When you pick up your order, regardless of whether you have a reservation or not, you must wait in line at the end of the line if there are customers in line outside the restaurant (the line is the same for both customers with reservations and free customers). If the line is long, you may not be able to pick up your order right away. If the line is long, you may have to wait quite a while for your turn to come. Visit with plenty of time to spare, or go when there are few customers.

I have been familiar with this shop since I was a child. When you think of Usagiya, their dorayaki is famous, but there is more to enjoy than just that. Personally, my top three favorites are dorayaki, anmitsu, and Mizuyokan, but everything they offer is delicious. It's worth noting that while they are all under the name Usagiya, the branches in Ueno Hirokoji, Nihonbashi, and Asagaya are separate in management and each has a different taste.
On this day, I purchased the following three items from this shop:
☆ Dorayaki (237 yen)
The dorayaki here has a pleasantly moist and fluffy skin, but the standout is the delicious red bean paste filling. The red bean paste has just the right amount of sweetness and an elegant flavor profile. While I also enjoy the classic taste of the dorayaki from Usagiya in Ueno Hirokoji, I really love the refined taste of the dorayaki from this shop.
☆ Mame Daifuku (194 yen)
This was my first time trying the mame daifuku from this shop. The mochi is chewy, the red adzuki beans have a rich bean flavor, and the red bean paste is outstanding. I was initially skeptical about ordering mame daifuku from Usagiya, but it turned out to be delicious. They also sell strawberry daifuku during the strawberry season, so I definitely want to try that next.
☆ Seasonal Wagashi (Late Autumn, Fukei) (324 yen)
Both are a seasonal wagashi with a red bean paste center. Out of the two, the late autumn wagashi wrapped in yellow bean paste to resemble autumn leaves with a red surface is not only visually appealing but also fits my taste preferences.
Additionally, I have purchased the following items after my previous review and have found them to be delicious:
- Usagi Manju (170 yen)
- Usagiya Mochi (180 yen)
- Usagi Tsuki Naka (200 yen)
- Tsuki Kage Biscuit
- Anmitsu (My favorite)
I hope this beloved traditional Japanese sweet shop continues for many more years to come. Thank you for the delicious treats!

A popular traditional Japanese sweets shop near Asagaya Station. Their specialty items are dorayaki and rabbit-shaped steamed buns. They also have a tea house inside the shop. The staff seems a bit shy, with slightly stiff expressions. The dorayaki, with a simple rabbit illustration on the package, has a pancake-like buttery texture that is delicious. The sweet red bean paste filling is just the right amount of sweetness. It truly lives up to its popularity.

Sweets Series Tokyo Edition: Located in Asagaya, there is a rabbit-themed shop that I usually don't visit Asagaya, but had the opportunity to this time. The shop is small, but customers were coming in one after another purchasing dorayaki, rice cakes, and manju. The dorayaki was fluffy, soft, and not too sweet with delicious red bean paste. Great experience!

I went to this rabbit sweets shop which branched off from the famous Ueno rabbit sweets shop. Although I have visited the Ueno rabbit sweets shop in Nihonbashi, this was my first time here. I arrived before 3 pm and there was already a small line formed. One person in line asked if there were any dorayaki left. The shop seemed to sell out quickly even at this early hour. The shop itself was small, with wooden showcases displaying various traditional Japanese sweets. I bought a dorayaki for 240 yen including tax. The dorayaki had an elegant rabbit-themed packaging, quite different from the Ueno rabbit sweets shop. The dorayaki had a thick layer of pancake with red bean paste neatly sealed in between. When I tried it, I could feel the texture of the red beans, with a slightly restrained sweetness. The red bean paste was more moist and loose compared to the Ueno rabbit sweets shop, and the pancake was less moist, which I personally prefer. I learned that the Ueno rabbit sweets shop uses a machine to bake their pancake, resulting in neat vertical lines on the pancake's surface. In contrast, this dorayaki had a more random pattern. Perhaps this affects the overall texture of the dorayaki? I bought the dorayaki then ate it around 2 hours later. In contrast, the Ueno rabbit sweets shop offers freshly made warm dorayaki, which should be eaten within 20 minutes. This might also contribute to the differences I noticed. Even the dorayaki from the Ueno rabbit sweets shop changes significantly by the next day, so I believe dorayaki should be eaten fresh and not kept for long. It's not a suitable item for gifts.

