Here we hold events where you can regularly meet geisha dancers. This time was the second event, and I came to support my favorite geisha dancer. Since the meal was included, I only ordered a drink. I chose "Sweet Sake and Lemon Soda" because I think it's good for health. The sweetness comes only from the sweet sake, but you can also add syrup to your liking. There is a photo of the first meal after this, but I couldn't find space in my stomach for the tempting pudding. I plan to come again for the pudding next time.

I made a reservation via email and visited a hidden gem for breakfast in a back alley. I ordered the most popular recommended set meal, which allows you to choose between grilled mackerel or salmon. I chose mackerel, which had a crispy skin and tender flesh. I don't often have the chance to eat grilled fish, so it was a comforting experience. The side dishes were simple yet delicious. The rolled omelette was oozing with dashi broth and was fantastic. Starting the morning with a traditional Kyoto-style breakfast is the best way to begin the day.

I had breakfast at a cafe in Kyoto, near Kiyomizu. The interior of the cafe had tatami flooring and a traditional feel. I had a Japanese breakfast with a side dish of white miso-flavored vegetables and daikon radish that was well-seasoned and delicious when paired with tofu. The cafe also had a beautiful garden, creating a lovely atmosphere for breakfast. #KyotoGourmet #KyotoBreakfast #KyotoMorning #KyotoLunch #SanjoGourmet #SanjoLunch #ShogoinGourmet #Kyoto #Sanjo #Shogoin #KyotoTravel #KyotoSightseeing #GionShijo #GionShijoMorning #GionShijoGourmet #GionShijoLunch #KiyomizuGojo #KiyomizuGojoGourmet #KiyomizuGojoLunch #KyotoCafe #GionShijoCafe #KiyomizuGojoCafe

This was my 4th visit to this favorite restaurant where I can enjoy a breakfast like at home. Since it was Obon, I made a reservation in advance via email. When I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30, there was a sign saying it was fully booked for reservations. I was glad I made a reservation, but I was seated at a shared table. I'm not a fan of sharing tables as it makes me feel uncomfortable, but it was crowded so I had no choice. I ordered the recommended breakfast set for 1600 yen and a shiso juice for 400 yen. It took about 30 minutes for the food to arrive due to the crowd. I was really hungry by then. The miso soup was packed with sweet potatoes, burdock, carrots, and other ingredients, and it was very delicious. The simmered pork was gently seasoned but very flavorful. The main dish, salmon, was the smallest and thinnest I've had so far. The shiso juice had a strong honey flavor, refreshing and perfect for summer. The atmosphere felt like visiting grandma's house, which was wonderful. I also got a point card, so I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I entered a quaint restaurant down a narrow alley with high expectations. Despite no other customers being present, I was seated at a table near the entrance. Interestingly, a group of foreigners who arrived later were seated at a table further back with a view of the courtyard. It was a hot day, around 30 degrees Celsius, but the air conditioning inside was not very effective, making it quite humid. It might have been because I was seated near the entrance that the air conditioning didn't reach me properly. I suggest avoiding this place for morning or lunch visits during the peak of summer. I ordered the morning set, but was given miso soup without being asked, and it cost 200 yen more than expected. Overall, it's a nice place to enjoy the atmosphere, but there were some issues with the service and pricing.

