You can drink from morning, afternoon, and night... all day long, perfect for those who love to drink, and apparently the most livable city, Akabane. One place that cannot be missed when talking about Akabane is "Marumasu-ya." I happened to have a day off during the Golden Week in May, so it was my first visit in about two years. The store opens at 11 am, but my wife and I decided to go there 30 minutes before opening because we were sure it would be crowded and there would be a line. When we arrived, there was already a line of about 20 people waiting for the store to open. We lined up at the end of the line, and as we waited, the line kept getting longer. Along the way, the staff handed out numbered tickets while checking the number of people waiting. Looking at the numbers, it seemed like we would be able to enter after the first round... so we waited for the opening time with anticipation. The store opened on time, and luckily we got seats at the counter. With a height of about 1.9 meters and a weight of about 0.1 tons, I was happy to have a corner seat... The notice in the store said you can have up to three drinks, so I ordered a small draft beer first. It was almost the same size as a regular medium beer at other places. I also added the famous "Janchu" with 7% alcohol, equivalent to about three regular highball drinks. If you're not strong with alcohol, you might get drunk with this... For snacks, we always order the "carp sashimi" that is often sold out early, the "grilled eel kabuto" that I really wanted to eat this time, my personal favorite "tanuki tofu," garlic-flavored gyoza, and "water dumplings" with a Chinese-style soup that goes well with the garlic. We also ordered my wife's favorite "deep-fried catfish." We enjoyed the drinks and snacks, and the finale was the eel bowl. It was a bit more expensive than a few years ago, but you can still enjoy domestic eel for just over 2,000 yen. After savoring Marumasu-ya after a long time, we paid the bill. I would like to visit again soon. Thank you for the meal.

Famous restaurant in Akabane. Due to early closing, entered before 6pm. There were seats available, not just standing. Older lady took our order. Wanted to try unique dishes only available here like Akabane rice. Had catfish tempura, loach with egg, and raw carp sashimi, all delicious! Ordered beef tripe stew and fried potatoes (with ketchup) for second round. Had large draft beer and lemon sour, around 2000 yen per person. Easy for women to enter, thanks to 90-minute time limit, customers drink quickly and leave. Restroom has one door leading to men's urinals, with a door at the end for women's stalls, requiring a knock before exiting, adding a thrilling element for both men and women.

The eel rice bowl at Marumasu in Kitashakujii was delicious, so I was curious about the main branch. However, there is always a long line. Today, I happened to pass by and was able to get in! It might be a good idea to go on a weekday afternoon. I immediately ordered the premium eel rice bowl! The price is cheaper at ¥3000 compared to Kitashakujii, but the eel is smaller. However, the taste is just as good. I also tried the grilled eel, which was delicious, but I prefer the broiled eel. It was crowded with customers coming in non-stop, but the age group seemed older with many regulars dining alone. The stay time is up to 90 minutes. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant for the first time with a senior colleague. I had the image that there would be a lot of river fish. I ordered the softshell turtle hot pot and carp sashimi. The softshell turtle hot pot had a delicate and elegant flavor. The carp sashimi was refreshing with grated garlic and ginger, and it was delicious. The prices were reasonable and it was excellent. Next time, I would like to try the eel.

Today is a paid day off. I lounged around at the hotel before coming here. Well, if you come to Akabane, you have to come, right? I haven't been here in years. Started with a Junmai Shochu Mojito. Ordered carp sashimi and loach hotpot. I've had carp before, but this was my first time trying carp sashimi. It was firm and not fishy at all, very delicious. The loach had a lot of bones, but since it was simmered, it didn't bother me. It's tasty with extra sprinkling of sansho pepper. I also happened to find grilled eel liver. Ah, so delicious. Finished with cold tofu topped with grated daikon. Very satisfying. I'm full. Thank you for the meal.

