I finally went to this place that I've been curious about for a while. It was already 11 pm, but there were quite a few customers and it was lively. I ordered the special chashu ramen, but they were out, so I got the mini chashu bowl instead. It was a bit dry and lacking in flavor, not really satisfying. The ramen was okay, kind of like Kyoto-style ramen.

I visited this place again at 11pm. They are open quite late, which is convenient when other ramen shops are closed. The taste is like traditional soy sauce ramen, appealing to everyone. It was a bit crowded when I visited, and the turnover seemed a bit slow at this time. I appreciated the free extra green onions.

I stumbled upon a bustling ramen shop and decided to stop by. I tried the tsukemen, which had a strong and delicious flavor that paired well with the thick noodles. It was amazing. Next time, I'll try the chashu bowl, fried rice, and other rice dishes as well.

The restaurant is located further west from Tenkaippin at the west exit of Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi. It was dinner time and there were many foreign tourists, with only the manager and two staff members running the place. I ordered the "Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen Large" from the male staff, but the ramen never arrived. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I complained and found out that my order had not been processed. They quickly made the ramen. When it finally arrived, it had chashu, egg, and half-boiled egg in it. I thought maybe they gave me a free upgrade due to my complaint, so I finished it and when I checked the bill, it showed 1200 yen, the price for the "Chashu Special Ramen" with chashu and egg. I didn't understand why, but I ate it and silently paid the bill before leaving. They made two mistakes in a short time, so they definitely need to improve. The ramen had a salty soup base.

Kyoto Ramen Research Institute is located about a 5-minute walk west from the Hachijo exit of Kyoto Station. I visited for the first time around 7:30 in the evening. The place was about 80% full. I sat at the counter, and next to me, a person of Eastern European descent was enjoying their ramen. Looking around the restaurant, I noticed many Indian customers at the table seats. Perhaps due to its proximity to Kyoto Station, there were quite a few foreign tourists. The staff, all seeming to be in their early twenties, were friendly and provided cheerful service. They also interacted with foreign customers in broken English with a smile. I ordered the shoyu tonkotsu ramen and chashu don (half-size set). The ramen had a slightly sweet soup, tasting like a typical ramen. The chashu was very tender and delicious. The chashu don, even in half-size, was quite filling, and the flavor of the chashu was excellent.

Although it claims to be "traditional," the flavor is quite strong with garlic and back fat. You can choose from three types of soup: soy sauce tonkotsu, Japanese-style tonkotsu, and light. The soy sauce tonkotsu has the best balance in my opinion. The noodles, except for the light option, are low-hydration medium-thick noodles with a delicious flavor. The light option has low-hydration extra-thin noodles, which can sometimes be too soft and lacking in texture. Due to the light soup, the garlic flavor is more pronounced. The shrimp-filled wontons are likely store-bought frozen ones, but they are soft and well-cooked, although they can be a bit watery when eaten separately from the soup.

The secret sauce made with soy sauce as a base and without any chemical seasonings, combined with a rich soup simmered with Kyoto pork bones for over 12 hours, creates a deep and delicious flavor. The chashu made with Kyoto pork is tender and flavorful. They offer a variety of ramen and set meals, which is great. Thank you for the delicious meal. #Gratefulforlife

I had a salt-flavored light tonkotsu ramen. It was on the lighter side but still had bits of pork fat in it. There was a good amount of red pickled ginger and green onions, which was nice. The egg was also seasoned well and tasted good. However, overall it was just average. The turnover rate wasn't great, and I had to wait for a while, which slightly lowered my rating. Looking forward to further improvements in the future!

Today's lunch was at "Kyoto Ramen Kenkyusho" in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City. This ramen shop has been around for quite some time and has a somewhat eccentric exterior. It used to be a vacant lot next door, but now they have a partnership with a coin parking lot where you get 25 minutes free. The interior is narrow with counter seating on one side and booth tables on the other. The menu is displayed all around the shop, with a comprehensive menu list available. They offer a wide variety of ramen options based on their research. I decided to go with the classic "Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen" for 780 yen. They have various condiments for flavor customization. The ramen that arrived looked rich and flavorful. The soup had a strong pork bone flavor but was not overpowering, making it easy to drink. The noodles were thick and straight, providing a satisfying texture. The bamboo shoots were tender, and the chashu was thin but well-seasoned. The research institute, which has been conducting studies for many years, continues to offer a consistently delicious taste.

It's like traditional soy sauce tonkotsu ramen. The simple seasoning is delicious. It has plenty of pork fat. It doesn't quite bring back memories of the past, but it does evoke a nostalgic feeling. The fried rice was also delicious.

