On this day, I went to a place near Kawaramachi. It was around 7:00 in the evening, with a few customers already inside and it became full later on. The menu only had two options: ramen and chashu ramen, keeping it simple. I ordered the ramen this time. After a short wait, the ramen in the photo was served. It had a cloudy yellowish color, with back fat and red pepper sprinkled on top, making it look appetizing. The soup was smooth and had a rich soy sauce flavor that was very satisfying. The spiciness of the red pepper was not noticeable at first, but gradually became a nice accent towards the end. The noodles were thin and had a slippery, chewy texture. The chashu was thick and tender, providing a satisfying bite. Other toppings included a sheet of seaweed and green onions. I added some chili pepper and garlic from the condiments on the table to change the flavor as I finished every last bit. It was a delicious bowl of ramen that left a lingering taste. I look forward to trying their fried rice and other dishes next time.

Char siu ramen, large size, with extra green onions - 1,250 yen. I was able to enter the shop without lining up right after it opened. This ramen brings back memories from my university days. It was a place I frequented a lot since it was close to my home. I heard that it had closed down after I graduated, so I was saddened, but now that it has reopened, I came back to visit after more than 10 years in Kyoto. The appearance of the shop looks the same, but I feel like the taste is a bit different. I don't remember there being chopped garlic before. I'm not sure if I've changed or if the shop has changed, but it felt slightly different from the Sugichiyu I remember.

When I visited this place on Kano Oji Road near my workplace, I used to frequent it often, but this was my first visit since it reopened in Kawaramachi. I ordered the Ramen Dai (950 yen) with high expectations. In the past, I could see them making ramen behind the counter in a U-shape, but now I couldn't, which was a bit disappointing. Remembering the previous location, I started with the soup... It's a chicken bone and pork soy sauce broth, but it tastes slightly different from what I remember. It's a nostalgic flavor. The noodles are thin and slightly firm, just the way I like them. And the large chashu... the melt-in-your-mouth texture, it's definitely Sugi Chiyo. Following the way of enjoying Sugi Chiyo Ramen, I enjoyed changing the flavors while savoring the soup, and I ended up drinking almost all of it, which was just right and delicious. I savored the aftertaste and said, "Thank you for the meal."

Visited Sugichiyosan in Shijo Kawaramachi for the first time. I tried the Charshu Ramen (1050 yen) and the Fried Rice (580 yen). According to the menu description, it seems to be a ramen originating from Uzumasa. The soup is a soy sauce base with chicken and pork bones, topped with floating lard and a touch of red pepper. It's a familiar taste of Kyoto ramen. The toppings include green onions, seaweed, bamboo shoots, and charshu, which was tender and delicious. I also ordered the fried rice separately. I prefer it a bit more crispy, but it was still satisfyingly flavorful and filling. It's a straightforward and classic Kyoto ramen that would be convenient if you're in the area.

Two-year anniversary special: All-in-one special for 1100 yen + extra green onions for 50 yen + extra rice for 150 yen from 6/22 to 7/20. I happened to be wandering around and saw the sign for this place. So it's been two years since they opened, that's amazing! Today's special is the all-in-one special. It comes with three sheets of seaweed, or maybe 1.5 sheets since they're cut in half? Plenty of bamboo shoots, lots of green onions, and I added extra green onions because it seemed a bit lacking. Probably plenty already, but I added the famous melt-in-your-mouth chashu, shredded chashu, and a deluxe version of the melt-in-your-mouth egg! As for the taste, the abundance of chashu really enhances the flavor of the soup. The amount of toppings for the noodles is impressive. The taste is somewhat nostalgic, reminding me of the past. The soup this time has a nostalgic feel to it and it's great. There's quite a lot of chashu besides the rolled ones. It's so tender that it's hard to pick up with chopsticks. Definitely order the rice. It has everything you need like bamboo shoots and egg, except for the seaweed (laughs). It was a bit pricey, but I was very satisfied. Even though I say it's pricey, it's only 1100 yen. It's a price you often see at pasta restaurants. Young people might not believe that there used to be long lines for this ramen, but it was a huge trend back then. Surviving in Kyoto's fiercely competitive ramen district is tough, but this place is truly talented and has what it takes to make it.

