As a person from Kansai, I always associated "Mame Daifuku" with Demachi Futaba, and I believe there is nothing better than that. This time, I visited a place in Tokyo known for their Mame Daifuku. I arrived around lunchtime and there was always a line of about 4 customers waiting, showing how popular the shop is. I bought their signature Mame Daifuku and had a taste. The salted beans inside had a subtle saltiness, and the red bean paste was smooth and slightly watery, almost like a smooth sweet bean paste. The beans were large and had a good texture, but the taste was gentle and pleasant, making it easy to finish in one go. It was an incredibly delicious treat.

I bought some bean daifuku and mitarashi dango because Gunkindo at Gokokuji Temple will be taking a break from 7/20 for a while. I bought them with a short wait for 2 people around 12:30. They were full of beans and the sweetness was just right. I will come back to buy them again when they return. #GokokujiGunkindo #GokokujiGourmet #BeanDaifuku #MitarashiDango

I visited the famous sweets shop "Gunrindo" near Gokokuji Station, just a 2-minute walk away. I tried the two of the top three famous soybean rice cakes in Tokyo, "Mizuhō" and "Matsumiya." I arrived around 1 pm on a weekday and there was no waiting line, so I was able to place my order immediately. I bought two soybean rice cakes for 220 yen each. The rice cakes were moist, filled with sweet bean paste, and had a soft texture. The generous amount of beans added a nice crunch, making the whole experience delicious. I enjoyed every bite until the very end.

The plentiful beans give a strong presence to this daifuku. While the sweetness is moderate, the abundance of beans provides a satisfying texture. It is recommended to eat it promptly as the texture and flavor may change slightly the next day.

The other day, I visited the wagashi shop Gunrindo at Gokokuji, mainly for the purpose of enjoying their famous Daifuku. According to my wife, their Daifuku is a specialty and is considered one of Japan's top three Daifuku, which sells out by late morning. When I arrived, there was already a line forming with about five people waiting. After a 10-minute wait, I entered the shop. The shop's main business is making mochi sweets, with the retail sales being a secondary activity. Aside from their famous Daifuku, they also offer red bean mochi, Mizuyokan, Mitarashi dango, and Kanoko. Due to my schedule, I couldn't purchase anything that required refrigeration, so I bought two Daifuku and two red bean mochi. I can't remember the exact prices, but I believe the Daifuku was around 240 yen and the red bean mochi was about 200 yen each. Upon trying them, I found the Daifuku to have a delicate yet sturdy mochi with a generous amount of salty red beans. The sweetness of the red bean paste was well-balanced by the salty red beans, making it delicious without being overwhelming. Both my wife and I finished them in no time. I used to think that the Daifuku from Demachi Futaba in Kyoto was the best, but the refined taste of Gunrindo provided a different yet equally delicious experience, making them both exceptional. I also tried the red bean mochi that I had frozen for later. It was also delicious, with a crispy exterior and a soft interior, blending perfectly with the salty red beans. It's amazing how the addition of sweet red bean paste transforms it into a delicacy called Daifuku. By the way, if you reheat the red bean mochi too much, it may become too sticky, so I found that lightly defrosting it and then toasting it in a toaster for about 2 minutes worked well. The shop has various notes for customers: do not line up before opening, consider coming in the afternoon, large purchases may be limited in quantity, the shop does not have a website or online ordering, and taking photos inside the shop is strictly prohibited.Yet, there are many pictures of the interior of the shop.

First visit, arrived around 12 o'clock with 2 groups of customers ahead of us. We were able to buy the bean daifuku for 220 yen and the Mizuyokan with 3 pieces for 770 yen right away. The bean daifuku had a thin, soft mochi with a good stretch, plenty of red bean paste with a firm texture, a subtle sweetness yet a rich flavor, very delicious. The Mizuyokan was a relatively light type with moderate sweetness, no strong flavor, so we could eat as much as we wanted. The high ratings were well deserved. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal♪

I had always been curious about this restaurant. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat there within 3 hours as I had planned. It ended up being about 4 and a half hours later when I finally tried the rice cakes. They had become a bit hard, but they were delicious with plenty of beans, sweet red bean paste, and a nice balance of saltiness. I understand why it's so popular. Next time, I would like to buy and eat them right away.

