This is a shop I always visit when I go to Kyoto. The kinako (soybean flour) cookies are light and delicious. I highly recommend trying them. This time, I ordered something different. Yatsuhashi with vanilla for ¥330 and unsweetened matcha love for ¥450. The Yatsuhashi with vanilla was not crispy. It has a strong cinnamon flavor and the cream filling is not very prominent. The matcha love is a matcha drink. Despite its deep color, the matcha flavor is not very strong. Both items were a bit disappointing for me. It seems that the highlight of this shop is really the kinako cookies.

The third shop we visited in Kyoto was here. We ordered the Yatsuhashi Choux Matcha for 330 yen. We didn't have to wait long and were able to order and eat right away. Personally, I was expecting something like a cream puff from the photos, but the actual pastry was a dense, heavier dough. I later found out that the dough contains cinnamon, which is used in Yatsuhashi. That's why the product name also includes Yatsuhashi.

Ami Kyoto Yatsuhashi Shu Ice Cream 540 yen Matcha love 450 yen Located on the street of Kiyomizu-dera, this Yatsuhashi Shu shop offers a variety of delicious Yatsuhashi treats. Established in 1982, this shop is a well-known traditional establishment. While the chewy raw Yatsuhashi and crispy Yatsuhashi are delicious, the crispy Yatsuhashi Shu, which contains cinnamon, offers a unique Yatsuhashi flavor. The popular choice is the Shu cream filled with matcha cream, but on a hot day, the Shu ice cream, with its thick matcha ice cream, is particularly delicious. Despite a line of about 10 people, it moved quickly! #Ami Kyoto #Yatsuhashi #Yatsuhashi Shu Ice Cream #Yatsuhashi Shu #Cinnamon #Kiyomizu-dera #Matcha Ice Cream #Matcha Sweets #Kyoto Souvenir #Kyoto Sweets #Kyoto Gourmet #Kyoto Cafe #Kyoto #Kiyomizu-dera Gourmet #Cool Sweets

I visited Ms. Ami Shimizu - While touring Kiyomizu-dera, I was drawn in by the sight of "Yatsuhashi Choux" on the main street - I tried the vanilla Yatsuhashi Choux - The crispy pastry with a hint of cinnamon and rich custard filling was delicious - Definitely recommend trying it!

After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, I ordered a matcha cream puff. It's a unique treat that combines a Western-style cream puff with a Kyoto twist, using a yatsuhashi skin and matcha cream. It looks like a Western dessert but tastes distinctly Japanese. I recommend it for those looking to try Kyoto-style Western sweets.

What is this "Yatsuhashi Choux"! It smells so good! I immediately bought it. The volume is amazing, I'm so happy. The scent of cinnamon, overflowing custard cream inside. It's unbelievably delicious! I didn't know custard could taste this good. The sweetness is just right, this is a drinkable custard. With plenty of cold cream, I could almost forget about the sweltering heat.

On the first day of my trip to Kyoto, I was drawn to Kyo Ami Saku, a place I stumbled upon on my way to Kiyomizu Temple. The crispy texture of the pastry with matcha cream was exquisite. Despite it being a weekday, the place was bustling with tourists. It's definitely a must-visit spot in Kyoto for its photogenic appeal!

197th shop for being popular
This time, I went to Kyoami in Kiyomizu, Kyoto! I stopped by because I heard there was Yatsuhashi cream puffs on the slope leading to Kiyomizu Temple! The skin is harder than a regular cream puff, but the inside is fluffy and delicious. If you're interested, please stop by once.

I visited the second shop during my sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera temple! I was intrigued by the word "Yatsuhashi Shoe," so I decided to try it out. They had matcha and vanilla flavors, but matcha was the most popular, so I got a matcha shoe to go! The outside was crispy, and the matcha cream inside was rich and delicious! Now, I will head to the next shop for more exploration!

On this day, after visiting Kiyomizu Temple (my third time in Kyoto, but my first visit to this temple), we took a break at this shop because it was raining.
What I had:
- Yatsuhashi Choux (matcha)
To put it simply, it's a choux cream with a crispy cinnamon-flavored choux pastry. It was delicious. Well, since Yatsuhashi is a famous confectionery, you can't really go wrong with a Yatsuhashi Choux, right? The slightly sweet matcha cream paired with the cinnamon gave a nice balance.

I saw this shop that I had been curious about when I went to Shimizu's place, and of course, it caught my eye on the way back as well. My daughter said, "Let's eat!" Inside, there were cream flavors of matcha and vanilla. Although Kyoto is known for matcha, they chose vanilla here. The outside was crispy, and the inside had a cinnamon-scented cream. Wow, this is like Yatsuhashi! It was a large size with a satisfying taste. After eating it, my mask smelled like cinnamon for a while.

Visited a shop near Kiyomizu-dera temple! The eat-in space was crowded with many people. Matcha Eightfold Bridge Choux / ¥330. The appearance is not like a typical choux cream, it has a rough texture. The dough is delicious! It has a crunchy texture but is not heavy, easy to eat. It definitely has the flavor of Eightfold Bridge! The cream has the right amount of sweetness and goes well with the dough. It is gooey, allowing you to enjoy the difference with the dough. I slightly regret not buying the vanilla one... Thank you for the meal!

