At night, I had an eel feast. For starters, I had curry-flavored bone senbei. I quickly ordered a beer. The eel came out with a thick cut, it was delicious. Then I had yuba, which had a nice chewy texture and was a perfect snack. I tried a comparison of three types of grilled eel: Tenku, Tosa, and Chikushi. I preferred the lighter Tosa, but the chewy and tender texture of Tenku was a new discovery. I tried different condiments like salt, wasabi, and sauce. From here, I switched to sake. The Koigataki from Sasaki Sake Brewery was delicious. I also had Umaki, nama-fu dengaku, and chawanmushi, all of which were delicious. By this point, I was already full! For the finale, I chose the Tenku grilled eel for my eel rice bowl. They recommended not mixing the sauce with the rice, but personally, I prefer both the eel and rice coated in sauce. It was so delicious. It was different from Nagoya or Kanto style eel dishes. I was beyond full at this point... I had some ice cream for dessert and it was a great meal. I walked home to help digest. I definitely want to come back to this restaurant.

I ordered half-sized unaju, unamaki, half-sized shirayaki, and sashimi. I made a reservation as soon as the store opened because the grilling process takes time. It was a great decision as I could enjoy the delicious meal when I was hungry. Unagi, beer, and summer are a perfect combination. I hope to try the grilled liver next time as it was not available on the day of my visit.

It's been a while since I last visited Hao, this being my fifth visit. I have tried regular farmed eel, as well as branded farmed eels such as Chikushi Kin Unagi and Tosa Igotsuo. I had been wanting to try another branded farmed eel called "Tenku Unagi", but I never seemed to catch it in stock whenever I called ahead. This time, when I called ahead, they were out of "Tenku Unagi" again. However, they did have natural wild eel from the Unkai Sea. Although it was a bit pricey, I decided to order it. It had a rich, clear flavor with a refreshing oily texture. There was no unpleasant smell, and the skin was firm with a delicious flavor that intensified with each bite. It's a bit expensive, so I can't have it often, but I would definitely like to try it again.

I got a meal ticket through hometown tax payment, so I had a luxurious lunch ^o^ It seems like a new place, the building is clean and doesn't have a traditional feel, but the taste was definitely good!! The Sichuan pepper was so spicy that it could be in Sichuan cuisine, so be careful. Also, about 80% of the customers inside were foreigners, and all the staff were serving in English. Reservations might be necessary.

I had una-ju (eel over rice), shirayaki (grilled eel), liver simmered in soy sauce, and uma-ki (eel and egg omelette). I wanted to compare them, but as expected, some items were sold out. The uma-ki came first and it was huge! The tamagoyaki (omelette) in the makki (eel and egg omelette) was fluffy, but the eel was a bit buried under it (lol). The liver simmered in soy sauce was not bad, but I wished it had a bit more juiciness like tsukudani. The una-ju rice came separately, and you can freely pour the sauce over it. Hmm, I still prefer the unity of una-ju. The eel itself was okay when grilled. The shirayaki was also okay. Despite trying various dishes, the satisfaction unique to eel was somewhat lacking. It wasn't bad. That's how the restaurant was. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious.

I visited a restaurant that was ranked number one in Kyoto, based on a certain ranking. The restaurant had a modern and surprising appearance. Unfortunately, the recommended three main dishes were not available except for domestic eel. I ordered the grilled eel and eel rice bowl. It took over 30 minutes for the food to be served. The taste was just average, with both dishes being a bit too soft. The eel rice bowl felt like just eel on top of plain rice.

I made a reservation for eel on Friday and visited with one other person on Saturday afternoon. When we arrived at 11:30, the restaurant was full. Unfortunately, the high-quality brand of eel that we were looking forward to was not available. With no other options due to fully booked restaurants in the area, we reluctantly decided to dine here. The atmosphere inside was noisy and not very relaxing, with the staff appearing flustered. We ordered the domestic eel rice bowl for 3800 yen. The flavor was good with a nice aroma, but the eel was not as tender as expected. The sauce was not too sweet and delicious, but overall the carefully prepared feeling did not come across due to the atmosphere of the restaurant. The miso soup with tofu was elegant and the pickles were tasty. It is important to have a good atmosphere for a meal, and I was disappointed that we were not informed about the unavailability of the brand eel when we made the reservation the day before. Being close to Nishiki Market, I have learned the importance of choosing a restaurant wisely. It was a good learning experience. Thank you for the meal.

I found out that I could compare different brands of eel, so I made a reservation and arrived at 11 o'clock. The restaurant is located near Nishiki Market, so there were people from various countries besides Japanese customers. There were staff who could speak English as well. However, there was one staff member who seemed angry when placing the hot water cup or handling something... it was disappointing. Above all, I'm glad I made a reservation. Unfortunately, they didn't have any branded eel in stock, only domestic eel. So I chose the top quality domestic eel. Wow, this is delicious enough! I was very satisfied. Now I'm looking forward to trying natural eel next time.

