For a while, I had stayed away from Costco, but I had to come for a tire change for my car (Costco is cheap for tire changes by the way, and you get a prepaid card worth 5400 yen). "The tire change will take about 1 hour, and you can also get a prepaid card that you can use right away, so I decided to take a look around the store for a bit!"
However, the shopping carts are only available in the general parking lot, so I had to go to the second-floor parking lot first (Costco doesn't have shopping baskets, so everything is carried by hand). The carts are huge, like the ones you see in American stores on TV.
I decided to go inside without a cart, and it was surprisingly empty on a weekday. I wandered around and got a call from my wife asking me to buy "salmon sashimi, ground beef, and eggs," so I headed to the food section.
At Costco, prices fluctuate for everything other than food, so the eggs that day were about 400 yen for a pack of 20 eggs, which were larger than the usual LL size, almost like jumbo eggs.
The Atlantic salmon was 308 yen for 100g, and the smallest pack I bought was 1.1kg for about 3400 yen. The ground beef was over 2kg for over 2000 yen, which is the standard Costco size.
Everything is of high quality at Costco, and the prices are very affordable for the quality you get. Since I didn't have a cart, I had to carry everything by hand until I reached the checkout. I managed to get to the checkout with all the items.
After leaving the checkout, there was a food court. I hadn't been to Costco in a while, so I felt like eating something. I ordered a whole pizza and three hot dogs. I completely forgot that the hot dogs came with soda, so I couldn't carry everything and had to get another empty box.
I managed to carry everything and waited outside for the tire change to finish. After the tire change, I went home. For dinner that day, we had salmon bowls and pizza.
The Costco pizza is American-sized, about 45cm in diameter, and costs around 1500 yen. It's delicious but lacks the subtle flavors of Japanese pizza.
The salmon bowl is simple to make by marinating the salmon in wasabi soy sauce and putting it on rice. The salmon is fatty and delicious.
The hot dogs were topped with curry cabbage, and they became breakfast the next day. Any leftovers were saved for later.
On a later day, the ground beef was used to make taco rice meat sauce.
Costco is a membership store, so you need to show your membership card when entering. If you're a first-timer, you'll need to either become a member for about 5000 yen a year or use a trial entrance ticket that comes with magazines. When leaving the store, they check your receipt and purchased items.
