Sunday lunch. After completing a medical check-up and drinking two effervescent agents and barium as instructed, I took two tablets of the laxative and headed to this place where I had made a reservation in advance. I couldn't give up on food just because of barium. It's just a 2-3 minute walk from Yotsuya-sanchome Station on the Marunouchi Line. It's located on Carrow Gate Street. There are several tonkatsu restaurants and famous yakitori shops along this Carrow Gate Street. When I arrived at the opening time of 11 o'clock, there was one customer at the counter with 4 seats and one group of 3 people at the table in the back. I sat at the second counter seat from the back and stared at the menu. First, I ordered a medium bottle of beer (660 yen). It was only me drinking at 11 in the morning. Please forgive me as I just finished a year-end medical check-up. The tonkatsu options are a regular set, Yonezawa Three-tier Pork, and Umeyama Pork. Comparing the same 300g of upper loin, the regular set is 3,630 yen, Yonezawa Three-tier Pork is 5,170 yen, and Umeyama Pork is 8,580 yen (including rice, miso soup, and pickles for both Yonezawa pork and Umeyama pork). The regular set looked delicious enough, but since I saw MyRebi-san's report on the Three-tier Pork, I went for the Three-tier Pork. When asked about thin or thick slices, I chose thick slices. The owner pounded the pork behind the counter and skewered it in the back kitchen before deep-frying it. The madam lined up a pair of giant clogs on the counter, and prepared mesh, cabbage, karashi (Japanese mustard), and pickles. There was only one round plate, which seemed to be for me, as I received pickles and bean sprout stir-fry before anyone else. I drank beer while having pickles as my appetizer. I also ordered an extra pork cutlet. It took about 20 minutes from ordering to the dish being served. Before the dish arrived, a dish of soy sauce with mustard and warm sauce poured from the pot was served. After the tonkatsu, rice and miso soup were served. First, I tried the meat as it was. It had a subtle saltiness and was delicious on its own. The meat juices overflowed in the mouth and it was delicious. And the pork flavor was still intact. Excellent! I had two slices as they were, without adding anything. It was of quite a high level. Though there was a slightly pink center due to marinade, it wasn't raw and had the perfect tonkatsu texture. Next came the salt. I dipped it in the salt on the table, which made it quite sharp. Delicious! Later, I tried the soy sauce with mustard. The sauce was similar to ponzu with a sweet taste. The mustard added a nice touch. Yummy! I forgot about the sauce since the tonkatsu was so good and finished it quickly. The rice was freshly cooked and not mixed up. It was served as it was just cooked. I like this kind of rice. The flavor was great and the texture was slightly grainy, which I think is delicious. Just as I like it. The soup was a white miso soup with two small slices of fried tofu. It was slightly sweet due to the miso, which blended well with the pork broth. The cabbage had sauce drizzled over it. It was fruity and sweet, with a hint of spiciness. You could tell they put great effort into it. I finished the 300g pork loin in no time as it was so delicious. The coordination between the owner and the madam was great, and I was very satisfied. Oh, I finally met a tonkatsu that was a big hit after a long time. Thank you for the meal. December 11, 2022.