★★★★☆Sugi Chiyo, the ramen of youth! I learned about its sudden revival from my college days soccer club junior, Ibuki. It seems it opened about 2 years ago. It used to be located along Kuzuno Ooji Street in Uzumasa Yasui, and during my college days, my soccer club friends and I used to go there all the time. It had been about 25 years since I last had it, but the spicy tonkotsu soy broth with a hint of seaweed, incredibly tender chashu, and slightly firm noodles brought back a flood of memories from those days. It was an amazing bowl of ramen! #SugiChiyo #TonkotsuSoyRamen #RamenShopInKyoto #RamenInstagramApprentice #Ramen #RamenClub #The college days accident scene is near Sugi Chiyo #From real estate appointments to #Kyoto exploration

Char siu ramen for 1050 yen, karaage for 280 yen. Convenient location right by Kawaramachi. Seems like they close at 9, so might not be able to use it before the last train. The taste is basically Kyoto-style soy sauce ramen. It's a bit different, maybe because of the unique seasoning. Not necessarily delicious, but interesting because it stands out. The char siu is tender and juicy, but I prefer something richer, so next time I'll go for regular ramen. The nori topping is also a bit strange. I learned last time that you can order rice with tonkotsu ramen, so I wonder if I should do that here too? There doesn't seem to be a special reason, but when the staff asked if everything was okay with my order, I asked for a recommended side menu item. They suggested the karaage, which was crispy and tasty. It was convenient to have different payment options. I'll come back if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

Order: Negi Chashu appetizer, ramen (regular). Last year, a famous restaurant in Uzumasa reopened in a new location! Although memories from around 30 years ago did not resurface, I was able to encounter a new deliciousness. I never had the Negi Chashu appetizer back then, but enjoying it with a cold beer and lemon wedge made me feel the passage of time. Another day of culinary bliss, thank you for the meal.

On May 3, 2023, I visited "Ramen Sugishiro" near Kyoto Kawaramachi Station to enjoy a delicious bowl of ramen. The easel in front of the store recommended their original pork back fat soy sauce ramen as a must-try. I ordered simply "Ramen (780 yen)" with slightly spicy pork back fat soy sauce soup, medium-thin straight noodles, and tender chashu. The unique flavor of Kyoto pork back fat soy sauce ramen was impressive and quite addictive. Thank you for the wonderful meal! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Ramen for 830 yen. The chashu was very tender. Honestly, the texture was lacking. The taste of the ramen was just average. As someone who prefers lighter flavors, it wasn't really my cup of tea. It seemed like a ramen shop that focuses on chashu, so if you're going to order, the chashu ramen might be better!

Ramen for 780 yen, rice for 150 yen, and green onions for 50 yen. Had lunch here. During cherry blossom season, everywhere is crowded. Even at a place like this, there was a line (laughs). It's a bit tough in the shopping street as usual. The classic type that was popular in the past is reliable, but maybe not many people come here with the intention of eating. However, the level of the chashu was higher than usual.

Shinchiyo has reopened in Shijo Kawaramachi. I had ramen (regular size) for lunch. The soup with plenty of back fat and a touch of spice was very delicious. I realized once again that ramen is a type of snack. It's great news that this famous restaurant has reopened nearby. I will definitely become a regular customer.

I visited a ramen shop in Kawaramachi, Kyoto, which specializes in chicken broth shoyu ramen with plenty of back fat. I ordered the chashu ramen (large) for ¥1,200, added extra green onions for ¥50, and also got two pieces of chicken karaage for ¥250. The chashu ramen had three large slices of chashu that were so tender they easily fell apart when picked up with chopsticks. The ramen itself had a classic Kyoto shoyu flavor that I personally enjoy. The karaage was crispy on the outside and had a delicious snack-like texture. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal.

