At the entrance of Masugata Shopping Street in Demachiyanagi, there is a famous shop called Futaba known for their daifuku. During the peak autumn season, there was a long line stretching across the main street, but you can easily buy them here without waiting. The mugwort flavor is easy to eat and not too sweet. The size of the daifuku is also easy to manage. I also bought some demon manju, which seems like it will last long. I'm grateful for the affordability of two for ¥220.

This is a traditional Japanese sweets shop located in the Masugata Shopping Street in Demachiyanagi. It may not be as famous as "Futaba" nearby, but it is more affordable. I went in the evening and got a great deal - 2 pieces of chestnut mochi for half price. I paid 160 yen for 2 chestnut mochi, which was a really good deal. I took them to the Kamogawa River nearby to eat. The chestnuts were big and chunky, with plenty of sweet red bean paste, and it was delicious. The mochi was soft and chewy, just like mochi from a traditional mochi shop. I was very satisfied. There were a lot left unsold that day due to the bad weather, so I wish I had bought more. But since they need to be eaten on the same day, I plan to try different kinds of mochi next time.

The shop in the shopping street wrapped up the salted rice cake for me to eat on the spot, which was very helpful. I bought a salted rice cake. The rice cake was soft and chewy, and the beans were surprisingly firm. There is a famous Futaba-san store nearby, but it was nice to taste something different here. They also have Yatsuhashi and other souvenirs, making it a good place to buy gifts. Thank you for the meal!

I visited Kyoto during Golden Week. I went to this shop near Demachi Futaba. I have a sweet tooth, so I bought some sweets at Demachi Futaba before visiting this shop (lol). The shop is located inside an arcade in the shopping street. They sell their products face-to-face at the showcase. On that day, two older ladies were selling the sweets. There was no line, so I could buy them easily. - Minazuki (sweet rice cake): It is chewy and the mildly sweet red bean paste is delicious. The texture is addictive. - Yomogi mochi (mugwort rice cake): The soft mochi with the aroma of mugwort and soybean flour is nice. The prices are reasonable, so you can enjoy them without any worries. Thank you for the meal.

The red bean paste inside the mochi was delicious, but the outer beans were a bit too firm for my liking. Unfortunately, the nearby famous shop was closed so I visited this place instead, but it didn't suit my taste. Sorry.

It is located in a shopping street just a short walk from a nearby bean cake shop (*^^*). I bought black sugar uiro... The uiro here has a chewy texture that I like (*^▽^) The black sugar flavor that comes through is so good~✨ Buying it was the right choice. It is sold in many different shops, but I prefer the type without anything on top❣️ I was able to encounter delicious uiro after a long time ✨(≧∇≦) It was delicious. Thank you for the meal ✨❣️

I had a set of mackerel sushi and udon at "Manjukata-ya" in Demachiyanagi's Demachi Masugata Shotengai, and as soon as I left the store, I found a Japanese sweets shop right in front of me, so I decided to take a look. (It's called "Otafukuya"). They had ohagi, mochi, red rice, and other comforting sweets. This time, I bought kashiwa mochi to take home - they had three types: with whole bean paste, smooth bean paste, and Kyoto-style white miso paste. I chose the smooth bean paste and Kyoto-style white miso paste. The miso kashiwa mochi was 160 yen, and the kashiwa mochi with whole bean paste was 130 yen. I enjoyed them at home. The mochi was smooth on the surface and had a nice chewy texture. The flavor of the kashiwa leaf added a nice touch. Inside, there was plenty of sweet bean paste. I've been quite into the white miso paste version of kashiwa mochi since I bought it at another store a while back, and I really liked it this time too. (Of course, the whole bean paste version was also delicious). Thank you for the meal!

When it comes to Demachiyanagi, another famous wagashi shop always has long lines. This shop is located just a short walk into the nearby shopping street. There were customers coming in constantly. Since it's cherry blossom season, I bought some sakuramochi and sanshoku dango. The prices were reasonable and I was able to buy them quickly, which was great. On my way back, I passed by the shop with the long line, and the queue stretched all the way across the street towards Demachi Bridge. When I got home and ate with my family, the sakuramochi had a nice aroma of salted cherry blossom leaves. The mochi was soft, and the sweet red bean paste was just the right level of sweetness and very delicious. Next time, I'll try buying a different wagashi.

On a certain day in August 2018, I visited the holy land of Tamako Market in Demachi Masugata Shopping Street. I bought a souvenir for my family, a chestnut mochi for 130 yen each. I packed them in my backpack and rode my bike back home, causing them to get a bit squished. The mochi has red bean paste and chestnuts inside. Despite the light rain, there was plenty of filling so I was satisfied. At Tamako Market, the heroine's shop also sold chestnut mochi, but it seemed similar to the ones from Otayafuya. I couldn't help but wonder if this place was the model for "Tama-ya" that appeared in the show. It was a delicious meal.

I stopped by a traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Demachi Masugata Shotengai while taking a walk and bought delicious and affordable Ohagi for 150 yen and Minazuki for 150 yen (tax included). I enjoyed them under the shade of a tree by the Kamo River.

The rice cake and sweet red bean paste around it are too sweet for me. The miso flavor in the paste is strong, which may not be liked by some people due to its fermented smell.

I used a takeout service for Kyoto-style sweet bean paste kashiwa mochi. I wasn't very familiar with this type of dessert, but it was nice and Kyoto-like.

I have a friend who is a traditional Japanese painter in Kyoto, and one day he gave me a gift. At first glance, it looked like onigiri or pickles, but he said, "I love these Yatsuhashi the most." Yatsuhashi? Do Kyoto people eat Yatsuhashi?! I was surprised, but I tried it. It looked more like warabi mochi than Yatsuhashi, but the unique scent of cinnamon... When I took a bite, it was so chewy and stretchy. The spice aroma on the powder coating spread out as the Yatsuhashi melted in my mouth. The combination of the chewy Yatsuhashi and the cinnamon aroma was just delightful. It was so soft and satisfying, leaving a solid feeling in my stomach. It didn't feel heavy like when you eat Western sweets, but rather light and refreshing. It was a fulfilling treat that you can enjoy alone or share with family and friends. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I visited a shopping street after a long time. I found a traditional Japanese sweets shop and bought chestnut rice cakes, mugwort daifuku, and three-color dango. It's an old-fashioned sweet shop. I couldn't resist buying some sweets while shopping. The prices were reasonable and I think it was good. Thank you for the treat.
