Although it wasn't a trip, I stayed overnight in Kyoto and searched for a place to drink near the hotel to make a reservation. I had kushikatsu, conger eel tempura, and harami skewers. The kushikatsu had a thin crust that was crispy, and everything was delicious. It said "no double dipping in the sauce" but they gave me a container to pour it out. The sauce was thicker, like tonkatsu sauce, not watery like typical kushikatsu places. The complimentary tofu appetizer was chewy and had a texture similar to silken tofu, it was delicious. I wanted to order a full-size portion if I wasn't already full. They even chased after me to give me a can of coffee on my way out. Thank you for the meal, I wish this restaurant was closer to my home.

I happened to pass by the shop and decided to dine in. It was convenient to order using the touch panel. The oden and tail stew were delicious, but the kushikatsu was a bit too oily. My stomach felt heavy the next day haha. Also, the tsukune was dry and not that great.

The atmosphere is like a traditional Japanese izakaya. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, and the service is great. Everything I ate was tasty. Surprisingly, they are open until 5 in the morning and it's always busy. It's a wonderful restaurant with fantastic food and service.

Attracted by the flashy appearance, I visited the restaurant after work on Sunday night around 9 pm, and the place was packed! We managed to get a table, but they had to turn away a few groups that came after us. It seems to be quite a popular spot. In addition to the main item, kushikatsu, they also have a variety of typical izakaya dishes. This time, we ordered the following items (some photos are not available): - Kushikatsu (skewers) ranging from 80 yen - Grilled ginnan (gingko nuts) for 500 yen - Chicken Karaage for 580 yen - Tail stew (medium) for 1000 yen The recommended dish, the tail stew, was piping hot and delicious. It went well with drinks. Everything was reasonably priced, the portion sizes were just right, and the taste was great! I could see why it was so busy. Thank you for the meal! ★

It's past 3:30 in the morning in Kyoto. With only an hour and a half left until the first train starts running, I visited a place called "Kushi to Teiru-ni Samasama Higashi Kujo Main Store." It's a local chain that I've never heard of before. Inside, there was a group of about five young men and women having a lively time. I quietly took a seat next to them and checked out the menu. I ordered a Mega Highball for 630 yen, assorted oden items for 130 yen each, and a vegetable appetizer for 150 yen. The friendly owner greeted us with a toast and provided a plate of vegetable sticks with unlimited mayo. The oden was served on skewers, and the taste was average. I also ordered a Chocolate Banana dessert, which turned out to be deep-fried bananas coated in chocolate sauce. The owner, who seemed to be popular with regular customers, engaged in friendly conversation with them. It was reminiscent of the late-night diners in the drama "Midnight Diner." After enjoying two Mega Highballs, it was time to head back to Kyoto Station. Goodbye.

Busy week is finally over. Feeling a bit thirsty so I'm going to have a beer before heading home. Kushi and Tail Stew, Sama Sama, Higashikujo Main Store located south of Kyoto Station at the intersection of Takeda Street and Kujo Street. First, beer. Cheers to a hard week. Potato salad. Good volume and tasty. 5 types of skewers. Quail, shrimp, onion, sausage. I forgot the last one. Beer and kushikatsu, it's obviously delicious. Most customers come in groups, but it's a great place for solo diners like me to enjoy a quick drink and meal without feeling out of place. Unlike Osaka, there are fewer places like this in Kyoto, so I'll definitely be coming back to enjoy it in the future.

During a business trip in December 2022, I couldn't return home due to work extending in Kyoto, so I had to stay overnight. Near my hotel, I searched for open restaurants and ended up here. Although other places showed up in the search, they were closed, so I went into this one. Probably because there were no other options, by the time I left around midnight, the place was almost full and bustling. They had a standard selection of drinks, and I had beer, shochu soda, and lemon sour. The braised beef tail, which was recommended, was delicious. We also ordered a platter of skewers and oden. The skewers were average, but the daikon in the oden was really good. The seasoning seemed to be in the Kansai style, with a fresh taste. We also ordered chicken cartilage and tomato salad. Our stomachs were satisfied. We spent a little over an hour there, had three drinks each, and the total came to 8,800 yen. I thought it was a bit pricey, but considering they were open late and the convenience, it seemed worth it.

I came to this restaurant because the one I was planning to go to was full. It seems like a chain restaurant, as there is one near my home, but this is my first time visiting this particular location. The atmosphere is slightly different at each restaurant. Here, they seem to focus on deep-fried skewers and oden, in addition to skewers. The menu is not overly extensive, and it seems to be focused on items that go well with alcohol. I started with a highball instead of beer. They offer a large size as well. I ordered a mixed skewer set. You can choose 5 or 10 skewers, or leave it up to the chef. I wonder what will come out? The appetizer was fresh vegetables - mainly cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, radishes, etc. Quite a large portion. They also brought out a bottle of mayonnaise for us to use as much as we like. The skewers were crispy with a fine batter and the oil used seemed clean. This is a restaurant that serves delicious fried food. So, we ordered some fried chicken and potato salad. It was just the right amount for two people. We also ordered oden as a treat since we don't usually have it. The fried chicken had a well-seasoned taste and I personally liked it. The potato fries were thin and piled high. We ended up having an extra drink as well. The restaurant is conveniently located near the subway and bus stops, so you can enjoy drinking until the last minute. Overall, it's a special place to visit.

