places, but I think this was the first time I visited the one in Karasuma.

The staff were like athletes and created a really fun atmosphere!! A cute new employee made a delicious potato salad topped with oyster sauce, which was a unique and tasty twist! Everything was delicious and it was the best experience ever!! Next door, there is "Teku Teku Kyoto" where you can rent kimonos.

After cheering on Kyoto Purple Sanga, I found a solo drinking spot for the night in Kyoto! The sign saying "Solo customers welcome!" was reassuring for a solo drinker like me. I sat at the end of the counter and started with a draft beer! I chose a Premium Malt this time. The half-sized potato salad, which seems to be a specialty, was a nice touch. Next up was a bottled beer. I indulged a bit with some beef tongue steak. Now, time for some sake! And what to have as a side? How about some fresh raw clams? And for the taste of autumn, grilled Pacific saury with salt. Bon appétit!

I visited this restaurant during my trip to Kyoto, which was my first time in many years. It was hot even in May! When we decided to go out for drinks at night, my friend who lives in Kyoto took us to this popular izakaya. I realized that in Kyoto, where there are so many tempting food options, it's best to have someone local take you around. The food here was delicious no matter what we ordered! The dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette) was a must-try, fluffy and with a generous portion that we couldn't get enough of. Of course, the drinks went down smoothly too. The potato salad had a unique soy sauce flavor that was surprisingly addictive. The sashimi was cut in big pieces, making us crave for some rice to go with it. The hokke fish was thick and satisfying, filling up our stomachs. We tried many other dishes with a group of about four people, and it was best to share and try a variety of items. If this restaurant was in Tokyo, I would definitely become a regular customer. It was a night of complete satisfaction with delicious food.

I have used "New Karasuma", one of the New ○○ series, several times. It is very user-friendly! Whether you want to have a quick drink, go to a second location, or drink with a large group, they have a wide range of menu items that are relatively affordable. This time, I ordered dishes such as dashimaki, chicken nanban, isobeage, and pork kimchi, and all of them were delicious! The first floor has a counter and tables for four people, while the second floor has tatami seating for larger groups. You can usually get in without a reservation.

I was wandering near the hotel looking for a place to have dinner alone when I stumbled upon a lively restaurant. It was quite crowded inside but there was a seat available at the counter, so I sat down. I started off with a glass of draft beer. Then I ordered some appetizers, a sashimi platter, and grilled conger eel. The beer was refreshing, especially on a hot day. The appetizer had a delicate flavor with a hint of dashi. The grilled conger eel had a pleasant texture and a taste that reminded me of summer. The sashimi included salmon, yellowtail, and octopus. The salmon was a classic favorite, the yellowtail had just the right amount of fat, and the octopus was locally sourced and had a nice chewy texture. The drinks arrived quickly after ordering, were affordable, and delicious! It's no wonder this place is thriving.

I tend to get so caught up in eating and chatting that I forget to take photos (>人<;) - Negitoro namero - Fried oysters - Grilled seseri - Shirako ponzu - Fried small taro - Fried burdock - Shishamo (no photo) - Kamaage shirasu don (no photo) - Fried potatoes (no photo) I often choose this place when I want to eat and drink in the Karasuma area! It's reliable◎ The most delicious dish of the day was the Negitoro namero♡ It was amazing to eat it wrapped in seaweed!

Great cost performance, nice atmosphere, and most importantly, delicious food. We were guided to the 2nd floor, which had tatami seating. There was a TV, so we could relax and enjoy our meal. The staff were friendly and created a great atmosphere. There was a person whose pants were too low and showed their underwear, which was funny. I would like to try other menu items next time.

Here is a series of "New ○○" restaurants in Kyoto city. I was always curious whenever I passed by Karasuma Bukkoji, and I had the chance to stop by in the evening. The stainless steel, deep counter seats have a relaxed atmosphere. The interior, renovated from a machiya, combined with the atmosphere, makes you forget you are in Shijo Karasuma. The menu consists mainly of "fish" and "meat", as well as various other dishes and recommendations. It's similar to other restaurants in the same series, with a variety that might make you indecisive. First, I ordered a highball. Then, I asked for "tuna sashimi" and "leek salt cabbage". Both were served promptly, and the staff were very friendly. The tuna was delicious! I didn't used to eat much tuna before, but I'm starting to like it more. I added "new onion and chicken salad" (my memory is vague) and "tempura of seaweed" with a refill of highball, and enjoyed a cozy time before heading home. Not only was the food delicious and satisfying, but the atmosphere was also very comfortable, with better service than other restaurants in the series, and it felt very cozy (maybe because there were still few customers...). Above all, the access from the subway is excellent, so I would love to stop by again.
