I usually eat steamed eel in the Kanto style, so this Kansai-style grilled eel is really good. Personally, I prefer this Kansai style. The restaurant is located in a residential area, and it looks like a normal house, but it still has a nice atmosphere. The waitress was also very friendly. I made a reservation online (I didn't know about it), and they gave me 3 pieces of bone senbei as a service. The eel bowl was delicious, allowing you to fully enjoy the taste of the eel itself. The sauce was not too sweet, hitting the right spot for my taste. It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

Autumn in Kyoto. It's a holiday, so I want to visit a shop that I wouldn't normally go to. I choose this shop. I walk from Toji Station. As I get closer, the smell of grilled eel fills the air. I take off my shoes at the entrance and change into slippers. It's lunchtime, and there are many families inside. I sit down and order the Hitsumabushi that I came for. Following the typical way to eat Hitsumabushi, I first try it as is with sansho pepper sprinkled on top. The eel is grilled in the Kansai style, nice and crispy. For the second bowl, I add green onions, seaweed, and wasabi. For the third bowl, I finally pour the dashi broth over it. It's delicious, just as expected from a famous shop. Finally, I eat it as is again. It's a straightforward taste of eel without any fancy toppings, reminiscent of Edo-style Hitsumabushi. It's good. The portion is just right and easy on the stomach. As I eat, more and more customers come in. Most of them seem to be regulars, chatting with the owner. It seems like they are well-rooted in the local community.

I ate an eel bowl with less rice and eel bones senbei. It was a luxurious and delicious meal, thank you. The eel was grilled in a Kansai style, which was crispy and delicious. The portion was generous and easy to eat. I was considering skipping the rice for a lower calorie option, but the combination of eel and rice is just perfect. I'm glad I chose to have rice with it. The eel liver was also large and tasty. The salty flavor was just to my liking. I snacked on eel bone senbei while waiting for the eel bowl to be ready, and it was crispy and well-seasoned, making it a great accompaniment to alcohol. It was my first time trying eel bones, and they were surprisingly delicious. The only downside was that they didn't have Highball available. That was disappointing.

I felt like eating eel, so I searched for an eel restaurant on Tabelog and found this place where I could have it at a reasonable price. I made a reservation online and visited the restaurant. It was about a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Toji Station. When I entered the restaurant, I was surprised by how spacious and clean it was. I was dining alone, but a reserved table was prepared for me. I ordered the recommended eel bowl set (2,850 yen) in advance, so I sat at the table, sipped tea, and waited leisurely. The staff kindly allowed me to take photos inside the restaurant, and even offered to take a picture of the live eel. The eel bowl arrived with three pieces of eel, liver sashimi, pickles, and eel bone tempura as a special offer for making a reservation on Tabelog. The eel was fragrant and had a rich, fatty flavor typical of grilled eel. The sauce was not too sweet, but had a soy sauce flavor with a hint of acidity that paired well with the fatty eel. The liver sashimi had a refined flavor with hints of bonito and yuzu, and was delicious with the assorted vegetables. The eel was sourced from Aichi Prefecture this time, and it was fatty, tender, and had a thin skin, making it a very delicious grilled eel. The eel bone tempura was crispy and fragrant, making me crave a beer, but it was still too early for that, so I enjoyed it as it was. If you want a generous amount of eel, I recommend the eel rice bowl set, but I was fully satisfied with the eel bowl set. Next time, I want to enjoy delicious eel with some drinks.

I searched for an eel restaurant within walking distance from my accommodation in Kyoto and the rating was not very high (3.04 2020/9/25), but you never know until you try the eel, so I decided to visit. (Tabelog Net Reservation) It's about a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Station and about 7-8 minutes from Toji Station. The restaurant is located in a residential area. The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious, with two tables for six people, two tables for four people, two tables for two people, and a counter with five seats. For a restaurant in a residential area, it is quite an impressive establishment. I waited while drinking beer at my seat for about 10 minutes, and then the "eel bowl" arrived. The sauce was on the richer side and the eel was very delicious. Thank you for the meal. * The alcohol selection includes high-end brands such as Morio Kishida, Mura, and Maou. I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. The restaurant has moved to its current location, but the interior still has a nice woody scent and a clean atmosphere. There were even autographs from some famous celebrities displayed. The menu offers dishes like eel rice bowl, hitsumabushi, and grilled eel. I usually order hitsumabushi, but this time I tried the grilled eel rice bowl, which had two layers of eel. I also ordered a side dish of eel liver and eel bone senbei. For drinks, I ordered the original plum wine, but it was a bit too strong for me, leaving an alcohol aftertaste. The eel liver was flavorful on its own, so I enjoyed it as it was. The grilled eel had a crispy exterior and a tender interior, which I love. The sauce had a Kansai-style flavor with a hint of sweetness. Although I felt the sauce was a bit scarce, the well-seasoned eel made up for it. Overall, the seasoning was slightly on the rich side. I went to Bitenri near Toji in Kyoto. The shop recently moved to a residential area about a 5-minute walk from Toji Station. At lunchtime, two groups were waiting for eel at the tables. When I sat at the counter and looked at the menu, there were three options: eel bowl, hitsumabushi, and eel box. The eel bowl comes with pine and bamboo. I ordered the eel box, which has eel in between the rice layers. The liver soup comes with fresh yuba, which is very elegant. When I opened the box, the grilled eel looked delicious. When I took a bite, the skin was nicely grilled but the meat was fluffy. The sauce was slightly spicy and refreshing. In between the rice layers, there were strips of eel. They use fatty eel, which turns out fluffy without steaming, but grilling it in a roaster is also a skill. It's a very pleasant shop, and when I left, a taxi was arriving with customers.

There is a parking lot available. It might be tight for big cars. The eel bone dish was piled high and cheap, but delicious. The eel was very tasty, in Kansai style. The white rice was not quite to my liking. The clear soup was a bit too bland.