I love oxtail stew, especially from this restaurant and Henkotsu in front of Kyoto Station. Every time I come back home, I can't help but revisit. The best part of oxtail is how much delicious meat you can conquer that is intertwined with the bones. This time, I was able to completely strip the meat from the bones, even the marrow. It was a great sense of accomplishment. I have attached a photo as proof. I had a draft beer and two large highball cocktails. I'm completely drunk.

While looking for an izakaya near my hotel, I was drawn to a sign that said "Tail Stew" and decided to go in. They had a wide variety of skewers and the tail stew was delicious. The seafood was also tasty, and if this place was near my home, I would come here every day! The manager was kind and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great. It's easy to drop in even if you're alone. I definitely want to come back when I visit Kyoto again! ❤️

On the way back to the hotel in 2016, we were talking about wanting to eat ramen, but there didn't seem to be any suitable shops nearby. So we ended up going to a place nearby and had the "Tail Stew" and "Tail Stew Udon" for our final meal. Looking at the photos, it seems we also had some pork skewers. There were five of us, so we ordered one "Extra Large Tail Stew" for 1350 yen and two "Tail Stew Udon" for 660 yen each. The "Extra Large Tail Stew" wasn't as large as we expected, and with the bones, the yield wasn't great. However, we really enjoyed the flavor. It reminded me of the taste of "Beef Noodles" made by an old lady near the guesthouse "Ooshiro" in Taiwan. Some people may find "Beef Noodles" to be "light" or "fishy," but the ones here were rich and delicious, like beef stew. Completely unrelated, but I just searched and found out that "Ooshiro" has changed to a different guesthouse now. It's a great place that stays open late into the night.

This is Sun, a kushikatsu restaurant located at the corner of Ooishibashi intersection. Every time I passed by in my car, I was intrigued by this place. The signboard with "Kushikatsu and Tail Stew" written on it really caught my attention! I always thought to myself that I have to visit this place someday, and finally, I got the chance to do so! The signboard looks even more impressive up close. But enough about that, let's head into the warm interior of the restaurant! The first floor only has counter seats, so we were led to the tatami room on the second floor. Here, we presented a printed coupon that included a drink, 3 pieces of kushikatsu, and tail stew (equivalent to 1710 yen) for only 1000 yen! It's a great deal to have both items from the signboard menu included. We each ordered our preferred drink. After a while, our drinks arrived along with some appetizers. Then, a staff member asked if they could lead a toast for us. Of course, we agreed! "Cheers to another day of hard work! Kanpai!" Sapporo Draft (480 yen), Medium Bottle (530 yen), Yokaiichi (380 yen), Kakuhai (430 yen), Tamano Hikari (660 yen) ※ Prices are regular prices. This energetic service really helped us forget about our tiredness and the cold weather! Next, the set of 3 kushikatsu pieces of various types was served. The pieces were small and bite-sized. Then, the other highlight from the menu, the "Tail Stew," arrived. It's said to be a legendary dish. Upon tasting it, I could tell that the tail was very tender and delicious. I've had tail soup and red wine stew before, but this was my first time trying this dish. Each of us also ordered other dishes that we wanted to try. After everyone was satisfied, it was time to call it a night. We spent quite a long time here... Upon paying the bill and leaving the restaurant, a staff member offered us canned coffee because it was cold outside. This was a nice gesture that helped us warm up. Thank you, we won't freeze on our way home now.

After watching soccer at a friend's house, I was about to take a taxi from around Oishi Bridge late at night when I suddenly noticed a sign that read "Legendary Tail Stew". Feeling a bit tipsy, I was drawn in by the idea of hitting a second spot, so I wandered into the restaurant. The interior was surprisingly bright and clean, with counter seats featuring cushions on beer crates instead of chairs. It was probably a deliberate cheap chic aesthetic, rather than due to lack of funds. I'm not sure what makes the "Legendary Tail Stew" legendary, but I decided to try it. The stew was tender and delicious, falling apart easily. It was more refreshing and softer than the oxtail stew I had at Hengotsu in front of Kyoto Station. It suited my taste. I quickly finished it off and ordered another beer, as well as some assorted skewers: lotus root, spicy konjac, beef harami, shiitake mushrooms, onions, and chicken with cheese. They were all crispy and tasty, exceeding my expectations. It would be nice to have a place like this near my home. It was a delightful izakaya. Next time, I'd like to try their oden and other dishes. And finally, it was a joy to have a glass of Kubota Senjyu sake at the end.

Located west of Oikebashi in Higashi-Kujo, Yosoyaso is a night-oriented restaurant that stays open until 5 am. It can be empty around meal times like 7 pm, but gets crowded around 2 am. Their main dishes are tail and kushikatsu, which I find to be cost-effective. The atmosphere inside is casual and you can easily drop in. It feels more like going out for drinks than having a meal. There's no specific menu recommendation, but it's a mysterious place that makes you want to go back. The downside is that the oil from the fryer is not good, so the smell of oil sticks to your clothes and body.

I go to this restaurant so often that I can almost call myself a regular. The first time I went, I was surprised, but now it's a given that the staff will greet me with a cheerful "Welcome back!" when I arrive. They lead the cheers when we toast, saying "Well done for another day!" The friendly staff always engage in lively conversations with my friends and me. The food is great, starting with the kushikatsu and including oden and other snacks that are perfect for drinking. And the braised tail is absolutely delicious. The prices are reasonable, making it a place where anyone can feel comfortable. As we leave, they see us off with a "Take care, see you next time!" Once you've been, you'll definitely want to come back again.
