At an udon shop selling inari sushi, I decided to try their special kitsune fair menu. I ordered the Kitsune-filled Meat Curry Udon for 750 yen (discounted from the regular price of 820 yen). The dish had plenty of finely chopped fried tofu, although the amount of meat and green onions seemed a bit less in comparison. The curry was more like a spicy curry soup rather than thick and creamy, resembling a soup curry. The udon noodles were thin and soft, and the curry was piping hot, making me break a sweat. Although I accidentally splattered curry on my shirt in two places, I regretted that, but the dish was so delicious that I finished every drop of the soup.

On a chilly day, I wanted something warm to eat so I revisited a restaurant and was torn between udon and Chinese noodles, but ended up choosing curry Chinese noodles. It was delicious until the last bite, piping hot. Personally, I think I prefer udon more. I would like to try other menu items at this restaurant in the future.

I had planned to go to Saizeriya, but there was a long wait, so I decided to go to my familiar restaurant, Sanko Mochi. Since it's cold season, I ordered Chinese noodles and inari sushi. I was disappointed that the Chinese noodles were made with udon broth instead of chicken broth. I regret not ordering their famous curry noodles. The inari sushi was delicious and one piece was enough. It's a cheap and popular dining spot, and I will continue to visit in the future.

Kyoto is a noodle and rice bowl restaurant located in Hyakumanben. Although it's known as "Sanko" (short for Sanjo-Kyodai), there aren't many customers giving off a Kyoto University vibe. I ordered the Tori Nanba for 650 yen. The soba broth had a slightly cloudy appearance, but it was quite delicious. The two pieces of inari sushi for 200 yen were quite large. The chicken was well-prepared and tender, overall it was a satisfying meal.

After finishing our 3rd period class at 2:45 PM, my friends and I went to Sankou Mochi. We hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch, so we were a group of hungry students. We all love the thick and gooey tanuki udon, especially from Sankou Mochi. It's considered to be a winter favorite due to its high temperature. The ginger flavor was delightful. And let's not forget about the inari sushi, a must-have dish.

This is a nostalgic dining hall in Hyakumanben with a long history, and the atmosphere of this area is filled with old-fashioned eateries. The restaurant is a large standalone building with a takeout window on the side. Inside, there are tables lined up neatly, and on the left side of the wall, you can see the busy kitchen. The simple white walls lack any decorative items like shichimi pepper. The menu offers a variety of udon dishes typical of Kyoto's casual dining halls, as well as plenty of rice bowl options. They also have a good selection of ramen and curry dishes. I decided to order the pork cutlet curry rice since I was in the mood for rice. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and I could hear the sound of frying, ensuring that it was freshly fried. A small packet of shichimi pepper was placed on a saucer, so I sprinkled some for added spice and aroma. The pork cutlet was crispy and slightly thick, indicating it was freshly fried. The curry had a rich and thick consistency, with just the right amount of spiciness after adding the shichimi pepper. The flavor was not too sweet, with a strong umami taste from the broth and a simple curry powder taste. Just when I thought it looked plain, green onions peeked out from under the pork cutlet, enhancing both the color and flavor. I believe green onions are a must for curry dishes with broth. Dishes like curry rice and curry ramen from casual dining halls are just simply delicious! It was a tasty meal. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a restaurant that serves lunch all day, as I couldn't have lunch during the usual lunch time. I ordered a curry rice bowl for 770 yen. It took a bit of time for the food to be prepared, maybe because there weren't many customers at that time. The curry was flavorful and spicier than I had imagined. The fried cutlet was crispy and delicious.

I go there almost every week, but it tends to get quite crowded. The curry udon is delicious with a spicy kick. I recommend the kitsune curry with sliced fried tofu. It's an old udon shop in town, but surprisingly tasty! It might be the best noodle shop in the area. The parent and child udon, and in the winter, the an-kake with egg are delicious Kyoto-style dishes. The portions are small, but the prices are cheap, so you can order rice or inari sushi to go with it. I think the elderly mother, who is around 90 years old, used to make the inari sushi until recently, but now she just sits at the counter. Her son is running the place now.

I visited Sanko Mochi in Kyoto, Hyakumanben for a late lunch. This long-established shop started as a traditional Japanese sweets shop in the Taisho era and now offers udon, soba, and donburi at affordable prices. I ordered the popular curry noodles with plenty of beef, as well as some delicious inari sushi. The combination of curry and Chinese-style noodles was satisfying, and the traditional inari sushi was also a hit. The shop is popular among Kyoto University students and attracts customers of all ages. It was a great experience trying out the specialty dishes at this historic shop.

Today, I had lunch here. As usual, I came during off-peak hours. I ordered the meat curry udon. It was quite spicy, with sweat slowly dripping down. I couldn't tell if the spiciness overpowered the broth or not. Thank you for the meal.

I remember coming to the old-established mochi shop "Hyakumanben no Udon-ya Sankou Mochi" a long time ago, but I was surprised to see that the building has been renovated beautifully! The specialty here is the curry ramen, with three varieties available: meat, tempura, and tempura with meat. I recommend the tempura with meat curry ramen, which has both toppings. The ramen noodles are delicious, and the curry broth is a must-try! The creamy oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) is also recommended, with a texture similar to egg over rice.

Visited the store around 2:00 PM on Sunday near Hyakumanben. Three Kodo Mochi has been around for a long time. By the way, Three Kodo does not refer to tall stature, high income, and high education, but to the former Third Higher School, Kyoto University Faculty of Liberal Arts, now known as the International Higher Education Institute. Both Three Kodo Mochi and Oike Mochi are mochi shops that also offer regular meals. Ordered Kitsune Curry Udon (¥590). The place was almost full, and it took about 15 minutes to be served. The fried tofu was finely chopped. The curry soup was quite spicy and hot, making me sweat. The udon was soft and plentiful, filling me up. It was a warm and satisfying meal.

It was a weekend with light rain. I visited Jissoin and Rengeji in the northern part of Kyoto. I left Osaka early in the morning, so I was able to finish sightseeing by noon and returned to Demachiyanagi. For lunch, I decided to try Sankoubou. I ordered the "Tempura and Egg Rice Bowl" that I saw on Tabelog. The tempura included 2 small shrimp and vegetable tempura. It was topped with a soft and runny egg. It was very hot and delicious. The seasoning seemed to be kombu dashi with salt. For someone used to bonito dashi and soy sauce in the Kanto region, this egg topping was a fresh experience. It was extremely delicious!

I had the curry rice bowl and udon set. It was really delicious! This is the curry of a soba restaurant! It was a bit spicy but the dashi was flavorful and tasty, I wish I had ordered a large portion. It seems like an older lady and her son run the place, so there might be a bit of a wait on weekends, but I would love to go back. There were other delicious-looking dishes on the menu that I want to try, thank you for the meal!