Instagram account: @yunnaramen. [Restaurant Name] Ramen Sugichiyu @ Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto [Menu Name] Ramen 830 yen I heard that Sugichiyu, which used to be in Uzumasa, has been revived and I've been wanting to go there for a long time. The owner is the same as before, even though I don't remember the taste from when I was a child. The Kyoto-style ramen has a rich pork bone and chicken broth with a spicy accent from shichimi pepper. It's the quintessential Kyoto ramen taste that I remember. The tender chashu that melts in your mouth goes well with rice. They also offer fried rice and fried chicken, and many customers seem to enjoy hearty meals. The atmosphere is very Kyoto-like with lots of Kansai dialect being spoken. It was so nice to be able to enjoy this nostalgic bowl of ramen again. Thank you for the meal. The shop was clean and gave a good impression. The soup was somewhat light and a bit lacking in flavor, but the chashu was really delicious. I added a seasoned egg as a topping, and it was definitely worth the extra charge! The yolk was creamy, so be sure to try it. I also ordered the chashu rice bowl as an extra, and it was a great choice. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I visited a ramen shop that is said to have recently been revived, representing the now deceased Kyoto. The shop was discovered on a narrow path off the bustling "Kawaramachi Street" where the previous liveliness is returning. The interior of the shop has a somewhat izakaya-like atmosphere, with the kitchen on the left and about 10 counter seats along the wall. The menu consists of only one type of ramen, with options for toppings, rice dishes, side dishes, and drinks. I ordered the "chashu ramen" and it arrived after a short wait. The soup is a soy sauce base with chicken and pork, topped with lard. The noodles are thin and straight, slightly on the softer side. The toppings include three tender chashu slices, menma, seaweed, and green onions. I left some soup behind as I finished my meal, as the umami flavor from the meat was weak and the lard and spice did not stand out. Overall, I found the ramen at "Tengu Tokiwaten" to be more robust in flavor. The service was good. Accessibility for wheelchair users is okay, with a washlet on the right side in the center, but there is no parking available.

I used to love this restaurant. When I was a college student, I had to drive there just to go. Suddenly, it closed down, but it recently reopened in Shijo Kawaramachi. I ordered the char siu ramen. It tasted just like it used to - tender char siu with a spicy soup. It was delicious and nostalgic.

The store that used to be in Uzumasa was temporarily closed, and about a year ago it was revived in Shijo Kawaramachi. The ramen is a traditional soy sauce and pork broth style ramen, similar to Ramen Tengu or Chin'yuu. As usual, the chashu crumbles easily when picked up with chopsticks, making it appetizing.

I visited "Sugichiyo," located about a 3-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station across Shijo Ohashi. It's a hidden gem in Kyoto where you can enjoy delicious ramen without having to wait in long lines like other popular spots in the city. I arrived around 11 am and the restaurant was almost full. I ordered the ramen (750 yen) and it arrived in less than 10 minutes. The soup, made from a pork base with a hint of chili pepper, was amazing. The vegetables in the soup added a nice touch, just like I remembered from when I first tried it years ago in Uzumasa, Kyoto. The combination of the spiciness from the chili pepper and the richness of the floating back fat, along with the thin straight noodles, was perfect. The simple layout of the ramen bowl gives it a sense of stability, making it a ramen dish that you can enjoy every day without getting tired of it. It was a delicious meal!

I visited for lunch for the first time. It was around 12:00 on Saturday, but I was able to be seated without waiting. I had the regular ramen (780 yen). The soup was said to have pork fat in it, but it was actually very light. The noodles were thin and the chashu was soft and delicious.

★Ramen (Regular) ★Chahan (fried rice) ★Karaage (fried chicken) ★Negi Chashu (green onion with roasted pork) ★Lemon Sour ★Highball A renowned restaurant has made a comeback! Although I didn't know its previous version, the soup is a rich and creamy soy sauce broth with floating pork fat. It has a hint of spiciness, but even those who don't like spicy food can enjoy it. The chashu pork is tender and melts in your mouth. The Negi Chashu is so delicious that it makes you feel like you can drink endless amounts of alcohol. The mustard served with it complements the dish perfectly. The fried rice is moist and flavorful, perfect for those who prefer it over the dry and fluffy kind. The service was attentive and thoughtful, making it a wonderful dining experience. I read reviews saying that the restaurant was delicious even before its revival, but it was already very tasty now. I look forward to seeing how it continues to evolve!