On a regular day, I went with two people at 11:40 and we were able to enter without waiting. Amidst the energetic voices of the staff, we toasted with Akaboshi beer. Drinking bottled beer in this atmosphere, especially Akaboshi, was the best. Soon after, carp sashimi was served with vinegar miso. I was surprised by the texture of carp for the first time, but it was easy to eat without any fishy smell. Next, we tried eel head sprinkled with sansho pepper, which was delicious without any peculiar taste and had a pleasant texture. We wanted to try eel liver, but it seems it is only served in the evening. Then, we tried fried taro with snow salt sprinkled on top, which had a thin crispy coating and a moist inside, incredibly delicious. Lastly, we had loach and eggplant cooked together, which was a great snack with the combination of dashi, egg, burdock, and shichimi pepper. It was a fantastic start to the night of bar hopping. Next time, I think I'll have eel and sake. I will definitely come back for the fried taro, it was so good!

I arrived 15 minutes before the weekend. There were already about 20 people lined up. I was given a sticky note like a ticket. Then I was asked for my drink order, so I ordered my usual shochu and mojito. After that, I entered the restaurant and enjoyed dishes like premium grilled whitefish. Thank you for the meal.

I moved from Shibuya to Akabane! I returned to the holy land of Senbero after 4 years. I visited the main store of "Koi and Unagi Marumasu-ya". The only change from 4 years ago is that the store now opens from 11 am instead of 9 am. The stay is limited to 1.5 hours. The atmosphere of the store is as lively as it was 4 years ago. The proprietress also seemed to be in good health. I enjoyed delicious dishes with a large beer in hand. This time, I tried the famous grilled eel dish, which was truly delicious. I also had three large beers with tuna, squid, mackerel, and more as side dishes. It was a fun time!

Second round of drinking in Akabane. We waited for about 30 minutes. We ordered carp sashimi, eel, and chopped tuna. We also got a bottle of Highball to split among three people for a good deal at 400 yen. The eel was fluffy and fatty, melting in your mouth. It was incredibly delicious. I tried carp sashimi for the first time in my life. It wasn't as smelly as I expected, with a crunchy and mild taste. However, I gave up after just one piece.

It's a day off, perfect for a daytime drinking pilgrimage in Akabane, a popular spot where you may have to wait. It's hot, but there's a 90-minute time limit, with one person allowed three drinks, and only one bottle of shochu per person. The turnover is quick. The carp sashimi is fresh and delicious, with no muddy taste. The vinegar miso on the tofu is tasty, and the tofu itself is silky. The cucumber seaweed dish is light and pairs well with alcohol. The grilled eel in the Edo style is plump and sweet, and the sauce is just right. The white grilled eel is also delicious, allowing you to fully enjoy the eel's flavor. The crab miso is served frozen and melts in your mouth, releasing a burst of flavor and aroma. It's a great place to visit again; I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I waited in line for lunch on my day off, but the turnover was fast so I was able to get in after about 15 minutes. I ordered carp sashimi and loach, which are not often found elsewhere, and they were delicious. The other side dishes came out quickly. I tried alcohol for the first time. The bottled chu-hai was cost-effective, so I understand why there is always a line.

When you come to Akabane, you can't miss Marumasuya. It was my first time in Akabane, so I relied on the information from my seniors. It seems like there are certain rules that come with being a long-standing establishment, but since we were newcomers, we were guided through and enjoyed our experience. The sashimi was similar to other places. I was also curious about the neighboring restaurant, Tanuki Tofu, which specializes in eel and carp dishes. I started with the carp sashimi, which I hadn't had in years. Next was the fried squid legs, everything was delicious. Regulars and newcomers alike were treated well, and the meal ended promptly in 90 minutes. Thank you for the feast, we will definitely come back again.

We decided to go on a whim tomorrow morning, which turned into a scorching hot wait in line. We arrived at 10:30am, with an estimated temperature of 35 degrees, it felt like hell. Despite that, after chanting spells like "Tanuki doughnut," "Koi curry," and "Taro fries," we waited for 30 minutes and finally got to experience Marumasu House after a long time. I won't say much more, it was an excellent moment, and I will visit again. Next time, when it's cooler!

