Let's go eat Monja! I was initially hesitant because I'm not a fan of Monja... but I do like Okonomiyaki (laughs). The Monja Street in Tsukishima is really filled with Monja restaurants. I quickly spotted the sign for "Monrou" which had a slightly stylish logo. We had made a reservation, so we were promptly seated at a counter table. The staff, a man and a woman, were energetic and seemed friendly. We ordered the "Tonpei-yaki" to start. They cooked it right in front of us, and that person worked really hard. Once we finished that, we ordered the "Mentaiko Cheese Monja with Baby Star Ramen" – ah, it's been a while since I heard that combination. Maybe 5 or 6 years. Once again, that staff member cooked it right in front of us. They made a little wall and poured in half, then poured in the other half once the first half started to cook. This way, the wall wouldn't collapse (according to the staff). When the edges started to burn, it was ready. We ate it with a small spatula, and oh, it was pretty good. It was tastier than I had imagined. I was on a roll. Next, we ordered the Okonomiyaki, a Mix Tempura. It had pork, octopus, and shrimp – the amount of ingredients was impressive. It was quite a portion, and the shrimp was plump, the octopus was cut into chunks. Even when it was cooked, it still had a satisfying texture. Once again, that staff member went around to all the tables, cooking up a storm! They worked really hard. The more we ate because it was delicious, the more we got into it. We also ordered the "Shirasu and Oba Fried Rice" as a final dish. I was a bit skeptical about having more carbs after consuming so much already, but it wasn't bad. I was so full that I couldn't even think about having something sweet. I still don't understand the connection between this restaurant and "Monrou", but seeing that it was consistently full, it seems quite popular. (I wonder if they'll start serving Omusoba too?)

Monja Street in Tsukishima is a clean monjayaki restaurant. Located closer to the first street despite being on the second street, it is very easy to find, just a 2.3-minute walk from Tsukishima Station. Opened in December 2020, the interior is relatively new and clean. The art of Marilyn Monroe inspired by the name of the restaurant and the fusion of Showa retro elements can be seen throughout. - Takopon Vinegar 880 yen - Chilled Tomato 550 yen - Dashimaki Tamago (rolled omelette) 680 yen - Mushroom Butter 880 yen - Scallop Butter 990 yen - Monro Special Monja 1980 yen - Anko Butter Roll 600 yen (with ice cream +150 yen) Visited with a friend during weekday snack time and ordered a slightly lighter portion than usual. (This amount may be just right for the average woman.) It is truly appreciated that they are open all day for those who always want to eat. Additionally, this restaurant typically cooks the monjayaki for you. There may be a wait during busy times, but on this day, we had a fun time chatting while they cooked for us smoothly. The Monro Special Monja was delicious! The base is the popular "Mentaiko Mochi Cheese," with crab, scallop, octopus, shrimp, and baby starfish, creating a seafood all-star lineup on the iron plate! To top it off, they generously add aged Gouda cheese for a luxurious touch. Within a minute, the cheese melts and the aroma becomes irresistible. The broth is rich, and unlike regular monjayaki where you may lose track of what you're eating, the large cuts of ingredients make each bite different and interesting! And you never get bored. Before we knew it, we had finished it all! The side dishes like the Dashimaki Tamago and Takopon Vinegar were also delicious. Next time, I want to go with multiple people and try various types of monjayaki.

