New Year's Eve 2022. I was thinking of eating soba, but ended up having Chinese-style ramen instead. Today, I dined at the Ramen Fujii Otema-suji store owned by Kondo Seimen. I used to go to Ramen Fujii a lot when it was near Kyoto Family. After that, I ate it a few times in Omi, and the last time was near Ano-Tsu Station. I met it again for the first time in a while at the Otema-suji store since the beginning of Reiwa. This time, I ordered the Special Extra Large Ramen with firm noodles. As of December 2022 (tax included), it costs 900 yen. The Otema-suji store used to have low prices, with regular ramen priced at 450 yen at the beginning of Reiwa, but after the 10% consumption tax increase, it has risen in price and as of December 2022, it is 600 yen. Still, excluding station ramen, it is considered to be in the low price range. At Ramen Fujii Otema-suji store, the regular ramen is soy sauce ramen, and the special ramen is chashu ramen. There is also miso ramen for those who prefer it. The special ramen comes with extra toppings of green onions, bamboo shoots, and chashu, with medium-thick straight noodles. The soft texture of Kondo Seimen's noodles also becomes firmer when ordered firm, resembling a firm soba. The soup is a pork-based soy sauce soup, similar to Daiichi Asahi, but with a slightly clearer impression. This aspect may vary depending on personal preference, but it is finished with a refreshing pork soy sauce flavor. The chashu is on the lighter side, and even with the extra chashu in the special, the umami flavor is mild. Overall, it has a well-balanced seasoning and captures the charm of traditional Kyoto ramen. I ended the year with delicious Kyoto soy sauce ramen once again.
