I bought a strong green tea (851 yen) for home use. There was another slightly cheaper option, but the staff let me try this one, so I decided to purchase it. It's a powdered green tea that can be made with cold water, but when mixed with milk and ice, it becomes a rich and sweet matcha milk that is very delicious.

During my spring trip to Kyoto in March 2023, I finally had the chance to try the Hagoita Ice Cream that I had been wanting to eat for a long time. I visited the Ito Kyuemon Kyoto Station Front Branch, located two blocks west of Kyoto Tower. I tried the Hagoita Ice Cream with strawberries, which is a standing-eating-only product. I sat on a chair in front of the store and enjoyed it. In addition to strawberries, it also had berries on top, with a subtle sweetness and a hint of bitterness from the matcha ice cream. It was very delicious, but a bit challenging to eat while walking. The frozen product can also be purchased online, making it a great gift for women or a delightful dessert for home parties. Afterward, I enjoyed the illumination at Kyoto Station Building.

A shop selling Uji matcha located on the north side of Kyoto Station. I bought a matcha daifuku. It is sold frozen and is ready to eat after thawing in the refrigerator for about 3 hours. The bitterness of the matcha remains and pairs well with the sweetness of the red bean paste. They provide a cooling pack for up to 2 hours of carrying, making it a perfect souvenir.

I was asked to bring back a souvenir for my wife, so I visited "Itoh Kyuemon Kyoto Station Front Store" for the first time. This shop doesn't have an outlet in Tokyo, so it's a good place to get Kyoto souvenirs. Sometimes they participate in events where they only sell their products. The request was for matcha powder "Mudo," but since this store didn't carry it, I bought "Ajiroki" instead. When I sent a photo of the refrigerated showcase, I received additional requests for "Uji Matcha Cheesecake," "Uji Matcha Butter Sandwich," and "Uji Matcha Raw Chocolate." They were all matcha-flavored sweets, and although I didn't get to try them myself because they disappeared before I could, they were apparently delicious. The chilled tea I sampled in the store was sweet and had a great aroma. Thank you for the meal!

I purchased a Strawberry Parfait Ice Bar for 640 yen (tax included). When I entered the store, I saw three types of ice bars hanging in front: Tropicale for 590 yen (tax included), Matcha for 540 yen (tax included), and Strawberry for 640 yen (tax included). I chose the Strawberry flavor. The colorful ice bar looked very appealing, and just looking at it made me happy. The Matcha ice cream was covered with strawberries and raspberries, allowing me to enjoy various flavors. I was able to enjoy the ice bar while admiring its appearance.

Matcha Parfait Bar 540 yen
It's matcha ice cream! On top of the matcha ice bar, there are chocolate, matcha chocolate, mandarin oranges, shiratama, and anko! The rich matcha flavor combined with various toppings was incredibly delicious! It's very close to Kyoto Station and perfect for eating on the go, so be sure to visit when you're in Kyoto Station! This is the perfect dessert for hot Kyoto weather!

I wanted to try Daifuku and Landkuche-like sweets, but they were refrigerated. Since they were not sold individually, I gave up and bought this Mizuyokan instead. I sent three to my parents' house and bought two for myself. This one was sold individually. I ate it chilled, and it had a refreshing and smooth texture with a sophisticated taste. It's more suitable as a gift rather than for personal consumption. I also liked that it's additive-free.

I visited here in front of the exit on the north side of the underground street. The BGM in the store is JPOP played on a music box. I got the "Chawara" to go. The mochi is very chewy. The honey is not too sweet, and you can really taste the flavor of the mochi itself.

Today I had three meals and a snack! Hello, this is Okahiro! Today I had Uji matcha warabi mochi for ¥388. It seemed like it would be good to eat it on a plate, but it looked so delicious that I had it on the Shinkansen right away. The chewy warabi mochi had a great texture and the matcha flavor was delicious.

I tried a strawberry dessert for 640 yen. I don't really have any foods that I dislike, but I'm not a fan of matcha, coriander, and well-cooked liver. However, I thought that if I overcome them, my food options would expand, so I decided to challenge myself. I love strawberries, so I gave it a try. I cautiously took a bite... It's sweet! It tastes like strawberry! I could eat it! The chocolate coating was thin, so I could eat it in small bites, and as I progressed, it tasted a bit like matcha. The part with the chocolate coating and fruits was easy to eat, but the matcha-only part was a bit challenging. I left a little bit, but this dessert is popular and smooth, so if you like matcha, it should be delicious. The strawberry part was delicious. It looked good and tasted good, so if you like matcha, definitely give it a try!

I purchased two boxes of Uji Komochi, which are bite-sized mochi made with plenty of stone-ground Uji matcha and walnuts, and coated with matcha and soybean flour. Each box contains 6 pieces. They made a great souvenir. They were a perfect match with strong tea, although the bite-sized portions left me wanting more. Overall, they were delicious.