I went to Tsukishima to have monjayaki for the first time in a while! The place I visited was "Tsukishima Monja Monro". It's a monjayaki restaurant that specializes in seafood. Located just a 2-minute walk from Tsukishima Station, right in the middle of Monja Street. We started with the Oyster Butter, which was creamy and rich in flavor. The Asparagus Butter had a crunchy texture that was enjoyable. Next, we had a sashimi platter with swordfish and tuna cheek meat, cooked quickly on the iron griddle for a luxurious taste comparison. The first monjayaki we tried was the "Monro Special Monja", which was a luxurious monjayaki with shrimp, crab, scallops, octopus, and plenty of spicy cod roe. After cooking the ingredients and creating a levee, we poured in the batter, topped it with cod roe, mixed it all together, and it was ready. It was full of seafood flavor and delicious. Then we tried the rare Squid Ink Monja. The squid ink sauce gave it a striking appearance, rich flavor, and a hint of white wine for a rich taste. It makes you want to drink wine! Lastly, we ordered the Monro Special Ten okonomiyaki, which was also loaded with seafood. Enjoyed with plenty of mayonnaise and sweet and savory sauce. Perfect for finishing off the meal. They offer a variety of monjayaki from classic to unique flavors, so you can enjoy trying different ones with your friends. They also have a wide selection of side dishes, so you can enjoy them with drinks as well. It was a delicious meal.

It's a lively monjayaki restaurant. Thanks to the hot iron plate in the middle of the table, it was really hot in the middle of summer! Despite the heat, I enjoyed the monjayaki. For the second dish, I got to make my own monjayaki, and I did my best to cook it. The taste was what I expected from monjayaki. Thank you for the meal.

"Monja Monro" offers delicious Crab Tomato Cream Monja. The acidity of the tomato and the richness of the crab are perfectly matched, and the cream sauce adds a smoothness. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lively, and we had a fun time with our family. Definitely a place we want to visit again.

I always wanted to try the authentic Monjayaki. Although there are Monjayaki restaurants in Okayama, if you come to Tokyo, you have to try Monjayaki in Tsukishima. I chose Monrou for my first stop at Tsukishima Monja Street. It was already past 2 pm, but the place was full, so I had to wait for about 15 minutes. I ordered the Monrou Special Monjayaki. It's like a mix in okonomiyaki. It had shrimp, octopus, scallops, crab, mentaiko, mochi, cheese, and Baby Star Ramen. Since I wasn't confident in making it myself, I asked the staff to cook it for me. They made it quickly, and it was ready in about 5 minutes. Time to eat! I scooped a small portion of Monjayaki onto a spatula. I thought it would taste like okonomiyaki sauce, but it was different from the Monjayaki I had in Okayama. It had a rich dashi flavor and was delicious. The combination of cheese, mentaiko, and the texture of Baby Star Ramen was really good. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't have beer with it, but Monjayaki definitely goes well with beer. Authentic Monjayaki is indeed delicious.

I decided to eat monjayaki from the day before, and headed to Tsukishima for a walk around lunchtime! It was a lively atmosphere on Monja Street on a Sunday, with new shops starting to open up! I arrived at the restaurant I was looking for, Monrou, and was able to be seated right away even though it was full! I was planning to order okonomiyaki as well, but the monjayaki menu was so appealing (´✪ω✪`) I ordered the rare shrimp cream monja (1180 yen) and the Monrou Special (1980 yen), along with some sour drinks ( ^^)/▽▽\(^^ ) カンパイ The cream monja was like a risotto or gratin, creamy at first and then slightly burnt and fragrant towards the end, surprisingly good (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ The Special was luxurious with a large amount of seafood and the perfect combination of mentaiko and cheese, the seafood flavors soaked into the monja and it was very delicious!

I suddenly felt like eating Monjayaki, so I made a reservation the day before! I was surprised to see them cook the egg right in front of me. Everything, including the dessert, was delicious! Ordered items: Egg roll, Mushroom butter, Tuna cheek teppanyaki, Monja special, Squid ink monja, An butter roll with ice cream.

I posted after a long time! I indulged in eating at Tsukishima Monja Street after a long time lol. By 6 pm, everywhere was full, so I walked around randomly and happened to be drawn in by a sign. Luckily, it seemed to be just vacant. The staff recommended squid ink monja, vongole monja, squid natto salad, etc. The first dish was a salad, and it was a big hit lol. The homemade anchovy dressing was so delicious that I almost asked if I could take some home lol. Vongole monja was my first time trying it among the monjas I've had, and it was surprisingly delicious! Just like the squid ink one, it had a rich flavor and a punch to it. There aren't many monja shops at this level. Since I'm from the area and have been eating monja for 15 years, I can say with confidence that this was really delicious monja! When you enter a random monja shop, the taste is thin, or it tastes like just flour, or it tastes cheap, but this one is really good. When I come to Tsukishima, I will definitely come back here lol.

