I enjoyed a wonderful Kyoto kaiseki lunch at Hanayanagi in Kyoto's Pontocho district after a long time! The restaurant is located in a quaint alleyway with a Kyoto-like atmosphere, and the interior is truly magnificent. I made a reservation for the 6050 yen lunch kaiseki through the website called Ikyu. First, I had yuba tofu with ankake sauce, which was delicious with its elegant dashi flavor and the richness and sweetness of the soybean yuba. The sashimi included flounder, amberjack, and bluefin tuna, all of which were fresh and delicious. I paired the meal with Tamano Hikari sake, which was a perfect match for the sashimi. The nimono dish was steamed sea bass with dojouji, leaf wasabi, bubu arare, and silver bean paste. The dojouji had mugwort kneaded into it, adding a wonderful aroma and chewy texture. The yakimono dish was grilled ayu with salt, okra and perilla seeds, and chimaki. The small ayu fish could be eaten whole from head to tail, a unique way to enjoy them. The agemono dish was sesame tofu with fried shrimp and fushimi chili pepper. For the meal, I had chirimen sansho rice, red miso soup, and pickles. The dessert was strawberry, orange, and warabi mochi. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff provided detailed explanations of each dish, making it a truly hospitable experience. It had been two years since my last visit, but I was extremely satisfied this time. It was a luxurious treat that I rarely indulge in. Thank you for the wonderful meal, Hanayanagi.

I was able to experience a riverside dining at a reasonable price. Since it was during the day, it was a bit hot to have hot tofu, but I think it was good value for money. The yuba rice was quite filling, so even though I ate the course little by little, I ended up feeling full in the end.

It was very delicious. Each dish was made with great care, and the dashi broth was incredibly refined and wonderful. I was surprised at how simple dishes like yudofu could be so delicious. The tea-marinated bonito rice bowl in particular was exquisite. I want to eat it every day. The retro atmosphere of the restaurant adds a nice touch. The service was also friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Thank you very much, I will definitely come back and I want to recommend it to my friends.

First visit to a cool bed. It had a great atmosphere indeed. It was just before 7:00 PM and not too hot, with a pleasant breeze blowing. It was nice to enjoy this kind of feeling along the Kamogawa River in Kyoto! The course meal and all-you-can-drink were included for 9,000 yen including tax. I consider it more as a seating fee than a cost performance.

Together with my mother. There were some anxieties at first in a new restaurant, but the food was good. The pike conger and sweetfish were delicious as expected, and the breeze from the Kamo River became pleasant at night. From our table on the riverside platform, we could enjoy a lovely moment watching people strolling by and the dimly lit city.

I chose a seat where I could eat while looking at the river outside. Each dish was elaborate and very delicious! I wanted my Korean friends to enjoy Japanese cuisine, so I chose this restaurant and they were pleased! It was helpful that they had an English version of the drink menu.

This is a shop where you can feel the best atmosphere of Kyoto. It is located in Pontocho, and although the entrance is a bit hard to find, it adds to the charm of Kyoto. I had a kaiseki meal. The appetizers were beautifully arranged and delicious, just as expected. The sashimi was thickly sliced and tasty. For the main dish, I had a wild boar hot pot, made with Kyoto-style sweet miso broth. The meat was tender and had no gamey taste or toughness. I forgot to take a photo of the meat presentation... I will definitely go back!

This was my first time experiencing a course meal on a bed. I was advised to make a reservation for 5:00 pm if I wanted a good seat, so I did. It turned out to be the right decision. As time passed, I was able to enjoy various views from sunset to night. Even though it was early October, it got chilly at night. They have a limited number of blankets available for rental, so I recommend being prepared. With the beer, sake, and highball that complemented the course meal, the price adds up quickly! I enjoyed delicious food in a great atmosphere. Thank you for the feast.