My favorite restaurant since I first came here. It's the most comfortable place among all the places where everyone is drinking alcohol during the daytime. The interior has a counter in the shape of a "Co" and a few small table seats. It's usually full, but there are enough seats so you can wait for about 1 group. This time, around 3 pm on a weekday, I waited for about a minute to get in. They let me know that it should be available soon, so please wait a little, etc. This time I sat at a table for the first time. When I sat down, it was so cramped that it felt like I was not sitting but rather fitting in. This is good too. It was a scorching hot day, so I toasted with a cold oolong highball, and it was so good that I felt dizzy. Last time I had the carp sashimi, so this time I went for the live sashimi. I felt the difference, maybe in the texture. When I had it last time, I felt a firmer texture, but this time it felt moist. I found out that "arai" refers to something that is chilled with ice. I ordered the dojo and egg stew? Basically, it's Yameishi, right? The volume and temperature were just right, and it arrived bubbling. Just that makes the alcohol go down smoothly. Generous eggs and plenty of dojo umami, the seasoning is simple but good. Then I added a green tea highball. It was my first time having catfish. I had an image of a scary-faced fish that appears in games, and I thought it would have a peculiar taste, but (lol) it was so delicious! Fluffy and a bit juicy, with no peculiar taste or smell at all. It might be due to the skills of the staff, but I'm very happy with this, so I'm glad it was my first time. And since I've come this far, I'll treat myself a bit with eel and a bit of tsubu. And another green tea highball. The lady at the restaurant said, "It's my third drink already, so drink slowly!" This way of speaking is just amazing. It's a clear tone but kind of warm. I had forgotten that I could only drink up to 3 drinks here. Slow down the pace. The sliced tsubugai, there's plenty of it. I enjoyed the scent of the seashore and the crunchy texture, but I drank slowly. And now, the highlight, the eel. Nicely grilled with shining sauce, it's wonderful. I was thinking of having it grilled white, but when I saw it, the shining sauce was attractive. You can tell the tenderness with chopsticks. When I took a bite, the sweet sauce flavor, fluffy eel, I realized that I was truly enjoying the summer right now. The cute shichimi pepper shaker is also nice. After paying the bill and stepping outside, it was still bright outside, with a sweltering heat and humidity, but I felt a good sense of satisfaction. I still think this is the best choice for day drinking. Thank you for the meal.

After finishing my afternoon plans early, I thought of "Marumasu-ya" in the scorching heat. It felt like I hadn't been there for a long time, maybe about six months. It was Thursday, 4:50 PM, and the sign in front of the store said last order at 6:30 PM. I had more than an hour and a half, so it was fine. There were no waiting customers in this heat. I quietly opened the door and looked around the store. There was an empty seat on the right island, so I sat there. I had never seen the small screens that were set up at each seat before. I wondered why they were set up now, but it might be convenient for solo customers. I sat down and immediately ordered. - Sapporo Draft Beer (Large) 750 - Beef Tendon Stew 500 - Firefly Squid Marinated in Oil 400 - Tuna Sashimi 500 I always order the beef tendon stew first and I love firefly squid, so I automatically ordered them when I saw them on the blackboard menu. I got my beer right away, followed by the firefly squid a minute later, and then the beef tendon stew came after that. The beer tasted great in this heat. It's good even when it's cold. The firefly squid was well-prepared, not too salty, with a luscious flavor. It had a decent amount too. I was happy about that. The beef tendon stew had regained its original wildness. I felt like it had become a bit subdued, but today's stew had big chunks of beef tendon with burdock root, carrots, and other vegetables that tasted delicious. The portion was generous as always. It tasted even better as it cooled down. I'll order it next time too. The tuna sashimi arrived a minute after the beef tendon stew. It looked smaller than the one I had at Mizuguchi on Sunday, and it seemed quite small. But when I ate it, it wasn't bad. - Chilled Sake "Kinzanmai" 800 - Fried Squid 550 - Cucumber Pickles 400 (Total: 3,900) Looking around, many people were drinking the house special jumbo shochu highball for 1,200. But I'm not a big fan of it. My stomach was getting full, so I switched to sake. The chilled sake from Niigata was cold, but the taste of rice was rich, heavy rather than refreshing. I slowly drank it. Normally, I would go for fried squid at Geso-Ten, but today, I was intrigued by the fried squid on the menu board outside the store. The fried squid arrived about 5 minutes after I ordered it. The batter was crispy, the squid inside had a good bounce, tender, and slightly chewy, it was really delicious. I might alternate between ordering this and fried squid at Geso-Ten from now on. I still had some sake left after eating the fried squid. I wanted something refreshing, so I ordered cucumber pickles. A whole cucumber pickle came out. There was also a little bit of daikon pickles on the side. It was crispy and delicious. However, I had trouble finishing it because it was too much for a solo customer. I wonder if they could make a half size? I usually drink too much, but today I managed to go through it relatively smoothly. The choice of snacks was almost perfect. Thanks to that, I had a pleasant time. All in all, in my mind, this is the most reliable place in Akabane. I'll be back for a quick visit. Thank you for the meal (^^)