■Order Details Kyoto Breakfast: ¥1,350 including tax Option to change the soup to Kasu-jiru (limited to winter): +¥200 ■Impressions Located in a narrow alley behind the Ebisu Shrine, I was able to secure a reservation just past 10 o'clock, likely due to the Ebisu Festival drawing a large crowd that day. The restaurant preserves the traditional machiya style, exuding a distinct Kyoto atmosphere. The clientele mainly consisted of women, with a few foreign visitors as well. I ordered the Kyoto Breakfast, which features the main dish of grilled Pacific saury. For an additional fee, you could opt for mackerel or salmon instead, and further customize by changing the miso soup to tonjiru or other options. Particularly in winter, you could switch to zoni or kasu-jiru, which was a nice touch. While waiting, you could hear the sounds of eggs being beaten and knives chopping in the nearby kitchen, creating a comforting ambiance. The served meal was a quintessential Japanese breakfast, with freshly grilled saury and a warm, fluffy rolled omelette. The side dishes included simmered root vegetables and konjac, as well as boiled spinach and red core daikon, all delicately seasoned and comforting. The rice was slightly soft but shiny, and the standout was the kasu-jiru, incredibly delicious with a vivid sake lees flavor. The daikon and Kyoto carrots in the soup added a cozy warmth to the body. Though they didn't use particularly fancy ingredients, they cooked ordinary ones with sincerity and delivered an exceptional breakfast experience. ■Location & Access Approximately 3 minutes on foot from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station ■Interior 1F: Counter seating for 3, Tatami seating (4-person × 2, 2-person × 1) 2F: 2 Tatami tables ■Menu Morning: Kyoto Breakfast, Roji Usa Curry Lunch: Roji Uzen (set meal) Cafe: Drinks, sweets, desserts, etc. ■Store Information Address: 176 Shimoyanagicho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto Phone: 075-551-0463 Business Hours: 8:00-11:00 / 12:00-17:00 Regular Holiday: Irregular Thank you for reading until the end. I had always wanted to visit this restaurant. I had bookmarked it as a place where you can eat kasujiru in the winter. I made a reservation and visited. You can change miso soup to kasujiru for an additional charge, but they also had ozoni! I couldn't decide, so I ended up ordering both (laughs). I added grilled salmon to the "Kyoto breakfast" for an additional charge, changed miso soup to kasujiru for an additional charge, and also ordered ozoni separately, all for 1850 yen (including 10% tax). First, the rice was shiny and delicious! The grilled salmon was the kind with the orange color that I like. I had been waiting for this. The small side dishes of vegetables and the dashimaki tamago were all delicious. Both the kasujiru and the white miso ozoni were undeniably tasty. And I was happy that it was cheap. Next time, I want to try going at a time other than breakfast!

On Sunday at 9:02, I visited Rōjūsagi-san after making a reservation the day before. They have limited seating and require reservations on weekends. They mentioned that if you are more than 15 minutes late, it will be considered a cancellation and asked to be informed. I was seated on the second floor, which only accommodates two groups. The tables were separated by partitions, even the ones sharing a table had dividers, showing their concern for preventing droplet infection. The menu had a Japanese-style set meal, which I liked, while my daughter preferred something Western but not curry. We placed our order at 9:10 for the Kyoto breakfast at 950 yen and the recommended Kyoto breakfast at 1,350 yen. They mentioned that the order would take some time as they prepare it upon receiving it (which is why we visited on the weekend as we were unsure if we would make it in time on a weekday due to work). At 9:30, the neighboring guests in the semi-private room left. I took a photo of the room. The breakfast arrived at 9:34. I requested a regular portion of rice. The default soup was miso (the recommended was pork miso). The side dishes, fish, and the traditional Japanese breakfast menu were satisfying. With the window open, we could hear the neighbors' voices, giving a sense of everyday life. Luckily, a cool breeze came in, making the breakfast enjoyable. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by for breakfast. I had the morning set meal with salted mackerel instead of grilled fish, and changed the miso soup to pork miso soup. It had been a while since I had such a delicious thick and fatty mackerel! It was very tasty. The side dishes were dried radish and stir-fried green peppers. The pork miso soup had a rich flavor with daikon radish, sweet potato, burdock, and other ingredients cut into thin strips. It had a slightly different impression from regular pork miso soup. I was a little concerned that some of the ingredients were repeated, but I was able to enjoy a healthy breakfast with plenty of vegetables. It's a popular restaurant, but they also accept reservations, so it's reassuring. The curry for lunch looks delicious, and the drinks at the cafe are cute, so I would like to visit at a different time as well. Thank you for the meal.

A café located right next to Kennin-ji Temple. They open from 8 am and serve breakfast. There were people without reservations lining up, but it might be better to make a reservation. They serve basic set meals like grilled fish, which seem to be made with care but nothing extraordinary. There are many young people.

On a regular Wednesday, the store opens at 8:00 and there were no customers waiting in line. The store opened promptly at 8:00. I made a reservation over the phone on the same day at 7:35, and was told that if I arrived 15 minutes late from the reservation time, it would be cancelled. There were also walk-in customers. It seems like making a reservation is a good idea even on weekdays. The store is located in a back alley. Inside, there is a small Kyoto-style tatami room and a counter, but the tatami room has a better atmosphere. I ordered the Kyoto-style breakfast for ¥950 including tax. The portion of rice was generous. I added salted salmon for ¥150, miso soup for ¥200, seasoned egg for ¥80, and extra rice for ¥100, totaling ¥1480 including tax. The food arrived in 20 minutes after ordering. The grilled salmon was thick and of good quality. The miso soup was flavorful, just the way I like it. The staff's service was also good. I will definitely come back. Thank you for the meal. Note that the restroom is located near the tatami room, making it difficult to use.

