"Mitsubachi" quietly standing in Ueno is a sweet shop that has been enchanting people for over 100 years with pride as a confectionery. This shop is also known as the birthplace of Kogane Ice, and continues to preserve its historic flavor. The exterior exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of old Japan. The light shining through the small window gently illuminates the interior. Upon entering, a nostalgic atmosphere pervades, and stepping inside, one may feel as if time is flowing slowly. The charm of "Mitsubachi" is so deep that it cannot be easily described. Here, I particularly enjoyed the "Anmitsu (¥750)". This is a dish unique to a shop that is the birthplace of Kogane Ice, loved by people of all ages. Anmitsu is a beautifully arranged dish. Fruits, shiratama (mochi-like rice cakes), and kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) are beautifully presented. The transparent ice elegantly spreads in the bowl, with azuki beans placed softly on top. The shiratama has a delightful chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of kuromitsu. With each bite, memories of the birth of Kogane Ice come to mind, allowing one to feel its history. The fresh fruits are refreshing even before tasting. The azuki beans have the perfect sweetness, spreading the flavor of the beans with each bite, creating a luxurious dish. The shiratama melts in the mouth with its chewy texture, allowing you to enjoy the harmony with the ice and azuki beans. "Mitsubachi" is a holy place for Kogane Ice enthusiasts. At this shop with over 100 years of history, taste the origin of Kogane Ice. After visiting Yushima Tenjin Shrine and strolling towards Ueno, I decided to stop by this shop. I was craving something sweet, so I entered without waiting. It was around 2:30 PM on a Saturday, but I was able to enter without waiting. This shop operates on a pre-payment system, so it's best to decide what to order before seating. I ordered the Cream Anmitsu for 800 yen and it was served promptly after about 5 minutes. It's a classic anmitsu with black syrup drizzled on top. The tartness of the apricot goes really well with the traditional sweetness. The red beans inside had a hint of saltiness, which was unique and delicious. After finishing my meal, I noticed a long line outside the shop, confirming its popularity. Thank you for the meal.

Today I visited a popular shop in Yushima that has been selected as one of the top 100 traditional Japanese sweets shops. This time, I bought their famous anmitsu to take home. The anmitsu costs 480 yen including tax and comes with individually wrapped agar agar to maintain freshness. It also includes black beans, apricot, cherries, sweet red bean paste, cowhide, and black syrup. The anmitsu has a refreshing taste with the clear flavor of agar agar and the rich sweetness of black syrup blending well together. Especially in this lingering summer heat, it goes down easily. Thank you for the meal! Next time, I would like to eat it in the shop. *Visit rating -> 3.71

I am more of a fan of spicy food, but for some reason, I crave anmitsu once or twice a year. I decided to try the famous Ogura ice cream at Mitsubachi, known as the birthplace of Ogura ice cream. The Ogura white bean paste anmitsu looked adorable. The black honey came separately, allowing you to pour as much as you like. The Ogura ice cream was not too sweet and had a gentle flavor, which I liked. First, I tried the ice cream with the white bean paste, agar jelly, and mochi without the black honey. The combination of flavors was delightful, with the salty beans providing a nice balance. After eating about a third of it, I added the black honey. It had a lovely aroma, making me feel happy. Although I usually try to limit my sugar intake, I indulged in the fruits, agar jelly, and beans before adding more black honey. It was great to be able to adjust the sweetness to my liking. I enjoyed every last bite. The shop has a long history, and the interior is quite shabby. The bare fluorescent lights were covered with plastic, and the tray for the anmitsu was a bit sticky. It added to the chaotic charm of the Yushima neighborhood, and I enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.