Hello, this is 4Nyokki. I went to the Kyoto Ramen Research Institute. The name sounded familiar, like something I've known for a long time. When it comes to Kyoto ramen, Ichijoji is popular and the rest are scattered around, so I never really had the habit of going south of Kyoto Station for ramen. I finally started exploring the major ramen shops around Kyoto Station, but I've only covered about 60% so far. I recently visited Yamazaki Menjiro, and decided to try places based on what I want to eat rather than what's trending. That's how I ended up at this place. I arrived at 1 pm after watching a movie, and it was crowded. I wanted to try the fried rice and dumplings, but the set menu was confusing, so I opted for the Special Seared Chashu Ramen (1200 yen). It took about 4 minutes for the ramen to arrive, and it looked like this (image). The soup was delicious, different from the usual tonkotsu shoyu, with a unique flavor that was hard to pinpoint but very tasty. The regular chashu was well-cooked and flavorful. And the seared chashu was not only delicious but also very thick. It was my first time trying seared chashu that was actually seared, and it was amazing. The noodles were straight and well-cooked, but I felt the balance between the noodles and chashu was off. I would recommend getting the large portion if you want more noodles. Overall, the meal was worth the 1200 yen, especially considering the quality and quantity of the chashu. The menu could use some improvement to make it more exciting and easier to navigate. The marinated bamboo shoots and green onions were also delicious. It felt like a good deal, maybe even underpriced considering the quality of the food.

Today I had work near Kyoto Station, so I decided to visit Ramen Kenkyusho, a place I've been curious about for a while. I heard from a senior that their fried rice is famous, so I chose the tonkotsu shoyu ramen and mini fried rice set. It arrived in just 5 minutes! The ramen had a generous amount of green onions and a rich, flavorful soup. I loved the boldness of the scattered pork fat on top. The mini fried rice was also delicious with a strong flavor. The constant stream of customers makes sense. And all this for just 1050 yen at lunchtime! Great value! I'll definitely come back. Thank you for the meal!

Good evening ( ̄Д ̄)ノ This is Pekkorino Fujian's dinner tonight~♬ A restaurant that I have been curious about for a long time, every time I passed by, finally, I visited today. Yes, it's here, Kyoto Ramen Kenkyusho (located at 17 Nishikujo Yokomachi, Minami-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture). As a fan, I couldn't overlook a restaurant with this name. I parked my bike in front of the shop and entered. Inside, there are table seats on the left and counter seats on the right. I sat at the counter in the back. I checked the menu and decided to go with the recommended soy sauce tonkotsu ramen and fried rice set (full set for 1200 yen). On the table, there were salt, pepper, chili oil, grated garlic, garlic with chili, and more. I could hear the sound of frying rice and a nice smell. After a while, the soy sauce tonkotsu ramen and fried rice arrived almost at the same time. This is important! The visuals are very Kyoto ramen style, and the fried rice even comes with pickled ginger, which is a nice touch. I started with the soup, and the soy sauce flavor slowly spread in my mouth, followed by a rich broth. It was delicious. Although it says tonkotsu, there are various other ingredients like seafood, kelp, dried fish, etc. I may not have a refined palate, but I can tell this is tasty. The noodles are typical of Kyoto ramen in appearance, texture, and flavor. The green onions, bamboo shoots, and chashu were also delicious. I enjoyed the fried rice with the ramen, and it was a great combination. Towards the end, I added grated garlic for an extra kick. I finished everything and it was delicious. This ramen was well-researched and tasty. Ordering the set with fried rice was a good choice. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal!

Recently, I wanted to eat the old Yokozuna ramen! The porky one! So I went to Kyoto Ramen Kenkyusho! The smell in front of the shop is amazing, with a strong porky soup smell reminiscent of the old Yokozuna ramen shop! I went in and ordered the shoyu tonkotsu ramen with half fried rice set! Surprisingly light! I was expecting a soup with a stronger porky flavor, but it was completely different from what I imagined! However, it was delicious ramen! I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I am on a business trip to Kyoto for the first time in a while, staying for one night. It has probably been since last autumn that I visited Kyoto. In the past, I used to come to Kyoto almost every week, but things have changed drastically around me, partly due to the pandemic. In such a situation, my business trips are no longer about entertaining clients with meals, as many big companies still have travel restrictions in place. Therefore, I had to come to check the equipment and make sure everything is in order before delivery, and then confirm with the client again. Tonight, I am free for dinner and decided to try this restaurant that I have been curious about for a while. I was a bit hesitant to bring clients here before, but going alone removes that constraint. In the evening, a sudden shower in Kyoto cooled down the heat of the day, so I went to the restaurant around 6:30 pm. There were about four customers at the counter when I arrived. I chose the "Gyoza Set Meal" for ¥1000 with soy sauce tonkotsu ramen and ordered extra green onions for free. The ramen had quite a bit of pork fat, as I had expected. The gyoza, however, was smaller than I had anticipated. The portion of rice was a bit generous. The rice didn't have a good aroma, it seemed like it had been left in a jar for a long time. When I started eating the ramen, I found the flavor to be quite bland, almost lacking the expected pork bone taste. It felt a bit thin, but when I avoided the fat and tried a spoonful, there was a different taste. It seemed like the soup was mainly based on the fat. I wondered how it would taste without the fat. The noodles were good, with the fat clinging to them providing a decent flavor. The pork slices were not too soft, but lacked a rich meaty flavor. I ate the gyoza while picking at them and the rice. Occasionally, I sipped the soup. The gyoza didn't have a strong garlic flavor, so I sprinkled some grated garlic on them, which enhanced the taste. Overall, the gyoza were too small for the set meal, but with the addition of garlic, they became delicious. Although I couldn't write many positive things, I believe this is a well-established restaurant with a building that also serves as a residence. I presented a coupon mentioned on Tabelog when paying, and received a ¥50 discount, so the total payment was ¥950.