I was intrigued by the sign that said they were offering shaved ice, so I decided to order. I got the shaved ice with red bean and matcha topping for 530 yen plus 50 yen tax, as well as the shaved ice with sweet syrup for 530 yen excluding tax. It seems like it might be a summer limited-time offer. Although they didn't use any special kind of ice, the price and taste were just average, which was a bit disappointing. I also bought kudzu cherry blossom and mizu yokan as souvenirs. The kudzu cherry blossom was 220 yen excluding tax, and the mizu yokan was also 220 yen excluding tax. They were not bad, but nothing special. As expected, the dorayaki from Usagiya is consistently delicious!

The "dorayaki" at Usagiya has a taste filled with the weight of history that becomes addictive. The shop is closed on Saturdays, and Fridays may also be closed depending on the week, so be careful. If you plan to buy in bulk, it's recommended to call ahead and make a reservation.

Dorayaki. The outside is moist and slightly wet, giving off a soft impression. The sweetness of the outer layer is mild. The red bean paste filling is not overly sweet, but it complements the mild sweetness of the outer layer perfectly. The combination of the inside and outside is great! Apparently, the taste of dorayaki varies from store to store at Usagiya. Compared to other stores, it seems to have a less sweet taste, but I would like to try a side-by-side taste comparison with other stores.

Only a 2-minute walk from JR Asagaya Station. There are table seats inside the shop where you can also eat on the spot. I bought "rabbit manju" for takeout. Not only cute in appearance, but also just right in sweetness, it was very delicious.

Usagiya has several locations in Tokyo, and they all offer top-level delicious dorayaki. Among them, Asagaya is my favorite. The red bean paste feels softer compared to other shops. The taste is amazing, but what I love the most is the way they wrap the dorayaki as a souvenir. The staff may say it's simple, but they always wrap it with great care. It's another moment of joy.

Dorayaki for 240 yen and Hotaru (summer confectionery) for 320 yen. The dorayaki has a fluffy skin with a hint of honey aroma, and a gentle sweetness. The filling is a firm and well-textured red bean paste, bringing out the natural sweetness of the azuki beans in a light and elegant way. Compared to the dorayaki from another branch, the texture and flavor are completely different. The skin here is subtly flavored and light, with a standard chewiness. The generously packed red bean paste is firm with a good texture. Perhaps, the defining characteristics are more noticeable here. The "Hotaru" is a seasonal confectionery inspired by fireflies dancing in the summer grass. Made mainly with white and black bean paste, this sweet has a mild sweetness and a very light flavor. The smooth red bean paste is fine-grained but not fluffy, with a bit of weightiness. In other words, it offers a different taste profile from the mainstream, showcasing its own light and elegant sensibility.

¥250 for a Dorayaki? I don't eat Dorayaki often, so I'm not sure if this is amazing or not, but the service was good. However, having four stores at the Tokyo Sweets Top 100 list for Usagiya might be a bit too much, haha.

"Visited Asagaya with the purpose of trying out the best Chinese cuisine in town. Happened to come across this store on the way, which I had been eyeing for a while. I have previously been to the famous 'Usagiya' in Nihonbashi for their dorayaki, so I had high expectations for this place as well. Visited on a Sunday around 12:05 pm and luckily, there were still dorayaki available. I had them the next day and they were amazing. The texture of the cake was moist, probably due to refrigeration. Just like at Usagiya, the cake alone was delicious! The sweet red bean paste had a nice chunky texture and was perfectly sweetened. Overall, it was a delightful treat."