I went with my grandmother! The shop was very beautiful and reservation was required. In addition to monjayaki, there were also various appetizers available. The main monjayaki was the most delicious I have ever had, and I would like to use this place again! Both my grandmother and I are satisfied. Thank you very much!

I visited the restaurant in the early evening and it was quite crowded, but I was able to get a table easily. The tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) came out quickly and it was delicious and fluffy. The special monja with seafood had a rich dashi flavor and was tasty. It was a bit pricey at 2000 yen, but the taste made it worth it. The squid ink monja was also delicious, but not as good as the one I had in Asakusa. The garlic flavor was quite strong, so if you like garlic, you might enjoy it. I would like to try other restaurants next time!

I went to a Monja-yaki restaurant that I had been curious about. I ordered the following: - Monrou Special Monja (1980 yen): Ingredients included mentaiko (spicy cod roe), mochi, cheese, shrimp, scallop, crab, octopus, and baby star. It was luxurious as befitting the restaurant's name. It had been a while since I had Monja, and I enjoyed making it while watching the instructions on my phone. It was surprisingly fun. It has a different deliciousness compared to okonomiyaki. - Negi! Negi! Negi! Shoga-ten (1380 yen): This was okonomiyaki with plenty of pickled ginger and green onions, giving it a refreshing taste. The pickled ginger stands out due to the mild flavors of mayonnaise and sauce. Adding octopus toppings might be good for adding a different texture. Miscellaneous: As the name suggests, there were Marilyn Monroe posters throughout the restaurant.

Tsukishima Monja Street "Monro" has a lot of monjayaki restaurants, so it's hard to decide where to go, but this place is really delicious! I started with the squid natto salad (anchovy dressing) and green onion kimchi. I was skeptical about natto and dressing, but when I mixed and ate it, it was really delicious! The cabbage with dressing and natto makes a great snack. They also have various seafood dishes like scallop yakisoba. This time, I ordered the ethnic monjayaki that I was curious about even before going to the restaurant. The combination of coriander in monjayaki is great! It has an ethnic twist, but the Japanese dashi is also flavorful and fragrant. The minced chicken in monjayaki goes well with coriander. It's nice that they cook it for you. Toppings like mentaiko, green chili, and Baby Star are available. It's fun to choose the toppings for monjayaki. The combination this time was really good! I liked that the base flavor wasn't too strong and could be adjusted with the condiments on the table. The green chili is quite spicy, so I added it little by little. I'm curious about the squid ink cheese monjayaki next time since it apparently has rice in it. If you're unsure about what to order at Tsukishima Monja, I highly recommend this place. They have both unique and traditional options available.

I went to a shop on Monja Street in Tsukishima. I was surprised at how expensive the parking lot around there is, 440 yen for 12 minutes. I decided to park a little further away next time. It was my first time at Monrou, but they taught me how to cook it, so I was able to enjoy it. The Monja with rice in it might be good for people who are gluten-free.

