All the dishes were incredibly delicious without any exaggeration! I made a reservation and visited [Charcoal Grill Kazuya] in Kawaramachi, Kyoto, but when I arrived, the place was already full and customers kept coming in non-stop, showing how popular this restaurant is. It's no wonder, as they have been in business for 12 years and their charcoal-grilled dishes are amazing. After quenching my thirst with a highball, I ordered a la carte dishes, including grilled vegetables platter for 1980 yen, straw-grilled mackerel for 1980 yen, eel kabayaki with wasabi for 2980 yen, thick mushrooms with grated negi and ponzu for 680 yen, pregnant shishamo for 650 yen, and smoked herring potato salad with smoked egg for 720 yen. The grilled vegetables were perfectly cooked, with the eggplant being soft, tomatoes juicy, and onions and shishito peppers bringing out the flavors of the ingredients. The edamame was dangerously good with alcohol, and the miso seasoning did wonders. The straw-grilled mackerel was fatty and delicious, the eel kabayaki was a big piece cooked slowly to perfection, and the mushrooms were thick and paired well with the negi and ponzu sauce. The shishamo was a classic snack for drinking, and the potato salad had a crunchy texture from the smoked herring and a creamy texture from the smoked egg. Each dish was quite filling, and everything was truly delicious. The set courses are also reasonably priced, making it easier to enjoy the recommended dishes from the restaurant. They cater to various occasions from dates to parties, making it a versatile and convenient choice for many customers. I highly recommend this place, so be sure to check it out! They are open from 5:00 PM to midnight, closed on Mondays. Their menu includes a variety of fresh sashimi, grilled vegetables, straw-grilled mackerel, charcoal-grilled duck, sea urchin and salmon roe rice, purple sweet potato pudding, red clam with crab miso, and more. The sashimi was fresh and the tuna tataki had a unique chewy texture. The grilled vegetables were juicy and fragrant, the mackerel was moist and tender, the duck was bouncy with a good bite, and the red clam with crab miso paired well with sake. The sea urchin and salmon roe rice was visually appealing and appetizing. We had a very enjoyable and delicious dining experience at Kazu-ya.

Charcoal-grilled izakaya "Sumibi Kazuya" is a place where you can enjoy seasonal vegetables and seafood grilled over charcoal. Everything I tried was delicious and I confidently recommend it. Highly recommend the straw-grilled mackerel for ¥1,980. The fat was perfectly cooked and the aroma of the straw was irresistible. The assorted sashimi for ¥2,490 was all incredibly fresh. The thick mushroom with grated negi and ponzu for ¥680 was juicy and flavorful. The grilled whole red shrimp for ¥780, the charcoal-grilled duck for ¥1,980 prepared with low-temperature cooking, the seafood tempura dashi tea for ¥650, and the grilled dried firefly squid for ¥500 were all of high quality. Each dish was so good that I couldn't resist ordering more. This place is so popular that reservations are a must. Can't wait to go back again!

I had been curious about this place for a while and finally visited it for the first time. The food was even better than I expected, and the restaurant was lovely. The staff were very kind and welcoming. I was dining alone so I got full quickly and couldn't try everything, which was a shame. However, there were many dishes that would go well with alcohol, so I look forward to visiting again next time.

