End-of-year holiday. Discussing where to have lunch today. My partner expressed a desire to eat Tianjin rice, so we headed to the restaurant. I had a bit of a traumatic experience at this place before when I was feeling unwell and couldn't eat properly. I ended up bedridden afterward, so I had a bit of a trauma associated with this restaurant. However, today I am feeling great. I'm in the mood for fried chicken. Yes! It's the perfect day for a revenge meal! Looking at reviews from other customers, the Tianjin rice also looks delicious! I might want to try the Tianjin rice and fried chicken too! There is one parking spot available. Even though it's still before lunchtime, the restaurant is starting to get a bit crowded. We carefully explored the menu. While I was tempted by the set meals, I ended up choosing the Tianjin rice and fried chicken set, which seemed to have the least amount of food. Due to my past trauma, I was a bit wary. My partner chose the liver and leek set with Taiwan ramen, and a large serving of Tianjin rice with an additional order of black vinegar sweet and sour pork for sharing. As we waited, we overheard conversations around us. It seems that many families order set meals and individual dishes to share when dining here. It's a common practice at restaurants with large portions. Finally, my partner's Tianjin rice arrived. They looked happy with the depth of the bowl and the generous serving. Next, my regular-sized Tianjin rice arrived. I felt a moment of relief when I compared it to my partner's. But wait, isn't it huge? Maybe even twice the size of the one I had at a different restaurant a few days ago? It's a common thing at restaurants with large portions. My partner's Taiwan ramen set was also served, leaving only the fried chicken and sweet and sour pork. I started to feel a bit nervous. And finally, the fried chicken and sweet and sour pork from the set arrived. Look, it's the reverse fraud from the menu photo! Why is the fried chicken so small on the small plate? It doesn't fit properly, so I had to stack them on top of each other! It's a common thing at restaurants with large portions. Enough of this! Let's just eat! The sweet and sour pork also arrived! Is there salt for the fried chicken? I tried to find it on the table, but my partner pointed downwards. It was under the fried chicken, inside the small plate. I couldn't see it! And I couldn't reach it! I put one piece of fried chicken on the soup bowl and sprinkled some salt on it. It was hot and delicious! I'm feeling great! Hooray! Let's try the Tianjin rice! With plenty of sauce and a shiny egg, I took a spoonful and tasted it. The fluffy egg revealing the perfectly cooked rice, the right amount of saltiness in the sauce, it's quite to my liking! Delicious! My partner also seemed satisfied. However, after eating about half, we both looked at each other. It's quite a lot, isn't it? My partner entered full-on eating mode. We shared the liver and leek and sweet and sour pork, and I tried to eat as much as I could. The liver and leek had a slightly reddish color, maybe with ketchup? It was a bit sweet? Plenty of vegetables and liver. The black vinegar sweet and sour pork had a hint of black sugar, making it a bit sweet. The Tianjin rice, which would have been a large serving at other restaurants, had me struggling in the second half, both with the generous amount of sauce and the thick egg drop soup. I managed to finish it somehow. My partner also finished everything, very satisfied, and we left the restaurant. However, my stomach was at its limit. I don't think I can eat anything with a larger portion at this restaurant. Maybe I'll stick to ordering individual dishes or pushing some food onto my partner next time. I'd like to come back again, though.