Today's lunch was a luxurious eel meal. I visited a restaurant called "Unagi Sora" that offers high-quality eel, including three types of branded eel and domestically sourced eel. Unfortunately, the branded eel was sold out, so I ordered the domestic eel from Kagoshima, which included eel on rice, eel rolls, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), and eel on rice rolls. The eel was delicious, but the highlight was the chawanmushi, which had a rich flavor and a deep yellow color. The eel on rice was also incredibly tasty, with a nice balance of fat and a delicious sauce on the side. Overall, it was a fantastic meal, and I look forward to trying the branded eel next time.

I made a reservation and entered the store because they were using their original brand of eel. Most of the customers were Asian foreigners! Unfortunately, when I went, they were almost sold out. Looking at other people's reviews, it seems like many people experienced items being sold out. Maybe they have a limited supply! The taste was refreshing and delicious! I was curious about the side menu, but I was already full so I didn't order any. I recommend going early if you plan to visit this place.

The store is clean and there are many young customers, with many customers from Korea as well. Unfortunately, the menu I was looking for was sold out, even though I had made a reservation. I tried two types of white-grilled eel from Kochi and Kagoshima prefectures. Both had thin flesh and the skin was grilled well without any unpleasant smell, which was good. However, I was a little disappointed because they lacked thickness. The rice was delicious and piping hot, which was good. Overall, I found the meal to be light and refreshing. It seemed to take a long time from ordering to being served. I wondered if this was the usual wait time for an eel restaurant. Strangely, the customer next to me who ordered later seemed to be served first. It is important to have a clean and consistent grilling color and texture. Next time, I will definitely try to get my hands on some branded eel! Thank you for the meal.

Tosa Igotsuo Unagi (premium/1 fish) for 5,800 yen. Liver sashimi is an additional 200 yen. Tosa Igotsuo Shirayaki (premium/1 fish) for 5,200 yen. Umaki for 1,600 yen. I was looking forward to trying the three types of eel from the "Unagi Sora" brand, but today they only had Tosa Igotsuo. The grilled eel is cooked for about 4 minutes, making it a mix between Kanto and Kansai styles. The eel meat is thin. I wonder if Tosa Igotsuo eels have thin meat? The size is around 4P to 5P. The Shirayaki has thin meat but is crispy and elastic. The Unaju also has thin meat but is not bad. It feels a bit weak, but the sauce is good. I don't dislike it. The rice is soft. The liver sashimi is a bit thin. The Umaki has a good portion. I wanted to try the Unagi Sora brand's Tenku Unagi. Next time, I will make sure to confirm in advance.

The smell of grilling eel was appetizing until it was brought to the table, and the eel itself was soft and delicious. The sauce was optional but unnecessary as the eel roll was flavorful on its own. The broth was rich and the egg was tasty. The restaurant had a bright and clean interior, and the staff were friendly. Despite going during off-peak hours, the place was still full. It was a shame that two out of the three original eel brands were sold out, leaving us with only one option. We wanted to try different eel brands by sharing, but it wasn't possible this time.

I visited on a weekday night. As expected, it was crowded due to its popularity, but the staff were friendly and I was able to enjoy my meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The selection of eel dishes was impressive, and I enjoyed the thick cuts of grilled and simmered eel. The simmered eel liver was excellent, and the accompanying sansho pepper and sake showed attention to detail. I had a chat with the owner, who was friendly and approachable, but I could tell that he had a strong belief in his cooking. I plan to make a reservation and visit again on my next trip to Kyoto.

I wanted to eat eel, so I chose this place. I ordered the eel comparison set meal, where you can try three different types of eel. You can choose between clear soup or miso soup, and for an additional fee, you can add eel liver. I chose the clear soup. The eel came in a small bowl with two pieces each. You can add sansho pepper and sauce to your liking. Each eel had its own unique flavor and was very filling. I personally enjoyed the "Tenku Unagi" as it was tender and delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and it's a place where you can enjoy dining alone or with a group.

In April 2021, I visited a newly opened eel restaurant in the city. Located within walking distance from Karasuma and Kawaramachi, and close to Nishiki Market, it seemed to attract many tourists due to its relatively large size and clean exterior. On a midday during a three-day weekend in September, I casually walked in around 1 pm. The place was not crowded, and it didn't seem like reservations were necessary at the moment. The seating was spacious and the atmosphere was pleasant with no unpleasant odors. The staff consisted of several young female part-time employees. One of the highlights of this restaurant is the opportunity to compare and taste three different brands of eel: Tenku Unagi, Tosanigossou, and Chikushi Kin Unagi. I decided to try all three in a grilled eel set (2,700 yen). Each brand was served with two pieces, freshly prepared. The Tenku Unagi was light and elegant, Tosanigossou had a traditional eel flavor, and Chikushi had a soft texture with just the right amount of fat. After trying them all, I chose Tosanigossou for my eel rice bowl, as it had the most distinct eel flavor. The eel rice bowl options included half a tail, 3/4 tail, or a whole tail, with an additional option for liver at 200 yen. The sauce was lightly sweet and just a small amount was enough. Overall, I found this eel bowl to be the most enjoyable. If you prefer Kanto-style eel or a fluffy texture, you might prefer Chikushi, especially if you are a woman. For those who appreciate the taste of natural eel, Tenku might be the best choice. I also had the opportunity to try the natural eel from Lake Biwa that was available that day. If you have the chance, I recommend comparing Tenku with the natural eel to see the difference. The liver sashimi had a rich flavor but was slightly intense. The grilled liver (900 yen) was decent, but it could have been cooked a bit longer to bring out more of the smoky flavor. However, this unique way of serving eel is not something I have encountered in Kansai, making it an interesting experience. Overall, it's a great place to enjoy eel in a relaxed setting.