This is a review written before the arrival of the fourth wave, although it was just three weeks ago. I had a Japanese breakfast (grilled fish, rolled omelette, two side dishes, miso soup, rice, pickles - 950 yen) at the famous "Roji Usagi" during break time. I made a reservation and visited. This place is known for its breakfast, with even famous star chefs coming here to scout. This time, I tried the Strawberry Pudding Parfait for 1200 yen. The pudding is homemade. Ah, as expected in Kyoto, it was a delicious parfait. The courtyard was also very lovely. I could feel the depth of Kyoto. Next time, I'll try the breakfast. Thank you for the meal.

I found this place on the way to Ebisu-san after passing through Miyagawa-cho! I knew the name of the shop well, but I was impressed to find it here. I visited during lunchtime. It felt like going up to someone's small house. I ordered the fried chicken set. The stove was warm. The miso soup was warm too. My stomach felt warm and satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

The crow was pecking at a garbage bag on the road, scavenging for leftovers. Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I headed for breakfast with a growling stomach. Walking through the winding narrow streets lined with traditional townhouses, I spotted a curtain. The place seemed quiet and not open for business. I cautiously opened the door, and was shown to a tatami seat. Despite it being seven in the morning, the place was bustling with customers. The atmosphere felt like I had walked into someone else's home, and I almost burst out laughing. I ordered the morning set meal. Eggs, grilled fish, and rice - this was the quintessential Japanese breakfast. The aroma was tantalizing. The fish being grilled after I placed my order was crispy and delicious. The miso soup helped settle my hungry stomach. The taste was neither exceptional nor bad. Sometimes, I crave such breakfast. Unlike the high-end feel of hotel breakfasts, this place exuded a sense of comfort. It reminded me of home-cooked meals. It made me feel that way.

As a bread lover, I never realized it before, but if you come to Kyoto, why not have a traditional Japanese breakfast with rice and miso soup sometimes? I searched for a restaurant that opens early in the morning, around 7-8 am, to avoid the crowds. It's located about a 10-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, heading towards Kyoto Station, in the narrow alleys behind the Minami-za theater. I happened to stay at a hotel in Gion, within walking distance to the restaurant, which was convenient. Although it was close by, I got a bit lost due to not being familiar with the area. The cafe, renovated from a traditional townhouse, usually opens at 8 am, but during July and August, it opens at 7 am. I wonder if this is related to the Gion Festival? It's recommended to make a reservation, as mentioned on their Facebook page. However, I found out about it on the day and arrived just after they opened, luckily without any other customers, so I could enter without waiting. Despite being alone, I was given the option to sit at the counter or in a traditional tatami room. I chose the tatami room with a view of the inner garden, pulling out magazines from the bookshelf behind me while waiting. They had curry, sweets, and drink menus, but I didn't inquire if they were available for breakfast. The breakfast set menu, priced at 950 yen, includes rice, miso soup, grilled fish, and two side dishes. It's quite satisfying, typical of Kyoto. You can upgrade the grilled fish from mackerel to salmon for an additional fee, and rice refills are available for an extra 150 yen. The side dishes included napa cabbage and shimeji mushrooms, simmered tofu pouches, and cabbage, bell pepper, and potato stew. The motherly figure in charge handles both cooking and serving by herself, so if you're in a hurry, it may not be suitable. The sounds of chopping on a cutting board, the aroma of miso soup, and the sight of the rolled omelet being prepared, all reminiscent of an old Japanese house, added to the authentic experience. Sitting on the tatami, enjoying the traditional Japanese meal with pickles and freshly cooked rice, it was a refreshing morning.

