I went to In In Do for breakfast for the first time. My husband had the Premium Breakfast for 2200 yen, and I had the Scrambled Eggs Breakfast. We had iced coffee and tomato juice. The hot coffee was free refills. Both dishes came with unlimited bread that the staff brought to our table. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and perfectly seasoned with butter, salt, and pepper - I definitely want to have them again! The potatoes on the side were also delicious. The bread, especially the croissant, was amazing - we both loved it. My husband's breakfast had thick-cut ham that wasn't too salty, and the fried egg was cooked just right, it was really delicious. It was a great start to the day to find such delicious food in the morning. When we come back to Kyoto, we will definitely visit again.

I love piroshki so much! The shop in Yamashina where I first fell in love with them unfortunately closed down, and the other shop is too far away for me to visit often. So, I decided to try the piroshki from this shop for the first time. They also had curry bread with pickled vegetables and pickled cabbage piroshki, maybe for foreign visitors? I went with the regular piroshki. However, when I took a bite, I was disappointed by the dry texture of the dough. The filling didn't have a strong flavor and was a bit bland. The two young female staff at the cash register seemed unfriendly and didn't smile.

Kyoto is known for having many cafes and bakeries that offer morning service, so we chose a hotel without breakfast included for our stay. On the second day, we bought breakfast pastries here. It was just a 2-minute walk from our hotel, Cross Hotel Kyoto, and they open at 7:30 am on weekdays. While their dine-in morning menu looked tempting, we opted for takeout as we weren't too hungry. - Clubhouse Sandwich @ 610 yen: A sandwich with bacon, chicken, tomato, cucumber, and lettuce, toasted and topped with spicy chicken and original aurora sauce. We enjoyed it with coffee back at the hotel for a delicious breakfast. - Pork Frank @ 230 yen: A pork frankfurter wrapped in soft bread. The sausage was not too sharp, suitable for everyone. - Cream Pan @ 260 yen: A delicious custard cream inside a soft and smooth bread. It's a popular item for a reason. - Paris-Brest @ 560 yen: The choux pastry was crispy and fragrant, filled with delicious praline cream. We enjoyed it as a dessert. Shinshindo is a long-established bakery that is essential when talking about Kyoto's bread culture. We were delighted to try some items this time. They also offer intriguing items like the "Shibazuke Curry Pan," so we might revisit during our stay. The eat-in area had many foreign tourists. The pastries are more affordable than the hotel's breakfast menu and delicious, so we recommend it.

The delicious stability of Shinshindo in Kyoto is a must-visit. Their cream bread is exquisite! No matter when you go, there is always a long line for breakfast. The breakfast menu offers different bread than what is available at the storefront... I want to try it next time. ✌

I bought a curry bread with pickled radish. The expiration date is today. It's a new product. The bread had a slightly dry outer crust. When I took a bite, the curry and pickled radish flavors spread at the same time. The pickled radish was crunchy with a mild acidity. The curry was not too spicy, it was mild.

I went out with my child and had the clam chowder set for breakfast. There were several types of bread available for unlimited refills, cut in half or in small sizes, so I was able to try about 6 different kinds. It was a holiday when I visited, so there was a short wait, but my turn came fairly quickly. I might visit again when going out in the morning.

I casually stopped by Shinshindo in Kyoto, which is a highly rated and popular bakery. I got the Banana and Walnut Croquant for 220 yen to take out. It's perfect for a picnic. I love the sweet taste of the crispy dried bananas and the salty flavor of the walnuts. I often buy it. Highly recommended!

Wednesday 7:26 Before the opening, there are already 6 customers lined up at the Sazanami Inui-cho store. It seems their morning menu is quite popular. I join the line behind them. The location at Sanjo Kawaramachi is very convenient. In November 2022, they opened at 7:30. The 8:00 opening time can be busy and affect your commute, so the earlier time is much appreciated. It's best to check their website for detailed information. I enter as soon as they open and order the Special Breakfast Scrambled Eggs for 1,200 yen with a hot coffee. You can get a refill if you choose the hot coffee. As the weather gets colder, it becomes harder to get up early and go outside, so it's nice to have a morning meal. The plate arrives at 7:40 and the bread at 7:44. They attend to each customer individually. There were many types of bread available, and I chose a croissant and a mentaiko-filled French bread. As it gets closer to 8 o'clock, the place fills up quickly, and the waiting customers start to come in, creating a lively atmosphere inside. I had a second helping of bread, choosing a croissant and a raisin bread. It's a nice touch that they allow refills of coffee and bread. However, during busy times, you may have to wait a bit for a refill. The person next to me had to wait a bit for their order to arrive, so it's best to understand that this is a popular spot. The variety of choices for the morning menu makes it convenient. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal. Friday 7:30 I arrived 5 minutes early. There was one person in line, and I joined them. I ordered the Onion Gratin Soup Set for 1,300 yen. Fridays might be a good day to visit. The temperature was below freezing that day, so I was aiming for the soup. At 7:38, they served brioche, croissant, and garlic French bread. The soup arrived at 7:43, piping hot. It was cooked to a caramelized onion perfection, with melted cheese that paired perfectly, making it delicious. The soup was comforting and warming. I also enjoyed the additional raisin and nut bread. (I had two refills of coffee as well.) Since it was December 23rd, I also bought a baguette for my weekend home-cooked meal, which worked out perfectly. Thank you for the meal.