Yesterday, after shopping, I went to Pontocho for food and drinks. It was my first time coming to Pontocho for work, and it seems like a trend now. The restaurant was located on the Sanjo side of Pontocho, a bit hidden with a quaint entrance. The building was originally a tea house and has a history of 100 years, which you can feel through the creaking of the stairs. It had a secret base-like atmosphere that was quite charming. I tried a course that allowed me to taste a variety of dishes. The Botan nabe (peony hot pot) was different from what I have had in the East, with a unique broth and delicious meat that had no strong flavors. It was a delightful meal.

Every winter, I crave for button-nabe and visit this restaurant. It's been over 5 years now. Since the head chef changed last year, the taste of the button-nabe has also changed. The base used to be a quite rich white miso broth, which was incredibly delicious even just on its own, but now it's a bit lighter, making it feel a bit lacking. The wild boar meat is very tasty, and it's the perfect dish for the cold season. There are few restaurants where you can enjoy delicious button-nabe, so it's a bit disappointing, but I can't forget this taste, so I plan to come back again next year.

This place truly embodies the Kyoto atmosphere with its location deep in the alleyways! The interior of the restaurant is also authentically Kyoto-style! There was a clover-shaped window in the corridor! When I asked for a special request, they made a special course for me, so it ended up being a mix of Japanese and Western dishes, haha. My companion insisted on having a hamburger, so even though it's a traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant, they made one for us, and it was surprisingly delicious! The service was friendly and I really liked it! If you want to experience the true essence of Kyoto, I highly recommend this place. I want to share the genuine Kyoto experience with everyone! ❤️

Around 1:45 pm, there was just a little time left until last order, but I was told it was still okay to come in. I was led to a private room with a table facing the window. Unfortunately, the Kamo River was under construction... If it wasn't for the construction, I could have enjoyed a lovely view while dining. I ordered the "Karyu Gozen" for 2750 yen, which included various dishes and Yuba Ankake Gohan. Each dish was delicious. The dessert was warabimochi. The only downside was that the bill was brought to me while I was still eating. I prefer not to handle money during a meal, so I would have preferred to settle the bill before or after eating. It was a bit disappointing considering how delicious the food was. Thank you for the meal!

A shop located right near the Hanamachi Kaburenjo in Kyoto. It still retains the atmosphere of an old tea house, which is wonderful. The seasonal setting is just right, and dining on the riverside was truly elegant and had the best location. The Kyoto kaiseki cuisine was delicious and the service was impeccable. However, the only downside was that the sake selection was mostly sweet varieties from Kansai. Despite that, it's a great place with a nice atmosphere, so I would like to visit again.

I used it for a consecutive holiday. It was a very pleasant restaurant. After making a reservation, they called to confirm the menu for the day. They also accommodated a special menu for my child that was not on the evening menu. It was a thoughtful gesture. The dish was Botan-nabe.

During Golden Week, I went back to Kyoto with my parents and had lunch together. Since it was a busy time, we made a reservation in advance. We reserved a mini kaiseki course at Hanayagi. Originally, we had booked a private room, but since the open-air seating area had just opened, we decided to have lunch there instead. The weather was nice that day, warm enough to wear short sleeves. The open-air seating area had a canopy overhead, so we were able to enjoy our lunch comfortably. The kaiseki dishes were all delicious and had a Kyoto flair, but the standout dish was the nama-fu dengaku. It was a hit with my elderly parents as well. I would definitely want to visit again if I have the chance.

The food was all delicious with gentle flavors. Especially the yuba (tofu skin) and nama-fu (wheat gluten) were exquisite. The building had an old-fashioned charm which was nice. We sat by the riverside and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

We used a private room with young children, and the hostess and staff were very attentive, making us feel comfortable. The Kyoto duck steak was delicious with no gamey taste, just the right amount of fat, and perfectly rare. The large platter of Omi beef shabu-shabu was also enjoyable. We had fresh bonito and cherry snapper sashimi, making the most of spring ingredients. The restaurant is located along the Kamo River with a beautiful view, and a nice walk before the meal was refreshing.