The scent of Yatsuhashi and butter fills the air around the shop, making it irresistible to pass by without stopping in. I decided to take a look inside. The specialty here is the "Yatsuhashi Choux," a choux pastry with cinnamon kneaded into the dough, filled with either matcha cream or custard cream. I really wanted to try it! Unfortunately, I didn't have much time and I was a bit intimidated by the size of the choux, so I ended up giving up on the Yatsuhashi Choux. Instead, I quickly grabbed a Cannele. The plain Cannele was 330 yen. The surface was crispy and crunchy, while the inside was soft and juicy. It was delicious, but it was quite cold, so I would have been happier if it was slightly warm. I think I'll be able to visit the area around Kiyomizu Temple again, so next time, I definitely want to try the Yatsuhashi Choux.

One of the most popular tourist spots in Kyoto, which is also a favorite of mine, is Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Always bustling with visitors of all ages, Kiyomizu-dera is also known for its food stalls. I visited one of the popular food stalls at Kiyomizu-dera, a longstanding shop established in 1982. The nearest station is Kiyomizu Gojo Station, about a 20-minute walk away. From Kiyomizu-zaka bus stop, it's a 10-minute walk to the shop. I ordered their most popular item, "Yatsuhashi Chou Matcha," which is a choux pastry filled with matcha cream and custard. The choux pastry is large and very filling. The dough, made with Yatsuhashi cinnamon, is crispy, and the matcha cream is rich and flavorful. The shop fills the cream after receiving the order, ensuring a fresh and delicious treat. The combination of the crispy dough with the strong matcha flavor is delightful. The shop is spacious with seating available, making it suitable for eating on the go or taking a break inside. Highly recommended for both options. [Order] - Yatsuhashi Chou Matcha 330 yen

Visited around 2:00 PM on Saturday. Had to wait for 3 groups ahead. The turnover is fast. The staff's hospitality was poor, so that's why this rating.
- Yatsuhashi Choux ¥330
The choux pastry was crispy and had a hint of cinnamon. Is this what yatsuhashi is supposed to be like?? The matcha cream inside was made with strong matcha flavor and not too sweet, which was good.

Since my school trip to Kyoto, I came to Kiyomizu Temple for "obanzai" but unfortunately, I didn't check beforehand and found out that reservations were required for everything. What a shame. So, I ended up doing some food tasting instead, starting with popular cream puffs. I tried the matcha cream and custard flavors, but since I'm not a big fan of sweets, I only had a small taste of each. They were good, but I still prefer the taste of Yatsuhashi. I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I hope to enjoy some delicious obanzai next time.

I ordered the "Yatsuhashi Choux Matcha" for 330 yen. The shop was not crowded when I visited on a weekend at 12:00 PM. This shop is known for its matcha sweets and has been operating as a souvenir shop in Kyoto since 1982. I found it while walking along Sannenzaka Street on my way to Kiyomizu Temple. The shop was renovated in 2016, so the interior is clean and well-maintained. There is seating available inside, with benches and a standing counter. I chose the Yatsuhashi Choux Matcha, which is made by kneading Yatsuhashi into choux pastry and baking it by hand. The pastry is thick and crispy, allowing you to enjoy the unique aroma of Yatsuhashi. The matcha cream inside is rich and velvety, with a strong matcha flavor. This shop is perfect for tourists looking to enjoy matcha sweets. Thank you for the delicious treat!

I stopped by this shop for a break while visiting Kiyomizu Temple. The interior was cool and comfortable. I ordered green tea and Yatsuhashi choux. The Yatsuhashi choux had a good amount of filling and the pastry was crispy. The matcha was rich and delicious. This is a shop I would like to visit again when I come back to Kyoto.

After leaving Kiyomizu-dera, I visited Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka where there are a variety of interesting shops, including renowned Yatsuhashi stores. Among them, I was drawn to a new sweets-like atmosphere that featured Yatsuhashi. Yatsuhashi is synonymous with "Nikki," isn't it? It reminds me of the group "Shonentai" as well. But getting back on track... I was intrigued by how they were using Nikki and what had become of Yatsuhashi. The menu included Yatsuhashi Choux, Yatsuhashi Choux Soft Serve, and Soft Serve in three different flavors. I initially thought of ordering just the Yatsuhashi Choux Soft Serve, but since the shapes of the Choux in Yatsuhashi Choux and Yatsuhashi Choux Soft Serve were different, I ended up ordering both. I chose matcha cream for the Choux and a mix of matcha and vanilla for the Soft Serve. There was a spacious seating area on the second floor of the shop, so I relaxed there. I took a bite of the Yatsuhashi Choux first... Oh, there's Nikki paste in the Choux. The matcha cream was not too bitter, making it a sweet treat that even young children would enjoy. And then I tried the Yatsuhashi Choux Soft Serve... Oh, this one also has the same Nikki paste. The presentation of the Soft Serve was cute. It was a fun concept! Bon appétit!

While on my way to Kiyomizu Temple, I stumbled upon a shop selling cream puffs in a neighborhood known for its yatsuhashi and traditional Japanese sweets. I decided to pop in and try the matcha flavor. As a big fan of yatsuhashi, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this cream puff was. The outer shell was slightly firm, reminiscent of the crispy texture of yatsuhashi, while the matcha cream inside had a subtle bitterness and was not overly sweet. It was a perfect combination with the firm shell. The shop had seating areas in the back and on the second floor, making it a comfortable place for kimono-wearing customers to enjoy their treats. If you love yatsuhashi, I highly recommend trying this cream puff.