Monjayaki restaurant in Tsukishima. It is located about a 5-minute walk from Tsukishima Station, on Monja Street. I went on a Friday around 9:00 PM and it was just full. I waited for about 10 minutes and was able to enter. The name of the restaurant is "Monrou," and as the name suggests, there are several paintings of Marilyn Monroe inside. Perhaps the owner's favorite. Interestingly, this day happened to be Marilyn Monroe's death anniversary (8/4). It wasn't intentional though haha. Now, today I had the following: - Octopus Ponzu (880 yen): A light appetizer while waiting for the monjayaki. A refreshing dish. A bit pricey for the portion. - Monrou Special Monjayaki (1980 yen) - Squid Ink Cheese Monjayaki (1680 yen) I chose two types of monjayaki. First, the Monrou Special Monjayaki. I initially wanted the mentaiko mochi cheese, but since the special had mentaiko mochi cheese with plenty of seafood, I switched to that. It was packed with shrimp, scallops, crab, and octopus ✨ Grilling is self-service. As for the Squid Ink Cheese Monjayaki, it's quite common to see it in monjayaki restaurants now, so it's not that new anymore, but if you like squid ink, you should try it. This squid ink monjayaki has a strong garlic flavor. It's great if you like garlic, but be prepared for bad breath on the way home. They offer a variety of seafood for grilling, not just squid and oysters, but also tuna and swordfish, making it a seafood lover's paradise. It was quite delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I started my personal Instagram account. For questions or inquiries, please contact me via DM. I've been to various monjayaki restaurants in Tsukishima, but this one is delicious enough to recommend to others!! - Date: 7/27 (Friday) 19:00~ - Crowdedness: I went without a reservation and had to wait for 20 minutes as there was one group ahead of us. - Menu: - Dashimaki Tamago *recommended - Dashimaki Tamago made on a hot plate - Fluffy texture, even more delicious with added soy sauce - Bongole Tomato Monjayaki - Monjayaki with rice! Quite unique - Tasted like risotto and was delicious - Seafood Monjayaki *recommended - I recommend topping it with Baby Star noodles!! - Large shrimp and scallops, visually appealing - Well-seasoned and tasty (I find that bland monjayaki places are disappointing) - Plenty of vegetables, very satisfying - Okonomiyaki - Classic okonomiyaki taste, very delicious - Not too heavy with a strong wheat flavor - Yakisoba *recommended - The noodles were different from regular yakisoba noodles, and they were delicious - The sauce was not too strong, easy to eat Thank you for the meal!

I visited during happy hour. There were two groups of customers in the restaurant. The interior is decorated with many Marilyn Monroe pictures, as the name suggests. This time, I ordered the Moulton Special Monja and W Cheese Tempura. The Monja was surprisingly filling, even for two people. Then we had the W Cheese Tempura and it filled us up! The Monja had lots of ingredients and was very delicious. The Cheese Tempura was rich and satisfying. I also want to try the Clam Chowder Monja next time.

Monja Street is a monjayaki restaurant located on the first floor of a tower building in Niban-gai. The name "Monrou" is a play on words combining "monja" and "Marilyn Monroe". They offer unique menu items such as original monja and cream monja. The Squid Ink Cheese Monja for 1848 yen is a black monjayaki made with squid ink and rice, creating a fusion of risotto and monja. It starts with sautéed minced garlic in butter, adding a rich aroma. Then, natural cheese and plenty of aged Gouda cheese from Holland are added to finish it off. Marilyn Monroe was known to love cheese, just like this dish. The combination of squid ink, squid umami, and two types of cheese creates a flavorful and aromatic dish that pairs well with wine. The Clam Chowder for 1408 yen with an additional cheese topping for 330 yen is a white monjayaki with a creamy texture and enhanced flavor from two types of cheese. It is loaded with plenty of clams, with cabbage and corn adding a nice touch to keep it delicious until the last bite. The Pork Tempura for 1188 yen with a mochi topping for 220 yen is a classic Japanese-style okonomiyaki. The key to both monjayaki and okonomiyaki is the dashi broth, which is prepared a day in advance and takes a whole day to make. The rich flavor of the secret dashi broth truly shines through in every bite. The Squid and Natto Salad for 825 yen is a voluminous salad with plenty of squid. It pairs perfectly with anchovy dressing, providing a similar experience to bagna cauda. Squid and natto are indeed a great combination. The original monjayaki at this restaurant was born from a conversation between the owner, who lives in a downtown Tokyo neighborhood, and their friends about wanting to try new types of monjayaki. Their innovative recipes from a monjayaki lover's perspective offer a fresh and exciting dining experience.