From shaved ice to Mitsubachi-san. It is a well-established store founded in 1909 and is very famous. It looks delicious as I often pass by, and I think I have used it a few times before haha. There is also a branch in Koishikawa. This time, I chose the azuki bean ice cream, which I had never tried before. Mitsubachi-san is also famous as the birthplace of azuki bean ice cream. The azuki bean ice cream has zero fat. There are special and regular sizes, with the same taste but different amounts. This time, I chose the regular size. It is served sandwiched in a monaka. I would prefer it to be sandwiched in paper haha. I was able to pay with PayPay. I purchased the azuki bean ice cream for 240 yen. I chose the regular size, which was sufficient. The ice cream has a chewy texture and is quite cold, making my teeth hurt haha. The azuki bean aroma is strong, and it has a good balance of sweetness, refreshing but not too light. It goes perfectly with the crispy and fragrant monaka. Well, for 240 yen, it's not bad. It left me with an impression of being neither expensive nor cheap. Thank you for the meal!

Visited the long-established Japanese confectionery shop and dessert shop "Amazake Mitsubachi Main Store", one of the top 100 stores, located a 2-minute walk from Yushima Station and established in 1910. Arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday and there was no wait. Was able to enter smoothly. Ordered the Ogura Ice Special for 320 yen. It was served shortly after and enjoyed it at the storefront. The Ogura ice has a light taste with zero milk fat content, but the flavor of the Ogura is good and delicious. This "Ogura Ice" is said to be the original and has been served since 1915. I was surprised to hear that it has a history of over 100 years. Enjoyed it until the end.

I was planning to have anmitsu or shaved ice inside the store, but unfortunately, it was full so I ended up having ice cream sandwich instead. There were two types of ice cream sandwich with more red bean paste, and I chose that one. It was a very refreshing ice cream. As written on the menu, it seems to have less milk fat. There are many traditional Japanese confectionery shops around here, and this one seems to be well-loved for a long time.

Famous for traditional Japanese sweets and sweets, the originator of Kokura ice cream. They open at 11:00 on Sundays, and I was the first customer. The women-only hall and retail area were a bit busy with one person handling the register. I chose the Kokura anmitsu with shiratama for 900 yen from the menu in the glass case. The original Kokura ice cream is not very sweet. It was refreshing without the honey, and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Their well-made website also had some mistakes with the opening time at 11:00.

I went to Yushima and visited the main store of Amazake-dokoro Mitsubachi. I wanted to take a rest inside the shop, but they were closing early so I couldn't dine in. I tried the Ogura Ice Cream Special, which is ice cream sandwiched between a crispy wafer filled with red bean paste. It's a Japanese-style ice cream that allows you to enjoy the aroma of red beans and the sweetness of the paste. Combining it with the wafer enhances the traditional Japanese flavor. Next time, I would like to enjoy their desserts inside the shop.

I bought souvenirs at the famous sweet shop Mitsubachi in Yushima! I got 2 each of their popular dishes: anmitsu, mitsumame, and red bean paste. I visited on a Sunday around 2 pm and there were about 5 people in line. When I joined the line, it quickly grew to about 10 people. It's no wonder this long-established shop is so popular! It was hot, and everyone seemed to be after their famous red bean ice cream, which was selling like hotcakes. I was tempted to get some ice cream too, but I had to catch a train back home right after, so I stuck to my original plan and skipped the ice cream. I'll have to try it next time. Back at my parents' house, I presented them with the anmitsu and other treats. It's so nice to enjoy the taste of this famous old shop even when far away. The anmitsu and mitsumame had plenty of agar jelly and a nice amount of red bean paste, with a mild sweetness that was just right. It was a comforting taste of the past. Thank you for the meal! Next time, I'd like to relax inside the shop and enjoy some red bean ice cream.

Walking from Yushima Station towards Ueno Hirokoji, you will find a sweet shop called Mitsubachi Honten. It has a traditional storefront with an ice cream showcase outside. I bought a small red bean ice cream sandwich for 240 yen. It was not too sweet or too hard, and I thought it was very delicious with good value for money. On Friday morning, around 11:30, when I passed by, there was no one there, so I bought a 480 yen sweet red bean soup and ate it right away at Ueno Park. It was fun to serve myself in a neatly divided container. There was a lot of black honey, which was a soothing treat on a hot afternoon. Thank you for the meal - I will definitely go again! ^ ^

This is a long-established sweet shop located a short walk from the lotus pond in Ueno Park to Yushima. I had the Ogura shiratama anmitsu. The kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) is almost unlimited for refills. The traditional Ogura anmitsu, made with red beans, was delicious and paired well with the shiratama. Note: The Ogura ice cream is said to be a specialty related to the author Mori Ogai.