The dishes were served quickly. The boiled carp had little odor and was reasonably priced. The grilled eel was also quite tasty. With a limit of 3 drinks per person, it may be difficult for heavy drinkers to finish here alone. On Friday evenings, there was a line of about 10 people passing by, so be prepared to either adjust your timing or be prepared to wait in line.

On June 28, 2023, at 10:52 AM, in the past, you could start drinking from 9 AM at Marumasu-ya. However, due to the impact of the coronavirus, they now operate from 11 AM to 7 PM. I met up with a 30-year-old friend at Akabane Station at 10:30 AM, but as usual, he was late. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were already 7 people in line, and shortly before opening, there were over 20 people. Surprisingly, it was a weekday, so I can only imagine how crowded it would be on weekends. I hadn't eaten anything since 12 PM the day before, so I was hungry. I thought I would end my meal with eel rice, but knowing we would go to a second place, I ordered light appetizers. Most people at the restaurant started with a "Janchu-hai" toast. Janchu-hai is a 1-liter bottle of shochu with carbonated water, often enjoyed with a mojito or lemon. I chose lemon with mine. Immediately, the regular elderly customers ordered the "Grilled Eel Head," and I couldn't resist ordering it as well. It was delicious, with no unpleasant smell. The eel head skewers quickly sold out. We also ordered the popular "Tanuki Tofu," which was a cold noodle soup with tofu, crab sticks, cucumber, seaweed, and tempura bits. It went well with the drinks. We also had fried taro and pickled carp, which were both tasty. We quickly finished the Janchu-hai we ordered, totaling ¥4,400 with tax. Before leaving, my friend suggested going for sushi, ramen, or curry for our next stop. I mentioned a ramen and curry place in Kawaguchi with top ratings on Tabelog, so we decided to go there as our second stop. And with that, our first meal came to an end. In Akabane, there is a beloved restaurant called "Marumasuya," founded in 1950 and known for its river fish dishes. Even though it's only 11 am, the place is packed with regulars enjoying the atmosphere. The interior is now non-smoking, creating a refreshing space. The soothing voice of the landlady taking orders fills the room. Starting with a Junmai shochu mojito, we ordered: Carp sashimi (450), Fried taro (450), Tofu topped with grated yam (500), Junmai shochu (1100), Mojito (100). The carp here is raised in clean water at the foot of Mt. Akagi, ensuring no fishy taste. We enjoyed a couple of drinks each and had a great meal.

Today, I went day drinking and sightseeing in Akabane with my friends! Our first stop was Marumasu, a popular eel restaurant. We ordered eel kabayaki, osinko (pickled vegetables), beef tendon stew, and fried squid legs to go with our bottles of Ebisu beer. Everything except the fried squid legs came out super fast (lol). It's a 90-minute time limit, so we drank quickly and left. The eel kabayaki was cheap and delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived at the restaurant at 10:50 am and got a post-it note with "Ro4" written on it to indicate my place in line. The restaurant opened at 11 am, and when I handed in the post-it note, I was shown to my seat. It was my first visit in 7 years since my grandson was in elementary school, and the interior of the restaurant had not changed. I ordered a cold sake in a square wooden cup, which was brought to me right away at the counter seat. I also ordered squid salted innards and grilled eel, but they said they didn't have grilled eel, so I changed it to pickled mackerel. I then ordered turtle rice bowl. The pickled mackerel was served first, and when I was about halfway through it, the grilled eel dish arrived at the counter seat. The eel was on the smaller side, and I regretted not getting the top-quality one. The taste was good, but I wished the grilled eel had been served before the pickled mackerel, even though I had ordered it that way. The combination of dishes was not ideal.