I think this is a branch of Usagiya, a delicious traditional Japanese sweets shop in Ueno and Okachimachi. It's such a great pleasure to be able to walk to a place with such tasty treats. Usagiya's dorayaki is considered one of the top three dorayaki in Japan. Similar to the dorayaki from Tokiya the other day, they proudly use egg in the skin. The red bean paste is moist and delicious, which is another characteristic. This is definitely one of the top three dorayaki in Japan!

I had the dorayaki from Usagiya-san after dinner. I didn't know about this shop, but it turns out it's one of the top 100 on Tabelog (a restaurant review website). The dorayaki looked delicious with red bean paste packed inside. It was fluffy and moist, really tasty! I'd like to go buy more next time. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this traditional Japanese sweets shop on a solo outing during my day off. Located just a 2-minute walk from Asagaya Station, this shop is situated in a shopping street lined with old-fashioned stores. Their specialty is dorayaki, and this sweets shop named Sweets Hyakumeiten has branches in Ueno and Nihonbashi, which are related in some way. On a certain Sunday afternoon around 2 pm, there were only 3 customers inside the shop. Since there were no dorayaki displayed at the storefront, I timidly asked the cute shop assistant if they were sold out. She cheerfully replied, "We have some in stock!" and I eagerly ordered three. As other reviewers have noted, there seem to be many staff members, but it takes some time to wrap the items. During that time, a steady stream of customers arrived, quickly forming a line. Truly a popular shop! After waiting for about 7-8 minutes, I finally made my purchase. I enjoyed the dorayaki the next evening. The soft and slightly honey-scented skin had a gentle sweetness. The filling was a well-textured red bean paste with a subtly refined taste, showcasing the natural sweetness of the red beans. Although I had sampled dorayaki from the same shop in Nihonbashi, the texture and flavor of this one were completely different, and personally, I preferred the one from this shop the most. I look forward to visiting again soon. Thank you for the delicious treat. I will be back.

I lined up to buy dorayaki from the morning. There was a rude customer who cut in line which bothered me, but the staff was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. I ended up purchasing dorayaki, mitarashi, and rabbit-shaped steamed buns. The mitarashi was delicious, with a chewy texture and a good amount of volume. The sauce was not too sweet, which I liked. The dorayaki had a completely different texture to it. It was very chewy and the sweet bean paste had just the right amount of sweetness. I noticed that the dorayaki had the calorie information per 100 grams printed on the package which I wish I hadn't seen. The rabbit-shaped steamed buns had a generous amount of smooth bean paste inside. The mitarashi was surprisingly delicious. I'm curious about trying other dishes from this place. Thank you for the meal.

I found a shop called "Usagiya" in Asagaya and decided to visit. The shop opened at 9 am, which was perfect timing as I had just woken up at the hotel. When I arrived at exactly 9 am, I was surprised to see a line already formed, but it was easy to locate the shop. There were already about 10 groups of customers ahead of me, all purchasing quite a bit. I bought the famous "dorayaki" and "rabbit-shaped manju" for each member of my family, and impulsively added a skewer of anko and mitarashi dango. These were purchased as souvenirs for Osaka. The dorayaki had plenty of sweet bean paste on a moist pancake, not too sweet, perfect for green tea. The rabbit-shaped manju also had delicious ample bean paste inside, and the cute appearance added charm. The dango had a delicious mitarashi sauce on slightly crispy grilled rice dumplings. Overall, this shop has elegant and delicious traditional Japanese sweets.

This famous wagashi (Japanese sweets) shop always sells out by evening. Their dorayaki, in particular, is very popular. Fortunately, I was able to buy 4 dorayaki as there was only one customer ahead of me on that day. After that, the dorayaki continued to sell without interruption. They were filled with plenty of red bean paste, had a sticky mochi-like texture, and were not too sweet, making them easy to eat.

Thursday, 32°C summer day, 11:45 am. Arrived at the famous manju shop where there were 6 people in line. Ordered a "Kanoko" manju for ¥200, a popular "Usagi-man" manju for ¥200, and a unique "Miso-man" manju for ¥190. They were not too sweet, soft, and had a refined taste. The manju were delicious.