On the way from Yushima to Ueno Hirokoji, there was a sweet shop from the list of top 100 shops. You can enjoy the sweets inside the shop, but you can also eat the ice cream while walking. To cool down from the heat of walking, I ordered two ice creams. I chose the flavors Ramune and Passion Fruit, and they were served on a wafer which made it easy to eat with my hands. Both ice creams were perfectly firm, so they didn't melt along the way, allowing me to finish them without getting my hands dirty.

I visited around 12:40 on Thursday, with 2 groups of 3 customers already there and 1 group of 2 customers after me. This place requires customers to pay first before moving to their seats. The White Tapioca Cream Anmitsu contains agar jelly, red beans, sweet bean paste, dried apricot, white tapioca balls, mochi, and vanilla ice cream. This anmitsu is nostalgic and delicious with all the ingredients. Truly deserving of being one of Tokyo's top 100 traditional Japanese sweets shops.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Yushima Station, Wagashi Cafe Amazake Mitsuhashi Honten is a traditional Japanese sweets shop with a history of over 100 years since its opening in 1910. In 2023, it was selected as one of the top 100 Japanese sweets and dessert shops in Tokyo. Even when the eat-in space is closed, they offer take-out options, including a variety of ice creams. I tried the Pastel Marble and Hojicha Monaka ice creams this time. Surprisingly, they offer not only traditional Japanese flavors like matcha and hojicha, but also Western flavors like vanilla, mango, peach, ramune, chocolate, and rum raisin. The combination of the slightly bitter and fragrant hojicha with the crispy Monaka was excellent, as well as the sweet and refreshing Pastel Marble. The shop is conveniently located between Yushima and Ueno Hirokoji, making it easy to find and visit. I highly recommend stopping by to try their delicious treats! Thank you for the meal!

This establishment exudes a traditional atmosphere and is located about a 5-minute walk from Ueno Station towards Yushima. I originally wanted to go to Tsuruse which is further ahead, but it was unexpectedly closed today... Instead, I tried their anmitsu. Priced at 480 yen, it felt quite hefty when I picked it up! The anmitsu contained agar jelly, sweet beans, rice cakes, apricot, cherries, and what seemed like sweet potatoes, all in generous portions. The rice cakes were incredibly delicious! The sweet bean paste was elegant and not too sweet. The agar jelly had a good texture without any unpleasant smell. If I were to be picky, I would prefer a bit more sweet bean paste since there was quite a lot of agar jelly. The accompanying black syrup was also delicious with a gentle sweetness. I imagine it would be even better if enjoyed in-store (*´ω`*). They also sell ice cream with unique flavors that caught my interest. I look forward to trying the ice cream or dining in next time. ♡

I visited the restaurant based on the good reviews on Tabelog. There were hardly any customers inside. I decided on my order by looking at the food samples outside the store, paid first, and then sat down. I tried the recommended shiratama anmitsu by the staff. Hmm... it wasn't that great. There wasn't any standout ingredient. The agar and beans were lukewarm, and the ice cream wasn't that tasty either. I think the anmitsu with soft serve ice cream from "Mihashi" nearby is better. Also, I wasn't too impressed with the staff's service, so I probably won't be coming back.

I visited in the early afternoon. It wasn't crowded as it was before tea time. The shiratama was soft and chewy, with a texture that I can't replicate at home. It was very delicious. It was hot, so I had shaved ice, but I would like to try the shiratama anmitsu next time. The variety of ice cream flavors was also appealing.