I was browsing for souvenirs at Kyoto Station and decided to go with a matcha roll cake, as Kyoto is synonymous with matcha. When I got home, my family and I ate it together. The box indicated that the expiration date was about six months away, but the staff at the store had told me to consume it within two days since it had been thawed. I'm not sure if it was frozen or if it was naturally thawed from frozen. If it's not a special thawing method, I would prefer to buy it frozen, because if it lasts longer... I had low expectations, but it turned out to be incredibly delicious. My family also loved it. The moist matcha sponge and the light cream were perfectly balanced, and we enjoyed it a lot. We also had some matcha tea with it. The matcha flavor was decent, and it was a great souvenir find! Inside the paper box, there was an additional Styrofoam container, which was a perfect cube, and my family was impressed by the craftsmanship. We could feel the artisan touch even in the packaging.

I purchased some sweets from Ito Kyuemon. I was really drawn to the ice bars, but I had a lunch reservation right after, so I opted for something I could take home. I bought a box of 5 chocolate sweets for 1,080 yen. The shop is small but has a great lineup of items, from tea to matcha sweets. When I opened the box at home, I found that the sweets were in a cute smaller box inside (it reminded me of Hagi no Tsuki). This makes it convenient for sharing with others. Although I bought it for my family's snack, so the box wasn't necessary. The sweets turned out to have a very soft texture, more like a ganache than a baked good. The rich flavor was delicious (leaving a lingering taste, making me want a drink). My daughter and I enjoyed it, with her especially loving it and saying it was the best snack we had that day. I think it would be great to enjoy with roasted green tea or a strong matcha. I'm interested in trying their matcha daifuku and other items in the future. Thank you for the treat.

A long-established tea shop in Higashi Shiokoji-cho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, where you can enjoy authentic matcha. Located just a short walk from Kyoto Station, right along the Kyoto Tower street, so it's easy to find. The store is not the original one but still has the atmosphere of a traditional tea shop, with a cozy and comfortable space. Here, you can not only purchase tea but also buy sweets and desserts. Due to its location near the station, it attracts not only locals but also many tourists from overseas. On this visit, I bought Uji Hojicha Takara Kaori, which I think is one of the most delicious hojicha teas I've ever had. Thank you for always providing delicious tea!

The hot days are still continuing. I decided to try the new matcha sweets from Itohkyuemon, a tea shop in front of Kyoto Station.
Itohkyuemon seems to be a long-established store for Uji matcha, dating back to the late Edo period. They have a main store in Uji, and the Kyoto Station store offers Uji tea and matcha sweets as souvenirs. This year's new product is the matcha parfait bar, available in "Toropical," "Matcha," and "Strawberry" flavors.
I tried the matcha parfait bar with strawberries. The frozen strawberries and raspberries were stuck to the ice bar like a hagoita (a paddle used in a New Year's game). It looked beautiful and had a strong visual impact. When eating it outside the store, many people turned their heads and showed interest. Inside, there was matcha ice cream, allowing me to enjoy the traditional taste of Uji matcha. The fruits were firmly attached to the ice bar and were not difficult to eat. It was an innovative sweet using traditional Uji matcha. It was delicious!

I tried Itoh Kyuemon's Matcha Daifuku at Kyoto Station and it was surprisingly delicious! The skin was soft and stretchy, and the matcha filling inside was thick and smooth, with a perfect balance of matcha flavor. It's so good that I want to buy it again online.

I couldn't resist buying these cute pink sakura matcha daifuku that are only available in spring! The sakura matcha daifuku has a soft mochi outer layer filled with matcha cream. The mochi is so soft that it almost blends in with the cream inside! I thought the pink color and the name implied a cherry blossom flavor, but I couldn't taste any sakura. The matcha daifuku has the familiar matcha bean paste inside, with a creamy and soft matcha paste. It has the same bitterness as the sakura matcha daifuku, but the texture is different because of the bean paste. The rich matcha bean paste is so delicious! I had the impression that Ito Kyuemon was a tea shop, so I thought the matcha inside the daifuku would be very bitter. But it turned out to be a rich matcha with a manageable level of bitterness.

Once again, this is a souvenir series featuring chocolate sweets made with Kyoto matcha. The vibrant green color and slight bitterness of freshly ground matcha are followed by the gentle sweetness of melting chocolate in your mouth. This super famous chocolate is made by a long-established tea shop in Uji.

I had been passing by this shop and was curious about it. It is located near Kyoto Tower in front of JR Kyoto Station. While there are many Tsujiri shops around, Itoh Kyuemon's shop is not as common outside of Uji, so I decided to stop by. Although it was not a sit-in cafe, they sold various sweets in addition to tea. As I wandered around the store, I was offered a cup of tea as a service. It was truly delicious tea from Itoh Kyuemon. I felt like I should buy something, but everything was quite expensive, so I ended up purchasing a Gâteau Chocolat Uji no Komichi and Chayugetsu. I tried both immediately. I started with the Gâteau Chocolat, which had a rich matcha base and was very delicious. Similarly, the Chayugetsu had a thick matcha cream coating on the outside and was also surprisingly tasty. These could make a great souvenir from Kyoto, especially as a gift from a famous shop that is not a typical choice.