Kyoto is a city known for its traditional culture, but it is also famous as a city of bread, with the highest consumption of coffee and bread in the country. Surprisingly, Tokyo ranks 17th, with top spots taken by Kansai cities like Hyogo, Osaka, Nara, and Okayama. In Kyoto, there are many charming retro-style cafes where you can relax and enjoy the culture of leisurely coffee breaks. From well-established bakeries like Shitsuya known for its Carnet bread and Maruki Seipan famous for its sandwiches, to newer favorites like Tamaki-tei and Puchimekku, Kyoto has a variety of popular bread shops. Among them, Shinshindo stands out as the oldest bakery in Kyoto and a pioneer in introducing authentic French bread, making it a legendary bakery in the world of bread. The menu offers a wide variety of bread, including meal bread, sweet bread, and savory bread. The signature Campanile, made with whole wheat, has a crispy crust and a soft, airy crumb, bursting with flavor. The Melon Pan has a biscuit-like outer layer with a hint of rum flavor, while the scones are light and crispy like biscuits. The Anpan, a Kyoto specialty, features a fluffy and delicately sweet red bean paste filling. Shinshindo is a bakery that will make your morning bread-eating experience even more enjoyable. Bon appétit!

I visited the restaurant for breakfast on a weekday morning. It was quite popular, even on a weekday morning, as there was a little bit of a line. I ordered the Onion Soup Gratin set for 1300 yen. When the order arrived, the soup was still piping hot, with lots of onions and very delicious. Also, the best part is that they offer all-you-can-eat bread, with about 7 different types of bread available. The walnut raisin bread was especially tasty.

I felt like eating a lot of bread after a long time, so I went to a bakery. The bread at bakery restaurants is always delicious, which makes me happy. The small size of each piece makes it easy to eat as many as you want. I chose the hamburger as my main dish, which had lots of vegetables in it. The hot hamburger paired perfectly with the bread. The croissant was particularly delicious. In total, I ate 10 pieces of bread. The meal came with a free drink, and you could even get a refill if you chose coffee, which was a great deal.

Kyoto is said to have the highest consumption of bread in Japan, with a strong culture of bread eating and a large number of bread shops. Recently, I have noticed that many sandwich shops in Kyoto use margarine. Personally, I do not have a good impression of margarine and do not like the taste. This time was no exception. I went to this shop on a Saturday evening. The eat-in space was full! The line at the register was also very long. It seems to be very popular. The bread with Trois Fromages cheese was filled with chunks of cheese. The bread itself was not great. It lacked the aroma of wheat, the crispy texture on the outside, and the chewiness on the inside. The amount of cheese was mediocre and did not taste very good. The egg sandwich had a decent amount of filling. The bread was not fluffy, and it had the distinctive taste of margarine that I dislike. Margarine just overpowers everything with its unnatural taste and smell, even if you add mayonnaise or mustard. For those who do not like margarine, it would be better to check the ingredients list before buying a sandwich in Kyoto.

On a morning when I overslept, I had a light brunch at Shinshindo around noon. The French toast at Ante was as delicious as ever. Perhaps because it was the weekend or because there were hotel guests, the restaurant was full. Local customers were enjoying their set meals with unlimited bread, reading newspapers and relaxing elegantly. A must-visit spot in Kyoto, whether near the station, Isetan, or Kitayama store. 😊

I realized that going out in Gifu City or Kyoto City is the same, so I watched a movie in Kyoto City. First, I had breakfast at Shinshindo, which I am currently obsessed with. 09:30 Entered the store, sat down, and placed an order. 09:40 Bread service. 09:50 Scrambled egg plate arrives. [Summary] Special Breakfast/Scrambled Egg Plate 1200 yen Includes bread service, scrambled egg plate, and a drink. Bread service included retro baguette, garlic French bread, raisin bread, and brioche. The raisin bread had walnuts in it, providing a good texture and delicious taste. Scrambled Egg Plate (sausage, scrambled eggs, salad, potatoes) The sausage was thin but meaty, about 10mm thick and 150mm long. Chewing released the umami and fat. The scrambled eggs were rich and fragrant with butter, creating a smooth texture. The salad included lettuce, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes. The potatoes were small half-cut pieces, and tasted even better with mustard. I chose iced coffee as my drink.

