The "Watanabeya Salad" with the restaurant's name is recommended! It has interesting combinations of fresh Chinese cabbage, tofu, salted kelp, and pickled radish. The menu for both food and drinks is extensive, and besides the sashimi and hokke that we ordered, everything was delicious and served quickly. The large rolled omelette was fluffy. I kept adding more and more sake and before I knew it, it was almost midnight. The staff were all young and flashy (sorry), which made me nervous at first, but they discreetly cleared away our empty plates and spoke kindly, making it a comfortable experience. During a trip to Kyoto from Kagawa Prefecture, I stayed near this hotel. The seating was a bit cramped and tight, but the food was delicious and served promptly. The seasoned egg omelette was the best. The marinated firefly squid was exceptional. I would love to visit again when I return to Kyoto.

Today, I had to go to Kyoto for work. Around lunchtime, I wandered around the Karasuma Oike area. By chance, I came across a restaurant called "Kaisendon Watanabeya" and decided to have lunch there. The lunch menu included options like "Tendon" (tempura rice bowl), "Seafood Yukke Don" (raw seafood on rice), and "Hon Maguro Don" (tuna rice bowl). Each dish came with red miso soup, and for an additional 200 yen, you could switch the rice to udon noodles. I opted for the "Maguro Don," which was served in a large bowl with a generous amount of tuna. It was topped with wasabi and had both lean and fatty cuts of tuna, making it incredibly delicious. The udon noodles were thin Kyoto-style noodles that paired well with the tuna bowl. It was a satisfying and filling lunch combination.

I visited for takeout around 12:10 on Sunday. There were a few customers dining in, and one other customer besides me for takeout. - Seafood Yukke Don 850 yen It had a sesame dressing flavor. Personally, I would have preferred the sesame dressing to be a bit lighter. The richness of the egg yolk was delicious.

I walked into a shop by chance, where everyone sits around a big table. There seems to be a second floor as well. Despite being an izakaya-style place, the age group here is older, around the 50s. There are two groups of women and one man as customers. The atmosphere is nice, right? The menu consists of adult-friendly items. The sashimi platter feels a bit lonely, but for 1000 yen per person, it's not bad. It's okay to drop by without any prior research.

When you feel like eating a variety of dishes, it's a good choice to go to an izakaya.

I casually walked in. The dashimaki tamago was delicious, my child liked it so much that we ordered it twice. I had a light drink and finished with a maguro don. However, it might have been good to finish with white rice and stir-fried beef tendon and kujo negi. It was my first time here, but it was delicious.

When I went after a long time, personally I didn't feel the cost performance was as attractive as before.

In the second floor room, out of the 6 tables, 3 of the 6 young people sitting at the largest table were smoking, and as a non-smoker, the smell of tobacco filled the room, making the delicious food feel ruined. According to the Health Promotion Law, indoor smoking is generally prohibited, so I would like it to be banned.

I often passed by this restaurant and was curious about it. The large red lantern outside makes it easy to spot. When you slide open the door, you are greeted by a large table right in front of you. It seems like solo or couple diners are seated here. I wonder if making a reservation would get you a private sunken kotatsu table? I didn't have a reservation and was directed to the big table. There is a TV near the entrance, which was convenient. The staff, mostly students, were efficient and friendly. They respond quickly when called. Despite the quiet location, there were many foreign customers. Perhaps it's mentioned in some guidebook? The dishes like ankimo (creamy), small but plump kaki fry, simmered tai head (fatty but small), butter soy sauce awabi (chewy), assorted sashimi (small and easy to eat), grated soba (smooth with strong broth), and sushi (rice is a bit watery) were all delicious! The flavors are a bit rich and go well with beer. The only downside was the slightly watery sushi rice. It could be cooked a bit firmer. Overall, the prices were not as scary as I had feared when I saw the recommendations on the board without prices. It's a bright and welcoming place where even solo female diners should feel comfortable. Thank you for the meal, I will definitely visit again!