It is a "Machiya Cafe" located in a narrow alley in Hanamachi and Miyagawa-cho. They offer breakfast, lunch, and desserts in a calm space renovated from a traditional townhouse. Reservations are recommended due to its popularity. They open from 8:00 in the morning (7:00 in July and August) to 11:00 for breakfast, and from 12:00 for lunch (please confirm their business days and closing time). The cafe opened in July 2012. It is located in a side street off Kawabata Street (Miyagawa-suji). It's about an 8-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station and a 10-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. It can be a bit hard to find, so using GPS is recommended. Look for the cute "rabbit" curtain as a sign. I visited in the morning. I made a reservation the day before. The renovated townhouse space has a counter with 4 seats near the kitchen and 3 tables in 2 tatami rooms. You can see a small inner garden from the tatami rooms, creating a soothing atmosphere. The cafe is run by two women who provide a homely service. For breakfast, I ordered the following items (prices include tax): - Kyoto Breakfast (950 yen) Miso soup (can be upgraded to tonjiru for +200 yen), grilled fish (can be upgraded to salted salmon for +150 yen) - Roji Usa Curry (950 yen) I ordered the following: - Kyoto Breakfast (950 yen) It consisted of grilled fish, rolled omelette, 2 side dishes, miso soup, rice, and pickles. - Grilled fish: half a dried mackerel. It was hot and crispy, and you can eat the skin as well. The salty taste of the crispy skin and flesh went well with the rice. - Rolled omelette: beautifully made. When you take a bite, the gentle flavor of the dashi seeps out. - Two side dishes: 1. Grilled eggplant with miso glaze 2. Paprika, broccoli, and ham salad - Miso soup - Rice - Pickles: pickled daikon radish, pickled plum The Japanese-style breakfast was satisfying in terms of taste, price, and atmosphere. It was a breakfast that you wouldn't get tired of having every day. The surrounding alleys have a nostalgic charm, so it's a nice place to stop by during a leisurely stroll in the afternoon.

The restaurant is located in a hard-to-find place. It might be a good idea to check Google Maps when going for the first time. I went without a reservation and managed to get a table. The interior is small, so I recommend making a reservation before going. There are several lunch options, and you can choose the main dish. It's a bit pricey at 1200 yen for lunch. I ordered the fried chicken and salt-grilled mackerel, and both were delicious. They were juicy and homemade, really tasty. The place has a cozy atmosphere like an old folk house, with lots of goods and books related to Kyoto inside. It's a calm and relaxing place where you can spend hours. I heard they are famous for their breakfast, so I would like to visit again.

Townhouse cafe. When you enter, it feels like grandma's house. You can sit on the tatami mats, relax while looking at the garden. I ordered amazake and sweet potato parfait. The amazake is homemade, with grains of rice still intact, giving it a refreshing taste. The sweet potato parfait has ice cream topped with butter-sautéed sweet potatoes and honey. The combination sounds delicious, but the ice cream is quite sweet, so the extra honey wasn't necessary. Very sweet. Geisha also come here to eat sweet potato parfait. They serve breakfast as well, and on weekends, around 30 people visit in the morning, making it very busy. On the other hand, the quietest time is after 4 pm, which was perfect for a relaxing visit.

On the second day of my stay in Kyoto, my top priority was to participate in the Setsubun bean-throwing event at Yasaka Shrine, where the Geiko and Maiko from Gion Kobu perform. I arrived more than an hour before the scheduled start time to secure a good spot. After the event, I realized it was already past lunchtime as I had bumped into someone who had given me photography tips last year. I hurriedly searched for a nearby restaurant that wasn't a chain and stumbled upon Roji Usagi. Despite missing lunchtime, they kindly accommodated us and we enjoyed a home-cooked meal. My husband had the ginger pork set meal with miso soup, while I opted for the Japanese-style pilaf. The food was delicious and comforting, reminiscent of a mother's cooking. The restaurant is popular for its breakfast menu, so reservations are recommended. I would love to return for another meal and perhaps join one of their special events with Geiko and Maiko. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

During a day of sightseeing in Kyoto, I searched for a place to have breakfast the next morning and found this place on their official website, which stated "Please make a reservation." I called and was told that they were quite busy with reservations, but I went ahead and made one. The next morning, I arrived at the quiet Miyagawa-cho while people were waiting for the shop to open. I managed to get in on the first round despite about half of the people not having reservations. I ordered the Kyoto breakfast for 800 yen. The small shop had a charming atmosphere with a lovely garden. Despite the crowd, everyone seemed to be enjoying the tranquil ambiance. After about 30 minutes, the meals arrived for those who had made reservations, including me. The food was simple but comforting, and I realized that the experience was worth it. The shop seemed to cater more to tourists, given the name of the menu "Kyoto breakfast." Overall, I enjoyed the morning meal while soaking in the Kyoto atmosphere as a tourist.