It is a long-established famous shop where a line forms from the opening, and it is truly remarkable to maintain its popularity even as times change. Moreover, they compete with traditional methods without succumbing to trends. The balance and harmony of the skin, black beans, and bean paste in their red bean mochi are exquisite. It seems like there may be no red bean mochi surpassing this one theoretically. The "kanoko" made with red beans, which constitute the bean paste, is also delicious as you can taste the red beans well.

The daifuku here is delicious. The well-balanced sweet red bean paste is really tasty. However, since it is additive-free, the expiration date is the same day, so it's better to buy fewer quantities to enjoy it fresh. You could keep it in the refrigerator, but I wouldn't recommend it too much.

Arrived before 1:00pm on May 24th, and miraculously (?) there were only two people ahead of us waiting. I wanted to give some to my colleagues so I ordered 2 pieces x 3. The mother quickly packed them in a bag. Midway through, she said, "They're already done!" which surprised me. When I looked back, there were about 10 people waiting. This place is really popular. After finishing work, I leisurely enjoyed them. Now, how did they taste? Oh, wow, very delicious but a little dry! These are tasty, but the freshly made ones are definitely the best. Are red bean daifuku always this delicious?? Quite a shocking daifuku. Honestly, the mother who packed the bags at the storefront wasn't very friendly, but the taste is good. By the way, no photos allowed inside the store. (There were only a few types of Japanese sweets, so unclear why photos were prohibited.) Rather than a small complaint, I'd prefer to try these daifuku again. Actually, I will definitely eat them again. Thanks for the meal!

When it comes to the top three "daifuku" (sweet rice cakes filled with bean paste) in Tokyo, this place is one of them. I arrived around 11am as there is a chance they will sell out by noon. There was a line, but the ordering and payment process was quick with two separate lines. The menu was simple, and there weren't many people buying in bulk, so I only had to wait for about 7 people. The air was filled with the smell of rice being cooked... perhaps for making the mochi? I ordered the daifuku for 220 yen each. It seems they wrap them in a traditional way when you buy 24 or more, but with only 2, they put them directly in a paper bag. I had them the same day to ensure they were soft. The daifuku was filled with beans and the bean paste was thick. The skin was thin, with 90% of the filling being bean paste. Unlike salted daifuku, this one wasn't salty, so I couldn't stop eating them. It was a simple yet delicious traditional Japanese sweet.

I have tried all three famous bean daifuku in Tokyo, but I prefer this type with the perfect balance of bean hardness and sweet red bean paste. I also tried mitarashi dango and kagomo, but still this bean daifuku is the best. Even though there are long lines on weekends and weekdays before opening, the staff are surprisingly fast. You don't have to wait that long. They often sell out in the afternoon, but it's relatively easy to buy in the morning, making it a great souvenir. Truly a famous Japanese confectionery!

In front of Kodansha is a popular traditional Japanese sweets shop that many literary figures loved. The shop is always crowded with customers. I tried their Azuki bean Daifuku. It has a moderate sweetness, and the strong flavor really stands out among the many varieties of fillings. It's one of the three major Daifuku.

I visited the very popular store right after it opened and tried the "Mame Daifuku". They wrapped it quickly in a nostalgic atmosphere. It was chewy with lots of red beans inside. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I regularly purchase bean daifuku. In Kyoto, "Demachi Futaba," or in Tokyo, "Gunrindo," these two shops stand out. Arriving at the shop just before 12 o'clock on a weekday, there were about 4 customers ahead of me. There was a sign at the storefront saying that today's bean daifuku was already sold out. Feeling shocked, I peeked inside without lining up, and there were bean daifuku lined up. The people in line were buying one after another without any apparent reservations. Taking a chance, I lined up for 2 minutes. When it was my turn, I asked for 4 bean daifuku for 220 yen, and I got them! It looked like there were only a few left, which is why the sold-out sign was displayed, or maybe it's always like this. I have cried before when they were sold out, so I was glad I could buy them this time. If you want to buy some, go in the morning! Absolutely! They once told me over the phone that it would be gone by the afternoon. Now, back home, I had bean daifuku after a long time. The balance of the abundant bean flavor with the strong sweetness of the bean paste is fantastic! The bean paste is elegant, with just the right amount of moisture that does not affect the mochi of the daifuku, neatly wrapped. There is plenty of powder, so your hands won't get sticky, which is great. The balance and taste are so good that I feel like I could eat as many as I want. It's a gem that brings a smile to everyone in the family. Once again, I thought that Gunrindo's bean daifuku is one of the top-class Japanese sweets in Tokyo. I hope this shop continues to thrive. Thank you for the delicious treat!