Kyoto City Nakagyo-ku, "Charcoal Kazuya" is located about a 2-minute walk north from Exit 1a of Hankyu Kyoto Line "Kyoto Kawaramachi Station". It is also about a 5-minute walk north from Keihan Main Line "Gion Shijo Station" across Shijo Ohashi Bridge. The restaurant was renovated in June 2023 and has a modern and clean Kyoto-style dining atmosphere. There are counter seats, tables, and tatami seating available. The items ordered this time were ★ "Assorted Sashimi 5 Varieties" (1980 yen), "Tuna with Egg Yolk Soy Sauce" which reminded me of "Island Sushi", "Seared Sea Bream" with a crispy seared skin, "Smoked Salmon and Salmon Roe Mixed with Wasabi" with a hint of smokiness, "Octopus" and "Amberjack". These were served with "Homemade Dashi Soy Sauce", making it a special sashimi assortment with an extra touch. ★ "Smoked Oil-Pickled Oysters" (890 yen) with yuzu and perilla leaf flavor, ★ "Kazuya Special Vegetable Salad" (980 yen) with various textures and flavors, dressed in "Black Vinegar Soy Dressing". ★ "Garlic Chicken Steak Feast" (1280 yen) with mustard, wasabi, rock salt, and lemon, a hearty garlic steak. ★ "Three Varieties of Kyoto-style Fu Tempura" (750 yen) with different sauces, a Kyoto specialty. ★ "Thick-cut Bacon with Wasabi" (850 yen) served with wasabi, lemon, and garlic salt. ★ "Seafood Tempura Dashi Tea Pickles" (650 yen) was an additional order but still delicious. I entered and sat at the counter, ordering the "Sashimi Assortment of 3 Types" (1,280 yen) and a "Medium Draft Beer" (600 yen). The sashimi assortment included octopus, red snapper, and kanpachi, each offering a unique and delicious flavor. The octopus had a chewy texture with a rich umami flavor, while the red snapper had a firm texture with a hint of smokiness. The kanpachi was fresh and flavorful, offering a delightful crunch with each bite. I also tried the "Eggplant with Meat Miso" (900 yen), which was grilled to perfection and paired well with the savory meat miso. The highlight of the meal was the "Charcoal-Grilled Mackerel" (980 yen), a generous portion of fatty mackerel that was torched tableside. Here are some of the new menu items: - Blazing! Charcoal-grilled Shime Saba (980 yen): Shime saba is grilled over straw and then seared to perfection right in front of you. The size of the dish is impressive, and the combination of the straw aroma and the seared flavor is delightful. - Assorted Sashimi Plate with 10 varieties (2980 yen): A luxurious plate featuring 10 different kinds of sashimi, such as grilled isaki, sliced octopus, sliced madai, kanpachi, smoked salmon, red shrimp, marinated tuna, and more, served with homemade soy sauce. - Assorted Appetizers with 3 varieties (980 yen): This plate includes uni and crab miso with red sea cucumber, eggplant and chicken with Nishin miso, and smoked and oil-marinated oysters, all perfect for pairing with drinks. - Grilled Baby Corn with Husk (650 yen): Baby corn grilled over charcoal and seasoned with sansho pepper miso. Second visit, this time I ordered carpaccio, vegetable tempura, and duck breast. Although they are not cheap, they are delicious, and the staff's service is great! I visited a shop in Kawaramachi that is known for its grilled dishes! One of the good points of this shop is that, as the title suggests, it is open until late at night and offers a wide variety of delicious drinks! This time, as shown in the photo, I had dishes such as fried chicken and vegetable tempura, as well as other items like grilled nagaimo (Chinese yam). Everything was delicious, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff were friendly, so I would like to visit again!

The staff provided pleasant customer service and we had a great time in a calm atmosphere. I had mistakenly thought it was a yakitori restaurant based on a quick look at Tabelog, but it turned out to be a fish and charcoal grill restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes from sashimi, to grilled vegetables over charcoal, and everything was delicious. Personally, I would have been happier with a greater variety of drinks. I would love to visit again.

It was a bit difficult to find the restaurant as it was located in a somewhat hidden alley. However, once inside, I was pleased with the clean and cozy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and easy to talk to, making my experience enjoyable. The food was delicious and made good use of fresh ingredients. I have already recommended this place to my colleagues. It's a restaurant I will definitely visit again.

I found a great restaurant that was open late at night when I was having trouble finding a place to eat because I eat dinner late. The menu had a variety of seafood, fried foods, and vegetables. I ordered squid sashimi which was delicious and chewy. The service was excellent, with quick drink refills and prompt plate clearing. They had good whiskey selections like Hakushu and Yamazaki for highballs. They are open until 3 am, which is very convenient. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal.

I visited for the first time and had a very enjoyable time. I was surprised by the deliciousness of the vegetables, fish, and meat grilled over charcoal. The alcohol also went down easily. The straw-grilled dishes were cooked right in front of me, and I enjoyed them while chatting with the staff. I want to try all the menu items! I live nearby, so I will visit again. I casually dropped in around 11 o'clock and ordered various dishes. Overall, everything was delicious. The portion size of each dish is small, but it's good for snacking. They are open until 3 AM, so it's a convenient place for when you get hungry at night.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and the staff are very friendly! The building is stylish and the interior is very clean. The sashimi is delicious, but there are also many other menu options which is great! A unique feature is their commitment to charcoal grilling, so if you think it's just seared, be sure to try it! Overall, the menu is extensive and all the dishes were very tasty. In particular, the sashimi was fresh and delicious. The prices are a bit high, but it's not a big concern given the quality.
