I wanted to eat Kyoto cuisine, so I visited the Kyoto cuisine restaurant "Hanasaki" in Gion. I made a reservation two days in advance. Although my reservation was for 12:30, I arrived early and was allowed to enter at 12:10. There are two lunch courses available: the Hanacourse for 10,000 yen and the Mini Kaiseki for 4,500 yen. Walking from the lively Hanami-koji to the quieter Nakaragi, the atmosphere changes to a nostalgic one. Both the Hanacourse and Mini Kaiseki start with seasonal small dishes. The delicately crafted and gentle flavors typical of Kyoto cuisine were delightful. The bite-sized portions were elegant. The charcoal-grilled dish in the Hanacourse was carefully prepared to perfection in the room. Time seemed to flow differently there. Before I knew it, it was already past 2:30 pm! The course took about 2.5 hours. Although the number of dishes in the Hanacourse and Mini Kaiseki differed, they started and ended at the same time, so there was a long interval in between. In addition to the Mini Kaiseki, they also offer reasonably priced bento box lunches, but they were not available during Golden Week. There is a special menu for children up to elementary school age even during Golden Week. My picky eater child had the Mini Kaiseki, but we ended up trading dishes from the Hanacourse to satisfy our appetites... it was too luxurious! Indeed... when asked whether children prefer "simmered dishes" or "Kyoto-style pickled sushi," they would probably be happier with steak, eel, or salmon roe sushi... However, the adults loved the Kyoto-style pickled sushi. The bill was settled in the room. For courses over 6,500 yen, we received "chirimen sansho" as a souvenir when leaving. We had a luxurious experience with the food and time. Thank you for the feast.

I used this restaurant during a trip with my grandmother and mother in Kyoto. Located down a quaint street in Gion, "Hanasaki" was a delightful find. The hostess guided us through the experience with care. The Kyoto cuisine served was meticulously prepared and each dish was a delight. In particular, the "Kyoto pickled vegetable sushi" was fresh and had a wonderful texture and flavor. The sweet "homemade bracken rice cake" was also deliciously soft and tasty!

The taste and service were both great, but I had mentioned that it was for a birthday and I wanted a message plate, however, I didn't receive any response and they didn't prepare one, which was disappointing.

I chose the kaiseki course with all-you-can-drink for 15,000 yen. The dishes were all beautiful and enjoyable as they were served in small portions. There was a good amount of food, and I even had seconds of rice, so I was quite full. It was a wonderful time where I could fully enjoy Kyoto. Thank you for the feast.

The landlady made the restaurant very enjoyable! There are private rooms and some shared private rooms, so it's better to make a reservation in advance. The landlady guided us and we had a very fun and interesting time chatting. The uni with quail eggs and kama-meshi were especially delicious.

A friend took me to a restaurant called "Gion Kyo-ryori Hanasaku." The location in Gion had a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were seated in a separate room away from the main area. We were led to a private room that felt more like a meeting room. The dishes came out quickly, but I eat slowly so I ended up with a traffic jam of plates. The presentation was beautiful and there were plenty of dishes, but none of them left a lasting impression on me. The flavors were just average. However, since we were in a private room with no one else around, I was able to relax and enjoy myself. Thank you for the meal.

It was difficult to make a reservation during the autumn foliage season, but somehow I managed to get one and they were flexible with accommodating us. They were able to accommodate individual dietary restrictions by offering alternative dishes or adding items to the course menu. The rice dish at the end was incredibly delicious! I would love to visit again in the future!

I had a rare experience of enjoying a high-end kaiseki meal for lunch related to work! The restaurant had a traditional Gion-style entrance with a warm curtain hanging. The dishes were full of seasonal freshness, such as fresh sashimi, red bell peppers that resembled chili peppers, and Kyoto-style pickled vegetables. The attention to detail in the service made me feel welcomed and taken care of. It was a valuable experience as I don't often get to visit places like this! Thank you for the meal!

I hurriedly decided on a trip to Kyoto to coincide with the record-breaking early cherry blossom season nationwide. Two days before, when I tried to make a reservation at my usual "SODOH" restaurant, it was fully booked. So, I decided to visit this restaurant that represents Kyoto. Located on a street lined with traditional Kyoto townhouses off Hanami Koji, the restaurant's sign caught my eye. The restaurant itself is tucked away down a narrow alley. Upon entering the entrance, I was immediately led to a private room, so I couldn't see the rest of the restaurant. The room was spacious enough for two people. When in Kyoto, you inevitably do a lot of walking, so it's nice to have a place to relax during lunchtime. We had a mini kaiseki meal. Each dish was carefully prepared and tasted delicious. The timing of the dishes being served was a bit fast. The tempura was hot and crispy, much tastier than the ones at department store tempura shops. After seeing the beautiful cherry blossoms, enjoying seasonal dishes made me feel like choosing Japanese cuisine today was a good decision. On the way out, we were kindly seen off by the staff in front of the restaurant. Looking back, the quaint alley, the wooden townhouses, and the kimono-clad staff created a picturesque scene. This restaurant allows you to truly feel that you have arrived in Kyoto.

In a typical year, this day would be bustling with excitement for the Gion Festival, but this year it has been canceled, so the atmosphere feels a bit different. I ventured down a charming alleyway and enjoyed Kyoto cuisine. The building seemed old, but the interior was bright and clean, lacking the typical aged feel. I took off my shoes and was led upstairs to a traditional Japanese room with a gold folding screen. Since I was invited, I was unaware of the course menu or prices. I only managed to take a few photos in the elegant setting. The meal began with cherry blossom tea, followed by a series of delicately presented dishes that were visually appealing. From sashimi to fried sea bream on eggplant, each dish was served with perfect timing. I couldn't remember all the explanations given by the staff (^0^;) The tempura of conger eel, which is typically eaten during the Gion Festival, was served with curry-flavored salt. A golden bowl contained a corn-based Japanese-style soup. Despite being full, the Kyoto pickled vegetable sushi was still enjoyable. The meal ended with red miso soup, which had azuki beans and was recommended to go well with the dessert, a matcha roll cake from Hanasaka Kashiya, a sister shop. I had a delightful and elegant experience enjoying Kyoto cuisine. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

There is a restaurant located along a small cobblestone path in Gion. Upon entering the second-floor tatami room, you will be served a traditional Kyoto kaiseki meal starting from appetizers to the main course, rice, and pickled sushi. The dishes are all standard and above average, but nothing too surprising. What was surprising was the speed at which the dishes were served - each dish came out quickly one after another, giving a rushed feeling.

A friend from Kanto came to visit, so I wanted to show them a taste of Kyoto without breaking the bank. I wish the appetizer platter had been a bit more extravagant, but the broth was delicious and the sushi with Kyoto vegetables was tasty.

I entered a quiet alley from the bustling Hanamikoji Street, where the sound of water and the scent of incense welcomed me. The cuisine, a traditional Kyoto kaiseki lunch, was truly exceptional with delicious flavors and a rich dashi broth. It felt like a taste of the extraordinary in the midst of everyday life.

The overall cuisine used for entertaining is traditional Kyoto cuisine. It is quite delicious, but very standard. There are no surprises. The dishes are consistently good without any misses. I might use it for entertaining next time.

I was lucky to be able to make a last-minute reservation on the day. I am grateful! I had a Kyoto-style dinner experience during my short one-night stay in Kyoto. I would love to visit this restaurant again.