This is a restaurant located on Monja Street 2nd Avenue in Tsukishima, Tokyo. I decided to try it out because the exterior looked nice and it had good reviews on Tabelog. The interior was quite clean and had table seating as well as raised tatami seating, although it wasn't very spacious overall. The menu had unique combinations and was mainly focused on seafood monjayaki. I chose the "Shirasu and Oba Monja," which seemed to have a refreshing combination of plenty of shirasu and the fresh taste of oba. The restaurant recommended adding plum topping, which I did. We had to cook it ourselves on the grill. There were plenty of ingredients, but there was a lot of cabbage. The cabbage was tough and hard to chop, even after attempting to chop it ourselves. The monja cooked quickly, and the refreshing taste of oba and the acidity of plum were delicious. The umami of the shirasu also stood out. The broth wasn't too strong. However, the cabbage seemed to overpower the dish, making it feel like a cabbage-centric dish rather than a monjayaki. While it wasn't bad as monjayaki, the choice of ingredients may have been a misstep. With many monjayaki restaurants nearby, it felt like this one lacked a distinct feature.

I visited Monrou in Tsukishima Monja Street! It was my second time visiting this restaurant, as I had a great experience last year. Despite the typhoon, the restaurant was full! It's a popular spot, especially on a Friday night, regardless of the weather. The name "Monrou" seems to come from Marilyn Monroe! The charm of Monrou lies in their special Monja and Okonomiyaki dishes. I ordered the Monrou Special Monja, which was loaded with mentaiko, cheese, crab, scallops, octopus, and shrimp. It was truly special and delicious. The Monrou Special Okonomiyaki was also amazing with seafood toppings and a hidden flavor of daikon. The clean interior of the restaurant contrasts with the traditional taste of the dishes, making it a unique experience. I also recommend trying the Bongole Monja, which is a clam and tomato sauce monja with rice, and the Arctic Wind Monja, a spicy dish reminiscent of a certain spicy tantanmen. The food was delicious, and the staff was friendly. If you're ever in Tsukishima and can't decide where to eat, definitely give Monrou a try!

Tsukishima is known for monjayaki! This time, four of us guys had a monja party! I used to prefer okonomiyaki over monja, but I fully experienced the charm of monja that night. Let me introduce you to it! ○ Restaurant Name: Tsukishima Monja Monro ○ Tabelog Rating: 3.36 (as of June 1, 2023) ○ 4 minutes walk from Tsukishima Station ○ Budget: ¥5,000 per person ○ Address: 1-22-1 Tsukishima, Chuo-ku, Tokyo ○ Instagram: @monja.monroe ○ Business Hours: 11:00-23:00 ○ Closed: Irregular ○ Credit cards accepted 【Crowdedness】We made a reservation for 8:30 pm on a Friday and it was fully booked! Booking was a good idea. Reservations might be necessary on weekends! 【Recommended for】Friends, colleagues, family, casual dates *They have table and tatami seating, and can accommodate groups. 【Orders】 ◆ Monro Special Monja: ¥2,178 ◆ Vongole Monja (Red): ¥1,628 ◆ Arctic Wind Monja: ¥1,628 + Cheese Topping: ¥330 ◆ Monja Special Heaven: ¥2,728 ◆ Mushroom Butter: ¥968 ◆ Chilled Tomato: ¥550 ◆ Homemade Negi Kimchi: ¥550 ◆ Octopus Ponzu: ¥968 ◆ Wiener: ¥550 ◆ Sauce Yakisoba: ¥1,078 【Special Points】 ① Delicious monja! We tried three different types of monja this time, and they were all incredibly delicious. Even if you're not confident in making monja, don't worry! They will cook it for you. ② Great cost performance! Despite ordering quite a lot of high-priced items for four guys, it was around ¥5,000 per person. This is an amazing cost performance! ③ Excellent service! The staff, both employees and part-timers, were polite and provided great service. We were able to enjoy conversations while having monja and okonomiyaki made for us. 【Overall】 Very satisfied!! Good cost performance, good service, and delicious taste. I don't have many opportunities to eat monja, but it was so delicious and made me happy. There are many monja restaurants in Tsukishima, but this is a place I highly recommend. Also, smoking is allowed for electronic cigarettes, which is great for e-cigarette users. Thank you for the meal!