Located near Nishiki Market, I happened to stumble upon this restaurant. The atmosphere is very Kyoto-like and the staff are extremely polite. Surprisingly, you can choose from 3 different types of eel here. Normally, I would expect only one type to be available, so it's nice to have options. I ordered the Tenku Unagi Hitsumabushi, and it was delicious. The eel was tender and flavorful. I would love to try a different type of eel next time! Thank you for the meal.

I went to Unagi Sora for a meal with my mother and husband after six months. Last time, I had the Chikushi Kin Unagi, so this time I chose the Tosa Igossou. The eel and rice were served separately in a two-tiered box, and you could add the sauce as you like. The sauce was relatively light and not too sweet. There were actually four pieces of eel, and the egg part was firm with a subtle dashi flavor. We had reserved a table in the back room (not a private room) initially, but the air felt stuffy and I could smell the charcoal, so we asked to be moved to a seat closer to the entrance. It turned out that I was the only one bothered by the smell (my mother and husband didn't mind). The staff apologized and explained that the ventilation system was not working properly.

First, let's have lunch to fill our stomachs with eel at SORA near Nishiki Market, a specialty eel restaurant. They offer original brands of eel raised with a focus on the feed, such as "Tenku Unagi," "Chikushi Kin Unagi," and "Tosa no Igotsu." This time, I ordered the "Tenku Unagi," which is raised on a diet of both natural saury and shrimp. The eel was incredibly rich but not greasy, with a light and fluffy texture, perfectly grilled skin, and layers of eggs and broth meticulously stacked on top. The sansho pepper here was also incredibly delicious. The exterior and interior of the restaurant were clean and had a lovely atmosphere. Next time, I want to try a comparison of different dishes. #Kyoto #KyotoLunchTour #KyotoGourmet #KyotoSightseeing #KyotoTravel #KyotoStroll #KyotoDate #KyotoTrip #KyotoWannaConnectWithPeopleWhoLoveIt #KyotoEel #SORA #UnagiSORA #NishikiMarket #KyotoLunch #NaturalEel #NaturalUnagi #Eel #EelRoll #UnagiDonburi #UnagiDon #UnagiBowl #GrilledEel #WhiteGrilledEel #KyotoCherryBlossoms #KyotoIzakaya #KyotoSightseeingSpot #KyotoFood

Today, my wife and I visited this restaurant for lunch on a rare Sunday off. The interior was bright and clean, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Upon being seated, we were provided with hot tea, wet towels, and mask holders. The menu offered 3 types of branded eel and domestic eel, and I ordered the "Tenku Unagi Unajyu 1/2 tail" (3,000 yen) with an additional "liver soup" (+200 yen). The tray soon arrived with a bento box containing eel, shredded omelette, liver soup, and pickles. The eel was thick and juicy, with slightly thick skin, and had been grilled to a fragrant crisp, enhancing its flavor without overpowering it. Adding the sweet and savory sauce brought out the richness of the eel and rice, complemented by the omelette. The liver soup was a delicate broth with a hint of bonito flavor and eel liver, showcasing the ingredients beautifully. I also tried a bit of my wife's "Chikushi Kin Unagi," which was tender, finely textured, and rich in flavor. In comparison, the "Tenku Unagi" highlighted the inherent richness and flavor of the eel. The service and atmosphere of the restaurant were excellent, making for a pleasant dining experience. I look forward to trying a different branded eel next time.

I recently visited a newly opened restaurant that a friend had posted about on Instagram. The bright and new atmosphere was really nice. They were out of the branded eel from Bando, so I decided to try the Chikushi Kin eel instead. The eel and rice were served separately, and the sauce came on the side so you could adjust it to your liking. The sauce was surprisingly light. The rice was relatively soft and shiny, which may be a matter of personal preference as some people prefer firmer rice in bowl dishes. Although it looked like a small portion, it was actually quite filling. We also ordered eel rolls to share and left feeling satisfied. The bill was settled at the table, and we were even escorted out by what seemed to be the owner, although I realized he wasn't the one cooking. The restaurant had a good amount of staff, which was nice to see.