Sweets Top 100 in TOKYO 45/100 Near Gokokuji Station, in a building district, there is a famous shop called Gunrindo that specializes in Mame Daifuku (sweet bean paste-filled rice cake with beans). I arrived at 9:40 am on a weekday and was the 9th customer in line. Inside the shop, two ladies were taking orders. No photos allowed inside the shop. Reservations are not accepted. The shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays. During peak hours, there is a limit on the number of items one can purchase. Individual packaging is not available. On this day, they had Kashiwa Mochi, but they mentioned that due to ingredient constraints, they will focus on a limited range of products, so Kashiwa Mochi and Mitarashi Mochi will no longer be available. The Mame Daifuku cost 220 yen. The firm beans had a strong presence. The sweetness of the red bean paste filled my mouth, while the whole red beans and the saltiness of the beans each made their own statement, and the lightly chewy rice cake played the crucial role of balancing the flavors perfectly. It was a handsome Mame Daifuku. The Kashiwa Mochi, priced at 240 yen, had a moist and slightly sweet chewy rice cake. I really liked this. It was perfect for the warm month of May.

Visit date: April 29, 2023 (Saturday) Time of visit: 11:30 Number of people in line: 9 One of the three major daifuku in Tokyo. This time, they didn't have ohagi, so I only bought a bean daifuku. The beans are very large and have a strong presence. The moist beans are incredibly delicious. The not too sweet anko can be eaten non-stop. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located at Gokoku-ji Temple. It is known as one of the top three soybean daifuku in Tokyo. Personally, I think this place is the best among the top three. The mochi skin has a good chewiness, making it easy to eat cleanly without getting your hands sticky, and it has a unique texture. The way the sweet red bean paste comes outside is also a new and enjoyable eating experience.

Today, I visited Gunrindo, which is considered one of the top three daifuku sweets in Tokyo and had been on my mind for some time. I arrived just before 1 o'clock on a weekday and was fortunate to find only one group ahead of me. However, by the time I was paying, there were over 5 groups waiting behind me, so I was really lucky. I heard that even on weekdays, they can sell out by this time. I bought the famous bean daifuku for 220 yen each, 6 in total, and also tried the bean mochi for 220 yen and the kanko for 240 yen. The total came to 1,780 yen. The bean daifuku had a nice texture with the bean paste and the mochi, and the taste was not too sweet, perfect for those who like grainy bean paste. The kanko was a sweet made with beans instead of mochi skin, it was elegant and disappeared quickly. The bean mochi had a saltiness that balanced well when alternating with the daifuku. The subtle flavors allowed the natural taste and texture of the beans to be enjoyed, making it delicious. The polite customer service and the deliciousness befitting the reputation of the three-generation daifuku left me extremely satisfied!

I visited around 11:30 am on a regular day. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk from Gokokuji Station. There were already people lining up, so I joined the queue. I think I waited for about 30 minutes. I have been here before, and the menu used to have more options, but now there are only about 3 choices. The sweet bean rice cake is delicious. I recommend it to my friends. The bean mochi is tasty, but if you prefer something sweeter, I think the sweet bean rice cake is better. When I visited in the afternoon, the sweet bean rice cakes were sold out, so I recommend going early if you really want to buy them. I would rate it around 4 because it is very delicious, but the long lines...

During a certain dinner party, I received this as a souvenir from my friend in Tokyo. Thank you so much, Y-san! Since the expiration date was short, I tried it as soon as I got home. There was quite a bit of powder on it, so I brushed it off a little, but the mochi was soft, and the beans inside added a nice texture. It was a pretty large daifuku, but the sweetness was mild, so I could enjoy it even when I was full after a meal. However, the expiration date is short, seems to be only for the same day. It was so delicious that I want to try buying it myself next time.