After finishing my visit to the famous Toji Temple with its five-story pagoda around midday, I was walking towards JR Kyoto Station when I noticed a sign on the south side of Hachijo Street that read "Kyoto Ramen Research Institute." I decided to stop by and check it out. The ramen shop offered three types of ramen: shoyu, traditional Japanese, and light, all priced at 760 yen per bowl. There were counter seats and table seats, with the latter having high acrylic dividers for COVID-19 prevention, giving a semi-private feel. I opted for the traditional Japanese ramen, which featured a tonkotsu (pork bone) broth with bonito and kelp dashi, finished with a subtly sweet miso flavor. The kelp dashi added a nice depth to the soup, and the broth had a rich and creamy texture, similar to Onomichi ramen. The bowl also included two slices of melt-in-your-mouth chashu, green onions, bamboo shoots, and a seasoned egg as toppings. The straight medium-thin noodles paired perfectly with the broth, creating a delicious combination. Adding a bit of garlic chili condiment for flavor variation made the ramen rich and spicy, offering a second enjoyable experience. Since I visited during lunchtime, I received a 60 yen discount, making the ramen 700 yen. Even though it was a small discount, it still felt like a great deal. After walking for about 15 minutes, I arrived at JR Kyoto Station's Higashihachijo Exit. If you ever find yourself in the southern area of Kyoto Station, this ramen shop is definitely worth a visit. I edited the dishes I received into a video, so feel free to check it out at around 45:28 in this link: https://youtu.be/GDw4X7L5js8.

Well, it was the day to return to Hokkaido. I hadn't done anything wrong, but I decided to get a PCR test before going back. When I arrived, there was a long line, but it moved pretty quickly. I didn't have to wait for an hour to get tested. There was an older man who was struggling with the procedure and getting angry, which made me feel sorry for the staff. Hopefully, the pandemic will be over soon. I was looking for a place to eat lunch and found a ramen shop next door. I wasn't too excited about it, but I didn't feel like walking, so I went in. I ordered the Japanese-style tonkotsu ramen. It had a strange sour taste that I didn't really like, and the noodles were too soft. There was also too much oil for my taste. But the green onions were delicious as always. The staff was friendly, so I hope they keep up the good work. Thank you for the meal! Ψ( 'ч' ☆)

I tried two different dishes on different days, but honestly, both of them seemed average without any outstanding features. The only dish that stood out was the chashu bowl with soup poured over it, which I found tasty. It didn't have that intense, rich flavor like at Komeda's Coffee, but there was a hint of sweetness from the fat. The broth had a bit of floating fat, but it wasn't overly greasy. I went back a second time to try their popular menu items, but found that the lack of distinctiveness made it unlikely for me to return for a third visit. I wish there was a research report on what their specialty was so I could understand better.

After enjoying the light-up at Toji Temple, I finally made my way to Ramen Kenkyusho, a place I had been wanting to visit. I ordered the Salt-flavored Light Tonkotsu Ramen and the Seared Chashu Rice Bowl. I usually don't eat tonkotsu ramen, but Ramen Kenkyusho's version was surprisingly light, with a mild tonkotsu flavor enhanced by the red pickled ginger and sesame toppings. The thin noodles were perfectly coated in the soup, making it a delicious meal. The seared chashu in the rice bowl was also delicious, with a nice smoky flavor.

I visited for lunch in the afternoon and the place was quite full. The atmosphere was lively and the staff were not overly friendly, maybe because of the pandemic? The ramen I ordered was a bit salty but still good. However, the grilled pork rice bowl was delicious! The pork and the sauce were tasty, and I especially liked the generous amount of green onions. The pickles were also good.