On a family day trip to Kyoto during the Obon holiday, we stopped by Shinshindo in the morning to pick up breakfast for the next day. [Summary] Burnt butter French toast 300 yen A cylindrical French toast with a diameter of about 70mm and a thickness of 50mm. When warmed in a toaster, it became slightly burnt. The outside is crispy, while the inside is fluffy. The top is really crispy due to the butter. It has a rich flavor that envelops the entire toast, with a gentle sweetness that is incredibly delicious. It's the type of dish that you can't stop eating once you start. North Mountain Melon 180 yen A melon pan with a diameter of about 80mm and a thickness of 30mm. The thin cookie layer and fluffy bread part are clearly distinct. As soon as you take a bite, a fragrant rum aroma gently wafts up. The sugar is sweet but not overwhelming, balanced with the sweetness of the wheat, and has a refreshing aftertaste. It's a light and enjoyable melon pan that adults would appreciate.

During the Obon holiday, my family of four went on a day trip to Kyoto. This time, we visited Shinshindo, a place we don't usually go to. 09:25 Entered the restaurant, seated, and placed our order 09:35 Drinks arrived 09:40 Food arrived [Before moving on to the food review...] Compared to the Teramachi branch we often visit, this place had more booth seats and felt like a hotel. [Summary] Fromage Blanc and Bacon Pizza - 990 yen A set of pizza toast plate and a drink. The pizza toast plate was about 140x80mm in size, 20mm thick, cut into three pieces. Toppings included bacon, white mushrooms, and onions. The crust was crispy and made a nice sound. The layers of bacon and mushrooms, the sweetness of the onions, and the richness of the cheese filled my mouth with each crunchy bite. It came with a handful of lettuce salad. Drink - Espresso Deep flavor with acidity. Beet and Potato Cold Soup [Glass] - 400 yen The soup had a bright pink color like ruby chocolate. It was not ice-cold but had a slight coolness. The sweetness and umami of beets, the sweetness of potatoes, and the creaminess all came through one after another. The buttered crispy bread was like a salted butter rusk and was delicious.

Salt bread ¥130 Honestly, it's too simple. The inside is hollow with butter or margarine spread and flavored. I think rock salt is good. However, that only applies to the center. The ends are lacking in aroma and flavor, and the texture is like a regular bread loaf. It's disappointing that you can't feel the deliciousness with the first bite.

I like having breakfast at hotels, but I also think it's nice to eat outside since it's a special occasion. When I looked around, I found various options like traditional Japanese breakfast, local cafe breakfast, and Kyoto vegetable breakfast. Kyoto seems to be quite good at business. I've always liked Shinshindo's bread, and I've been wanting to try their morning set for a few years now. I had stopped by a few times before, but it was always crowded. This time, I was lucky and got in straight away. The morning set menu had a luxurious set, but it seemed a bit pricey and had a lot of food. Since I might be snacking while walking around the city, I opted for the soup set, which seemed to have a reasonable amount of food. The onion soup was delicious! It made me feel luxurious from the morning. And the all-you-can-eat bread was great. The staff came around and I kept asking for more. There were about 10 different kinds of slightly small bread. In the end, I enjoyed them so much that I ate too much and ended up full. It's a bright, nice cafe. Right now, there aren't many people, so I could easily get in. But I think it will get crowded eventually. If I have to wait a long time, I might go somewhere else, but I will include it in my morning walk route in the hope of being seated quickly.

I went on a day trip to Kyoto from morning till night with a friend who knows Kyoto well. I will share the breakfast we had there today. There are many Shinshindo stores in Kyoto city. There are restaurant type, cafe type, and bakery type. I wanted to have a leisurely breakfast, so I went to the restaurant type store in Sanjo Kawaramachi. The breakfast menu was extensive, and I had a hard time choosing, but I went with the Special Breakfast which included scrambled eggs. The Premium and Special options come with all-you-can-eat bread, including croissants, walnut bread, and butter, and I ended up eating a total of four pieces. The plate also included salad, sausage, and warm vegetables, making it a nutritious start to the day. The bakery had many delicious-looking bread, and I wanted to buy some to take home, but I restrained myself as I didn't want to spoil my appetite for lunch. My friend ordered a lighter option with toast included. We arrived around 10:20 on a Sunday and had to wait for about 3 groups, so it seems popular even at a later hour. Make sure to go with some extra time to spare.

On Sunday, my wife went to Kyoto for a recital for her lessons. A dozen or more people gathered for lunch, but some were delayed due to unavoidable circumstances. It was quite a challenge. She returned home after saying, "I had a good time," around 8:00 PM. By then, I had already finished my dinner. The bread she brought back will be for breakfast, paired with coffee. I had toast sandwiches, cheese and roast beef croissants, tuna bread, and uguisu bean bread. It was quite deluxe. I had them the next day, and although the croissant bread was a bit dry, it was still good. It had been a while since I had bread from Shinshindo bakery. Thank you for the meal.

Croissant ¥210 Salted croissant was sold out. It is flat and large in size. The outside has a nice crispy texture, while the inside is filled with buttery dough. The layers filled with air give it a light and delicious mouthfeel. It is a classic type of croissant, giving a well-crafted and meticulous impression. There are not many types of bread available.
